Muhammadiyah Concludes Comprehensive Energy Audit of Jakarta Headquarters to Drive Sustainability and Institutional Efficiency

by Suro Senen
written by Suro Senen

JAKARTA — The Central Leadership (Pimpinan Pusat or PP) of Muhammadiyah has officially concluded a comprehensive energy audit of its primary administrative headquarters in Jakarta. The initiative, which commenced in early September 2026, marks a significant milestone in the organization’s ongoing commitment to ecological stewardship, operational cost optimization, and the institutionalization of a culture of resource conservation. The findings and strategic recommendations derived from the exhaustive assessment were formally presented during the Closing Meeting of the Energy Audit of the PP Muhammadiyah Jakarta Building, held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the organization’s capital headquarters.

The completion of this audit signifies more than a routine infrastructural review; it reflects a broader ideological alignment within Indonesia’s second-largest Islamic organization regarding environmental sustainability. By blending modern technological assessments with theological mandates on moderation and stewardship, Muhammadiyah continues to position itself as a progressive voice in contemporary ecological discourse. The data gathered from the audit will now serve as the foundational bedrock for formulating binding institutional policies aimed at reducing carbon footprints and maximizing energy efficiency across all organizational tiers.

Background and Strategic Context of the Audit

The genesis of the energy audit traces back to the issuance of official administrative directives by the central leadership, specifically the PP Muhammadiyah Circular Letter Number 5/EDR/I.0/B/2026, which formally mandates institutional efficiency and the cultivation of a lifestyle centered on resource conservation. In an era marked by escalating global climate challenges, economic volatility, and rising utility expenditures, religious institutions are increasingly recognizing their moral obligation to lead by example in sustainable resource management.

For decades, large institutional complexes, such as the headquarters of major religious and civil society organizations, have faced growing challenges regarding high energy consumption. Air conditioning systems, extensive lighting arrays, office machinery, and religious facilities operating throughout the week demand substantial power inputs. Recognizing these systemic vulnerabilities, the leadership of Muhammadiyah initiated the audit to transition from passive awareness to active, data-driven resource management.

The assessment was not limited to the primary administrative tower but encompassed the entire architectural footprint of the complex, prominently featuring the At-Tanwir Mosque. By incorporating a major house of worship into the audit, Muhammadiyah underscored the principle that spiritual spaces must equally embody the values of environmental cleanliness, efficiency, and sustainability. The integration of ecological responsibility into places of worship serves a powerful pedagogical function for the millions of congregants who visit the complex annually.

Chronology and Scope of the Assessment

The energy audit operation unfolded over a structured three-week period, adhering to rigorous engineering and environmental standards.

Early September 2026 marked the mobilization phase. A specialized team of auditors, environmental consultants, and facility managers deployed diagnostic tools across the Jakarta headquarters. The initial phase involved baseline data collection, mapping out historical electricity consumption patterns, and cataloging every energy-consuming asset within the compound.

Throughout the middle of September, the technical team conducted granular inspections. The evaluation parameters were comprehensive, focusing on primary energy drivers including electrical grid intake, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, illumination technology, the operational capacity of existing solar panel installations, and overall facility management protocols. Every corridor, office space, meeting hall, and congregational area within the At-Tanwir Mosque was subjected to thermodynamic and electrical load analyses.

By the third week of September, the data had been synthesized, revealing critical insights into the compound’s energy consumption profile. The culmination of this intensive process occurred on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, during the official Closing Meeting. At this gathering, the auditors presented their empirical findings, highlighting both operational efficiencies already in place and critical vulnerabilities requiring immediate remedial action.

Key Findings and Technical Recommendations

According to the diagnostic report presented at the closing meeting, the energy utilization across the PP Muhammadiyah Jakarta complex is categorized as moderately efficient. The facility benefits from modern architectural layouts and proactive baseline management; however, significant opportunities for optimization remain untapped. The inefficiencies identified were primarily linked to facility maintenance schedules, suboptimal operational settings of climate control systems, and behavioral patterns among building occupants.

To address these inefficiencies, the audit report outlined a series of actionable, evidence-based recommendations designed for immediate implementation:

  1. HVAC Optimization and Maintenance: Air conditioning units, which constitute one of the largest electrical loads in the complex, were found to suffer from diminished efficiency due to irregular servicing cycles. The audit recommended instituting a mandatory, periodic maintenance schedule for all cooling units. Furthermore, building users have been instructed to standardize thermostat settings between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius, striking a balance between human comfort and energy conservation.

  2. Illumination and Electrical Management: The assessment highlighted instances of unoccupied spaces retaining active lighting and electronic equipment. Recommendations included the transition to smart lighting sensors, the replacement of legacy bulbs with high-efficiency LED alternatives, and the enforcement of strict power-down protocols for non-essential office technology outside of standard working hours.

  3. Renewable Energy Integration: While the complex already features solar photovoltaic panels, the audit revealed that their output could be significantly optimized. Recommendations included cleaning the solar arrays more frequently to prevent particulate obstruction, inspecting inverter efficiency, and better integrating solar yields with the main grid distribution to offset peak-hour consumption.

  4. Financial and Consumption Tracking: Facility management has been urged to institute a rigorous monthly audit of utility bills. Rather than treating electricity invoices as static administrative expenses, the management team must analyze month-to-month fluctuations to immediately identify anomalous spikes in consumption and evaluate the tangible financial impacts of conservation measures.

The Theological and Economic Imperatives of Conservation

Addressing the gathered stakeholders during the closing meeting, PP Muhammadiyah Secretary M. Izzul Muslimin emphasized that the drive for energy efficiency transcends mere administrative bookkeeping. He articulated a profound theological dimension to resource conservation, grounding modern environmentalism in Islamic jurisprudence and ethical teachings.

"Conservation of energy brings benefits in both this world and the hereafter," Izzul stated during his keynote address. "In this worldly life, expenditures are kept under control, ensuring financial sustainability. In the hereafter, God willing, it carries divine reward because resource conservation and the avoidance of waste are explicitly enjoined in the Al-Qur’an."

This framing aligns with Muhammadiyah’s historical theological posture, which views human beings as khalifah (stewards) entrusted with the maintenance and protection of the Earth. Wastefulness (israf), explicitly condemned in Islamic scripture, is interpreted in contemporary contexts to include the inefficient consumption of fossil fuels, electricity, and water. By framing utility savings as both an economic necessity and a religious duty, the leadership aims to motivate employees, members, and the broader public through deeply internalized values rather than purely punitive compliance measures.

Institutionalizing Sustainability: Perspectives from Eco Bhinneka

Echoing the sentiments of the central leadership, Hening Parlan, Director of Eco Bhinneka—a prominent environmental initiative under the Muhammadiyah umbrella—stressed the absolute necessity of transitioning from theoretical planning to concrete, measurable action. Her remarks served as a cautionary reminder that institutional reports frequently gather dust unless backed by unwavering political will and cultural transformation.

"An energy audit must not be allowed to terminate merely as a static report," Hening asserted. "The findings must serve as the foundational catalyst for genuine policy shifts and tangible, real-world actions. Through this, we can observe what has changed, what consumption metrics have decreased, and we can credibly demonstrate our institutional consistency in manifesting a genuinely eco-friendly building."

Hening further emphasized that structural and technological upgrades alone are insufficient without a concurrent shift in human behavior. The most sophisticated solar panels and high-efficiency HVAC systems can be undermined by simple human negligence, such as leaving doors open while air conditioning units are running or failing to extinguish lights upon exiting a room. Consequently, the ongoing campaign places heavy emphasis on cultivating micro-habits among the personnel occupying the Jakarta headquarters. Simple behavioral adjustments—powering down workstations, turning off conference room lights, and minimizing standby power consumption—are viewed as essential components of a holistic organizational culture.

Broader Impacts and Implications for the Muhammadiyah Network

The successful conclusion of the energy audit at the Jakarta headquarters carries significant implications that extend far beyond a single administrative building. As one of Indonesia’s most influential civil society organizations, operating thousands of schools, universities, hospitals, and social welfare institutions nationwide, Muhammadiyah possesses a vast infrastructural footprint.

The methodologies, policy frameworks, and behavioral guidelines developed during the Jakarta headquarters audit are intended to serve as a scalable prototype. Once fully refined, these protocols can be cascaded downward across Muhammadiyah’s extensive national network. Universities such as Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, secondary educational institutions, and healthcare facilities managed by the organization could soon adopt similar energy audits, potentially yielding massive cumulative reductions in carbon emissions and operational expenditures on a national scale.

Furthermore, this initiative reinforces Muhammadiyah’s growing leadership in the field of religious environmentalism, often referred to as "Green Islam." In recent years, Islamic organizations globally have increasingly engaged with climate change mitigation, recognizing that faith communities possess unmatched mobilization capacities. By marrying rigorous scientific audits with traditional theological incentives, Muhammadiyah provides a compelling model for how civil society institutions in developing nations can actively contribute to national carbon reduction targets and sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Conclusion and Next Steps

The completion of the energy audit at the PP Muhammadiyah Jakarta building represents a pivotal juncture in the organization’s administrative and environmental evolution. By systematically evaluating its energy infrastructure, identifying critical areas for conservation, and reinforcing the religious and economic value of frugality, Muhammadiyah has established a benchmark for institutional sustainability in Indonesia.

As the organization moves into the implementation phase, the focus will shift toward executing the technical recommendations provided by the audit team, monitoring monthly utility metrics, and fostering enduring behavioral changes among building occupants. Ultimately, the success of this initiative will be measured not merely in kilowatt-hours saved or financial expenditures reduced, but in the institutionalization of a permanent culture of ecological mindfulness that resonates throughout the entire Muhammadiyah network.

Bolehkah Warga Mengambil Air Masjid Saat Kemarau?

by Lina Irawan
written by Lina Irawan

The persistent threat of climate change, manifested through prolonged drought seasons, has become an increasingly urgent humanitarian concern in many regions. As seasonal rainfall patterns shift and water tables recede, traditional sources such as private wells, municipal reservoirs, and local ponds are often the first to face depletion. In communities where water scarcity transitions into a crisis, the neighborhood mosque frequently emerges as a central hub for essential resources. Many mosques maintain independent water systems—ranging from deep-bored wells to large-capacity storage tanks—designed to serve the congregants. This disparity in water security between private households and communal religious institutions has raised a recurring, sensitive question: Under the principles of Islamic jurisprudence and social ethics, is it permissible for local residents to withdraw water from a mosque for domestic use during periods of severe drought?

The Socio-Economic Context of Water Scarcity

The phenomenon of drought is not merely an environmental challenge; it is a catalyst for social friction. Data from regional meteorological agencies often indicate that during El Niño or prolonged dry spells, the availability of groundwater in residential areas can drop by as much as 40% to 60%. As public utilities struggle to manage demand, the burden falls disproportionately on vulnerable households.

Historically, the management of water resources has been a cornerstone of Islamic governance. The Prophet Muhammad emphasized the collective nature of essential resources, notably in a hadith recorded by Abu Dawud, stating, "Muslims are partners in three things: pasture, water, and fire." This principle of communal sharing is foundational, yet scholars have long debated the application of this concept in the context of private or endowed property, such as a mosque. The central tension lies in balancing the charitable mandate of a mosque with the legal restrictions governing its endowment (waqf).

Jurisprudential Foundations and the Concept of Siqayah

In Islamic law, the status of mosque property is strictly defined as an endowment. This means that assets, including water facilities, are donated for specific purposes—primarily to facilitate acts of worship such as wudhu (ablution) and hygiene. However, the historical precedent of siqayah—the service of providing water to the thirsty—offers a more nuanced perspective.

Bolehkah Warga Mengambil Air Masjid Saat Kemarau?

During the pre-Islamic and early Islamic periods in Makkah, the siqayah was a highly regarded office. Al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib, the Prophet’s uncle, was responsible for ensuring that pilgrims had access to fresh water. This was not merely a logistical necessity but a moral imperative. As noted in Tafsir al-Manar, the concept of siqayah evolved to designate specific locations where water was provided to the public. The historical records of the Masjidil Haram show that these facilities were designed to alleviate the hardships of travelers and the needy, creating a precedent where the physical infrastructure of a sacred space served a vital social function.

The Role of Qarinah (Indications) in Decision Making

A critical question for modern mosque administrators is how to determine if water can be shared without violating the terms of the original endowment. According to the classic jurisprudential text Fathul Mu’in by Sheikh Zainuddin al-Malibari, the legality of using mosque resources often hinges on qarinah, or contextual indications.

If a mosque has traditionally allowed the community to access its water supply without objection from the local board or scholars, this established practice serves as a tacit authorization. In the absence of a formal prohibition, the community’s continued use of the water for drinking, cleaning, or domestic hygiene can be viewed as permissible under the assumption of implied consent for the greater good. However, this is not an absolute right; it is a conditional benefit that relies heavily on the surplus capacity of the mosque’s water system.

The Historical Crisis: The Year of Ramadah

To understand the gravity of water scarcity, one must look to the ‘Am ar-Ramadah (The Year of Ashes) during the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab. Occurring around 18 Hijriah, this period was marked by a severe drought that paralyzed the region. Historical accounts from Izzuddin Ibnu Atsir describe a situation so dire that wildlife retreated into human settlements and the scarcity of food and water led to mass famine.

While the ‘Am ar-Ramadah was a state-level crisis, it serves as an ethical template for community leadership. Umar ibn al-Khattab’s famous remark, "How can I be unconcerned about the welfare of my people if I do not experience what they experience?" underscores the responsibility of leadership to prioritize the survival of the community. While this does not grant individuals the right to claim mosque property as their own, it creates a moral expectation that institutions should act as hubs of relief during times of catastrophe.

Bolehkah Warga Mengambil Air Masjid Saat Kemarau?

Modern Implementation: Balancing Duty and Stewardship

In contemporary settings, the management of mosque water during droughts requires a proactive, transparent approach by the Board of Trustees (Takmir). Rather than leaving the issue to spontaneous, unregulated access, modern mosques are encouraged to adopt a "Managed Distribution Model."

  1. Capacity Assessment: Before opening access, the mosque administration must calculate the minimum water required for daily worship activities (ablution and cleaning). Any amount exceeding this is the potential "surplus" available for public distribution.
  2. Formal Policy Setting: Administrators should issue a clear, written policy regarding water distribution. This mitigates conflict and prevents the chaotic crowding of facilities.
  3. Community Engagement: By communicating the availability of water, the mosque strengthens its role as a pillar of the community, turning a potential point of conflict into a gesture of solidarity.
  4. Conservation Measures: The mosque can also play a pedagogical role by providing water while simultaneously educating the public on water-saving techniques, ensuring that the limited resource is not squandered.

Broader Implications for Social Cohesion

The debate over mosque water access is emblematic of a broader challenge: how to reconcile formal property laws with the immediate needs of a suffering population. The legalistic view, which emphasizes the sanctity of the endowment, is essential for preserving the mosque’s long-term utility. However, the ethical view, which emphasizes the duty to assist those in need, is essential for the mosque’s role as a moral leader in the community.

If a mosque strictly enforces its property rights to the detriment of its neighbors who are suffering from a lack of clean water, it may fulfill its legal obligations but fail its mission of social benevolence. Conversely, if a mosque distributes water without a plan, it may jeopardize its ability to host daily prayers. The most effective solution lies in the middle path: a structured, policy-driven distribution that treats water as a communal trust managed with transparency and compassion.

Conclusion: The Mosque as a Reservoir of Relief

As climate patterns continue to fluctuate, the frequency of such crises may increase. Mosque administrations are encouraged to view their water infrastructure as a potential community asset that can be activated during emergencies. By adopting a policy of "controlled benevolence"—where the needs of the mosque and the needs of the neighborhood are balanced through thoughtful regulation—the institution honors both the letter of the law and the spirit of Islamic charity.

Ultimately, the act of providing water during a drought is more than a technical logistical operation; it is an act of preserving life. By integrating sound management with the ethical principles of siqayah, mosques can ensure they remain not only houses of worship but also sanctuaries of hope and resilience for the communities they serve. When the community is in distress, the mosque’s response serves as a testament to its commitment to the collective welfare, embodying the timeless wisdom that true piety is found in the service of humanity.

National Sports Day in Indonesia: A Historical Journey from the First PON in Solo to Modern-Day Athletic Culture

by Layla Zulfa
written by Layla Zulfa

Jakarta (ANTARA) – National Sports Day, widely commemorated across the Indonesian archipelago every 9 September, stands as a testament to the nation’s enduring resilience, athletic evolution, and cultural integration of physical fitness. Officially recognized as Hari Olahraga Nasional (Haornas), this annual observance traces its profound roots back to the turbulent post-independence era, specifically to the staging of the inaugural National Sports Games (Pekan Olahraga Nasional or PON) in Solo, Central Java, in 1948. Over the decades, Haornas has transformed from a commemoration of diplomatic defiance through sports into a comprehensive national campaign aimed at fostering public health, driving the sports economy, and cementing physical activity as an indispensable pillar of the Indonesian identity.

The Historical Genesis: Defiance and Diplomacy at the 1948 Solo PON

To fully understand the significance of National Sports Day, one must examine the geopolitical and administrative constraints faced by the newly proclaimed Republic of Indonesia in the late 1940s. Having declared independence on 17 August 1945, the young republic was still locked in a fierce diplomatic and physical struggle to secure international recognition of its sovereignty. Amid these overwhelming odds, Indonesian sports leaders harbored fierce ambitions to project the nation onto the global stage, specifically by participating in the XIV Olympic Games held in London in 1948.

However, the international landscape posed formidable barriers. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and international sports federations did not yet formally recognize the newly formed Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOMITE OLAHRAGA NASIONAL INDONESIA / Persatuan Olahraga Republik Indonesia precursors), and the Indonesian passport was not universally accepted by foreign governments, including Great Britain. Denied direct entry to the London Olympics due to these administrative blockages and colonial-era diplomatic maneuvers, Indonesian nationalist leaders and sports pioneers refused to be sidelined.

Under the stewardship of figures like Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX and various domestic sports associations, Indonesia made a bold counter-move: if its athletes could not travel to the world stage, the world stage would be brought to Indonesia. This strategic vision materialized as the first-ever Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON I), held from 9 to 12 September 1948 in Solo, Central Java. Utilizing the historic Sriwedari Stadium, the games brought together athletes from across Java and various regions despite severe economic shortages, logistical nightmares, and military blockades imposed by colonial forces. The opening day of this historic event—9 September 1948—forever altered the trajectory of Indonesian athletics, laying the philosophical and chronological foundation for what would later become National Sports Day.

Institutionalization and the 1983 Presidential Decree

While the spirit of PON I immediately captured the imagination of the public, the formalization of 9 September as a dedicated national commemoration took nearly four decades to materialize. The transition from a historical milestone to an institutionalized national holiday occurred on 9 September 1983.

During a major national ceremony, then-President Soeharto officially proclaimed Hari Olahraga Nasional while inaugurating the extensive restoration and modernization of the legendary Sriwedari Stadium in Surakarta. This proclamation served a dual purpose: it honored the historical sacrifices of the 1948 generation and catalyzed a renewed government focus on mass sports participation and elite athlete development.

The mandate was further strengthened through legal frameworks. On 15 November 1985, the government enacted Presidential Decree (Keputusan Presiden or Keppres) Number 67 of 1985 concerning National Sports Day. This legal instrument officially designated 9 September as Haornas, mandating state institutions, educational facilities, and civic organizations to promote physical education, foster sports infrastructure, and encourage a healthy lifestyle among the citizenry. Since its formal inception, Haornas has evolved into an annual rallying point for reviewing national sports achievements and addressing systemic challenges within the domestic sports ecosystem.

Chronology of Key Milestones in Indonesian Sports History

To trace the lineage of National Sports Day and the broader progression of Indonesian athletics, several critical dates and milestones define the timeline:

  • 17 August 1945: Indonesia declares independence, setting the stage for the creation of independent national institutions, including sports federations.
  • 1948: Indonesian athletes face administrative and political exclusion from the XIV Olympic Games in London, prompting the conception of a domestic multi-sport event.
  • 9–12 September 1948: The inaugural Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON I) is successfully staged in Solo, Central Java, utilizing the Sriwedari Stadium as a symbol of national unity and sovereignty.
  • 9 September 1983: President Soeharto officially proclaims National Sports Day (Haornas) during the rededication of Sriwedari Stadium, institutionalizing the legacy of PON I.
  • 1985: Presidential Decree Number 67 of 1985 is enacted, providing the formal legal basis for the annual nationwide observance of Haornas every 9 September.
  • Modern Era (2025–2026): Haornas transitions into an integrated platform encompassing elite sports achievements, sport tourism initiatives, infrastructure development, and the burgeoning sports economy.

The Socio-Economic Implications of Modern Sports Development

In contemporary times, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has continually redefined the scope of Haornas, steering it beyond historical remembrance toward a forward-looking economic and public health strategy. Modern sporting frameworks in Indonesia increasingly recognize that athletics is no longer confined to the acquisition of medals or the glory of podium finishes; rather, it is a multi-dimensional sector that drives economic growth, fosters national discipline, and enhances public health metrics.

Recent policy statements from government officials emphasize that the development of sports infrastructure—such as proposed national training academies, regional sports centers, and specialized facilities like the projected Sumba Timur sport tourism hub or the Ancol coastal sports events—yields significant multiplier effects. Investments in sports facilities stimulate local economies, generate employment in hospitality and event management, and promote regional development through sport tourism.

Furthermore, public health analyses underscore the critical need for a cultural shift toward daily physical activity. In an era marked by sedentary lifestyles and rising non-communicable diseases, campaigns associated with Haornas serve as vital public health interventions. Encouraging families, schools, and corporate entities to integrate regular exercise into their routines helps reduce long-term healthcare burdens while building a resilient, energetic workforce.

Official Perspectives and Strategic Objectives

As Indonesia observes the 43rd anniversary of the formalization of Haornas in 2026, government leadership continues to stress the alignment of grassroots sports participation with elite international competitiveness. Kemenpora guidelines emphasize that National Sports Day is an embodiment of the national character—a reminder that the tenacity displayed by the 1948 athletes in Solo must mirror modern efforts to overcome financial, infrastructural, and administrative hurdles in sports training.

Recent budget allocations and strategic proposals, including multi-trillion-rupiah initiatives for comprehensive training academies and youth talent identification programs, reflect a maturing sports governance model. Policymakers recognize that sustainable success in international arenas—such as the Olympics, Asian Games, and SEA Games—requires systematic, science-based athlete development starting from early childhood education.

Conclusion: Building a Legacy of Health and Achievement

Hari Olahraga Nasional remains far more than a mere entry on the national calendar. It is a living bridge connecting the defiant spirit of Indonesia’s post-independence pioneers with the modern aspirations of a globally competitive nation. By honoring the legacy of the 1948 Solo PON, contemporary Indonesians are reminded that physical vitality, national unity, and collective discipline are foundational to the nation’s progress. As communities across the archipelago engage in athletic events, support national athletes, and embrace active lifestyles every 9 September, Haornas continues to propel Indonesia toward a healthier, more vibrant, and globally respected future.

BNN: Vape Legal Berpita Cukai Tidak Mengandung Narkoba

by Azzam Bilal Chamdy
written by Azzam Bilal Chamdy

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has officially clarified that liquid nicotine products, or vapes, currently circulating within the legal framework—specifically those bearing official excise stamps—do not contain illicit substances. This authoritative statement, delivered by the Head of the BNN Laboratory Center, Brigadier General Police Supiyanto, serves as a crucial point of distinction between the regulated industry and the clandestine market of illicit substances often marketed under the guise of vaping products.

This clarification arrives at a pivotal time when public health concerns regarding the misuse of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) have reached a heightened state of awareness. By distinguishing between legally manufactured, tax-compliant products and black-market alternatives, the BNN aims to alleviate consumer confusion while simultaneously intensifying its crackdown on the illicit distribution of narcotics disguised as vape liquids.

The Distinction Between Legal Compliance and Illicit Activity

In a professional discourse held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Brigadier General Supiyanto emphasized that the BNN’s laboratory findings have consistently shown that legitimate, excise-stamped products are devoid of narcotics. "It is a fact that we have never found narcotics in products that are sold legally," Supiyanto stated. This assertion underscores the efficacy of the current regulatory oversight involving the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, which monitors the production, importation, and distribution of vaping liquids.

The issue, according to BNN, lies almost exclusively within the underground economy. Products that bypass excise regulations, lack proper labeling, or are sold through non-reputable channels are the primary vectors for contamination. In these instances, criminal actors often spike liquid nicotine with synthetic cannabinoids or other prohibited substances to induce psychoactive effects, knowingly endangering public health.

Chronology of Regulatory Oversight and Industry Evolution

The vaping industry in Indonesia has undergone significant transformation over the past decade. Initially an unregulated niche market, the government moved to formalize the industry by introducing excise taxation in 2018. This move was intended to bring the industry under the scrutiny of state authorities, ensuring that manufacturers adhere to product safety standards and tax obligations.

Since the formalization of the industry, the narrative surrounding vapes has been polarized between their use as a smoking cessation tool and concerns regarding youth consumption and health risks.

  • 2018: The Indonesian government officially imposed a 57% excise tax on vape liquids, marking the beginning of formal regulatory oversight.
  • 2020-2022: A period of increased laboratory testing by the BNN and the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) to ensure that the chemical composition of e-liquids does not violate the Narcotics Law.
  • 2024: Heightened enforcement measures against online sales of "custom" or "home-brew" e-liquids that were found to contain prohibited additives.
  • 2026: The BNN reiterates its stance, emphasizing that the legal industry has successfully maintained its integrity regarding narcotics, while calling for continued vigilance against illicit imports and illegal manufacturing.

Data and Analytical Perspectives

The divergence between the legal market and the illicit market is supported by the regulatory architecture of Indonesia. Legal vape products are subject to stringent testing protocols mandated by the government, which include checks for heavy metals, diacetyl, and prohibited psychoactive compounds.

According to data from the industry associations, the number of businesses adhering to the excise system has grown steadily. This growth suggests that the majority of the market is trending toward compliance, as legitimate businesses recognize that the presence of illicit substances in their products would result in the immediate revocation of their operating licenses and severe criminal penalties.

Analytical experts note that the "black market" for vaping operates similarly to the illegal drug trade, often utilizing encrypted messaging platforms and anonymous online marketplaces to bypass law enforcement. Because these products lack an excise stamp, they are inherently untraceable, making it difficult for consumers to verify their origins or safety profiles. The BNN’s statement serves as a tool for public education: if a product does not possess the mandatory tax stamp, it should be considered inherently dangerous and potentially contaminated.

BNN: Vape Legal Berpita Cukai Tidak Mengandung Narkoba

Industry Response and Collaborative Governance

In response to the BNN’s announcement, associations representing the vape industry have expressed strong support for the agency’s findings. Industry leaders have long argued that the criminalization of vaping by association with narcotics is detrimental to legitimate businesses that operate within the law.

"We are committed to maintaining the integrity of our ecosystem," stated a representative from a leading national vape association. "By working alongside the BNN, the police, and the Customs and Excise office, we aim to eliminate the bad actors who taint the reputation of our industry by peddling illicit substances."

This collaborative approach involves:

  1. Enhanced Information Sharing: Creating a direct communication channel between industry stakeholders and the BNN to report suspicious products or distribution patterns.
  2. Public Education Campaigns: Distributing educational materials at retail points of sale that explain the importance of the excise stamp as a safety seal.
  3. Self-Regulation: Implementing internal codes of conduct that prohibit the sale of any substance not approved by health authorities.

Broader Health and Social Implications

The implications of this issue extend beyond simple law enforcement; they are fundamentally tied to public health policy. The BNN’s confirmation that legal products do not contain narcotics helps clarify the debate surrounding the health effects of vaping. While the nicotine content in vapes remains a matter of health policy regarding addiction, the confusion between nicotine and illicit narcotics has often skewed public perception.

By separating these two distinct categories—legal e-liquids and illicit drug-laced concoctions—the government can better focus its resources. Law enforcement can concentrate on the criminal elements responsible for the illegal manufacturing of narcotics, while health agencies can focus on the long-term impact of nicotine usage and youth prevention strategies.

Furthermore, the economic impact of the legal vape industry cannot be ignored. The excise tax revenue generated by the industry contributes significantly to the state budget. Ensuring that the legal market remains free from the stigma of narcotics is essential for the economic stability of the thousands of workers, retailers, and distributors employed by the sector.

Future Outlook and Enforcement Strategy

Moving forward, the BNN plans to sustain its intelligence-gathering operations to identify and dismantle clandestine laboratories. The strategy will focus on three key pillars:

  1. Surveillance: Increased monitoring of raw chemical imports to ensure that precursors used for illicit drug manufacturing are not diverted into the vape liquid supply chain.
  2. Community Engagement: Encouraging the public to report any products that appear suspicious, lack proper packaging, or are sold at unusually low prices, which are often indicators of illicit manufacturing.
  3. Inter-Agency Cooperation: Strengthening the memorandum of understanding between the BNN, the Ministry of Health, and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to ensure a unified front against illegal substances.

The BNN’s latest statement serves as a definitive boundary in the ongoing conversation about electronic cigarettes. It confirms that the regulated industry is operating within the legal parameters established by the state. However, it also acts as a stern warning: the threshold for criminal activity is clearly defined by the absence of legal compliance. Consumers are urged to exercise extreme caution, prioritize products that bear the official excise seal, and remain wary of any vaping products offered through non-standardized, illicit channels.

Ultimately, the goal is to foster an environment where the public can rely on official health and law enforcement data to make informed choices, while the state effectively neutralizes the criminal elements that pose a genuine threat to society. The BNN remains committed to this cause, signaling that the monitoring of the vape industry will remain a priority for the foreseeable future to ensure public safety is not compromised by the actions of a few illicit actors.

The landscape of leadership within the senior Indonesian national football team has undergone a strategic shift ahead of a major regional tournament. Borussia Monchengladbach defender Kevin Diks has officially been entrusted with the captain’s armband for the upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. Head coach John Herdman made the definitive announcement following the squad’s inaugural training session at the Madya Stadium in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

This leadership transition comes at a critical juncture for the Skuad Garuda as they put the final touches on their tactical preparations. Diks assumes the responsibility from regular skipper Jay Idzes, who is unfortunately sidelined due to a left thigh quadriceps muscle injury. Idzes sustained the setback while on club duty for Sassuolo during a high-intensity Serie A fixture against Italian giants Juventus.

The announcement sets a clear tone for Indonesia’s campaign as they gear up to face regional rivals in pursuit of continental prestige. With the tournament opener fast approaching, the team is tasked with adapting quickly to tactical adjustments enforced by both injuries and strategic squad rotation.

Chronology of Events and Squad Preparation

The timeline leading up to the official captaincy announcement highlights the fluid nature of international football management. Following the conclusion of domestic league fixtures across Europe and Asia, the Indonesian national team contingent gathered in Jakarta in mid-September 2026.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, head coach John Herdman led the team through their first official training session on the pitch at the Madya Stadium. The session was designed to evaluate physical conditions, integrate newly arrived overseas-based players, and establish tactical cohesion. It was directly following this rigorous workout that Herdman gathered the players to announce his leadership hierarchy for the tournament, naming Kevin Diks as the primary on-field leader.

Previously, Rizky Ridho had shouldered leadership responsibilities, wearing the armband during international friendly matches against Oman and Mozambik in June 2026. However, for the high-stakes environment of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, the coaching staff opted for the extensive international experience and maturity offered by the European-based Diks.

Bawa-bawa Jay Idzes, Pernyataan Berkelas Kevin Diks Usai Resmi Jadi Kapten Timnas Indonesia

The squad will continue their intensive preparations in Jakarta for two more days before stepping onto the pitch at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) on Friday, September 25, 2026, to face Singapore in their opening fixture.

The Weight of Experience: Kevin Diks’ Leadership Pedigree

Kevin Diks is no stranger to the heavy burdens of leadership. At 29 years of age, the versatile defender brings a wealth of high-level competitive experience to the Indonesian dressing room. Most notably, Diks served as a trusted leader and foundational pillar for Danish powerhouse FC Copenhagen between 2021 and 2025, where he frequently captained the side through domestic league campaigns and European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League.

This extensive background in high-pressure environments played a pivotal role in John Herdman’s decision to hand him the armband. Speaking to the media after the training session, Diks expressed both immense pride and a deep sense of responsibility regarding his new role.

"Ya, itu merupakan kehormatan besar bagi saya," Diks remarked, translating his thoughts into the reality of the team’s current situation. "Menurut saya, sebelumnya saya juga sudah banyak membantu tim dan jika Jay tidak berada di sini, saya berusaha untuk membantu lebih banyak lagi."

He acknowledged that losing a defensive anchor and leader like Jay Idzes is a significant blow to the squad’s overall dynamic. Nevertheless, Diks emphasized that such adversity demands an elevated sense of duty from the remaining members of the roster.

"Kami kehilangan Jay, tetapi tentu saja dia tidak berada di sini, jadi kami harus mengambil peran lebih besar. Sekarang saya dipilih sebagai kapten, jadi itu merupakan kehormatan besar bagi saya. Saya juga merasa bisa membantu tim pada masa mendatang," he added, outlining his commitment to steering the squad forward.

Reflecting on the physical state of the team, Diks noted that the transition back to international duty has been smooth, praising the high tempo set by the coaching staff during the opening workout in Jakarta.

Bawa-bawa Jay Idzes, Pernyataan Berkelas Kevin Diks Usai Resmi Jadi Kapten Timnas Indonesia

"Ya, bagus. Kami langsung menjalani sesi latihan yang intens dan bagus, dan menurut saya latihan hari ini berjalan dengan baik," concluded the Borussia Monchengladbach star.

Broader Tactical Implications and John Herdman’s Vision

The appointment of Kevin Diks as captain is merely one facet of a broader strategic evolution under head coach John Herdman. The Canadian tactician has consistently emphasized that the national team must view upcoming regional fixtures through a modern, professional lens, recently drawing clear distinctions between traditional regional formats and the newly structured FIFA ASEAN Cup.

Herdman’s philosophy for the tournament relies heavily on squad depth, tactical flexibility, and proactive player rotation. Managing a grueling schedule requires leaders who can maintain defensive discipline, communicate tactical shifts seamlessly on the pitch, and keep morale high within a diverse group of domestic and overseas-based professionals.

The absence of Jay Idzes forces a reshuffling of the defensive line, but Diks’ tactical versatility—capable of playing across multiple positions in the defensive third—provides Herdman with the tactical stability required at the back. Alongside emerging talents and experienced stalwarts, Diks must organize a backline that can withstand the offensive pressures posed by group-stage opponents.

As the countdown to the match against Singapore ticks away, the focus shifts entirely to execution. The leadership duo of John Herdman on the touchline and Kevin Diks on the pitch will be scrutinized closely by millions of passionate supporters eager to see the Skuad Garuda make a resounding statement in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.

Manchester United Targets Norwegian Wonderkid Gabriel Rajkovic Following Historic Eliteserien Breakthrough

by Dwi Wanna
written by Dwi Wanna

Manchester United has officially intensified its recruitment efforts in Scandinavia, identifying Valerenga’s rising star Gabriel Rajkovic as a primary target for the club’s future-focused youth development strategy. The 15-year-old attacking talent has become the subject of intense speculation across European football after shattering long-standing records in Norway’s top flight, the Eliteserien. This pursuit signals a strategic shift at Old Trafford, where the club is actively scouting high-potential teenagers to bolster their academy ranks as they navigate personnel changes in the senior squad, including the potential departure of JJ Gabriel.

The interest from the Premier League giants was confirmed following reports that Manchester United’s specialized Scandinavian scouting department attended a recent fixture between Valerenga and Fredrikstad, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate. The presence of high-level talent evaluators from England at such a match underscores the urgency with which United is monitoring Rajkovic’s trajectory, particularly as he is increasingly linked with several other elite clubs from Germany, Italy, and Spain.

A Rapid Rise to Professional Football

Gabriel Rajkovic’s ascent has been nothing short of meteoric. In the modern era of professional football, where development pathways are meticulously structured, Rajkovic has bypassed traditional timelines to compete against seasoned professionals. In March 2026, he etched his name into the annals of Norwegian football history by becoming the youngest player to ever grace the Eliteserien. Making his debut against Sandefjord at the tender age of 15 years and 20 days, Rajkovic drew comparisons to other Nordic prodigies who have successfully transitioned to the global stage.

His impact was not limited to mere appearances. Just months later, in a display of composure rarely seen in a player of his age, Rajkovic found the back of the net against Bodo/Glimt. Scoring at 15 years and 166 days, he became the youngest goalscorer in the history of Valerenga’s top-flight campaign. This milestone served as a formal introduction to the wider footballing world, proving that his technical proficiency and tactical awareness are advanced enough to handle the physical rigors of a top-tier league.

MU Incar Wonderkid Norwegia yang Pecahkan Rekor Erling Haaland

The Norwegian Blueprint: Following Haaland and Odegaard

The hype surrounding Rajkovic is heavily influenced by the success of his predecessors. The "Norwegian Golden Generation," spearheaded by Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, has shifted the perception of Nordic talent. Scouts now view Norway not merely as an exporter of sturdy, defensive-minded players, but as a hotbed for elite attacking creativity and clinical finishing.

Haaland, currently a global icon at Manchester City, and Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, have paved the way for players like Rajkovic to be taken seriously at a young age. Analysts note that Rajkovic shares traits with both players: the relentless work rate associated with Haaland’s early development and the visionary passing ability that has defined Odegaard’s career. Manchester United’s interest is, therefore, not just an impulsive reaction to his records, but a calculated bet that Rajkovic possesses the rare mental fortitude required to survive the immense pressure of playing at a major Premier League club.

Strategic Context: Rebuilding at Old Trafford

The pursuit of Rajkovic comes at a complex time for Manchester United. Under the management of Michael Carrick, the club has faced a series of challenges, including inconsistent results and mounting pressure from a fan base demanding a return to consistent success. The potential departure of JJ Gabriel, a player who has occupied a significant space in the club’s tactical framework, has forced the recruitment team to look toward long-term succession planning.

United’s scouting philosophy has increasingly leaned toward identifying "market-ready" youngsters who can integrate into the youth system before transitioning to the first team. By securing a player of Rajkovic’s potential early, the club aims to avoid the inflated transfer fees that typically follow a player’s breakout season in a major European league. The club is reportedly looking to replicate the successful youth-to-senior integration models employed by rivals such as Chelsea and Liverpool, where academy graduates serve as the backbone of the long-term project.

Technical Profile and Scouting Analysis

What makes Rajkovic a standout target? Professional scouts who have monitored his development highlight three core areas: spatial awareness, technical ball-striking, and psychological maturity. Unlike many teenagers who rely on raw athleticism, Rajkovic is noted for his ability to identify pockets of space between the defensive and midfield lines—a trait that is essential for success in the high-intensity Premier League.

MU Incar Wonderkid Norwegia yang Pecahkan Rekor Erling Haaland

Furthermore, his goal against Bodo/Glimt demonstrated an ability to remain calm under pressure. Faced with a high-pressing defensive line, Rajkovic utilized a quick touch to create a shooting angle, executing a finish that showed technical discipline. While he remains physically underdeveloped compared to professional defenders, his rapid processing speed allows him to circumvent physical mismatches.

The Challenges of Youth Recruitment

Acquiring a player of Rajkovic’s age is fraught with regulatory and developmental hurdles. FIFA and UEFA regulations concerning the transfer of minors are stringent, and Manchester United will need to navigate international transfer protocols that prevent the movement of players under the age of 16 without significant family relocation and specific licensing.

Beyond the legalities, there is the question of player development. History is littered with examples of "wonderkids" who moved to large clubs too early and saw their development stall due to a lack of competitive playing time. Manchester United’s management will likely need to propose a development plan that includes either a loan spell back at Valerenga or an immediate integration into the club’s Under-18 and Under-21 squads, ensuring a balanced progression.

Broader Implications for the Transfer Market

The race for Rajkovic reflects a broader trend in European football: the "democratization of scouting." With advanced data analytics, clubs can identify talent in leagues previously considered peripheral. The Eliteserien, once overlooked by the Premier League’s elite, is now a primary destination for scouts.

If Manchester United succeeds in signing Rajkovic, it would be a major coup for their academy director and recruitment staff. It would demonstrate that despite the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the senior team’s performance, the club’s scouting infrastructure remains robust and capable of competing for the world’s most sought-after young talents.

MU Incar Wonderkid Norwegia yang Pecahkan Rekor Erling Haaland

However, the competition is fierce. With several clubs in the Bundesliga—a league known for its exceptional integration of young talent—also monitoring the situation, United must act decisively. The coming months will likely see an escalation in contact between the clubs, with Valerenga expected to demand a significant fee, potentially involving performance-based add-ons and future sell-on clauses.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

As the 2026 season progresses, Gabriel Rajkovic will remain under the microscope. For Manchester United, the pursuit of the 15-year-old is more than just a transfer rumor; it is a statement of intent regarding the club’s future. Whether Rajkovic becomes the next Norwegian star to light up Old Trafford remains to be seen, but his record-breaking start has undeniably placed him in the highest tier of global youth prospects.

For now, the focus remains on his development at Valerenga. Fans in Norway are witnessing a generational talent, while the scouts at Carrington are waiting for the opportune moment to move. In a sport where millions are spent on established stars, the acquisition of a player like Rajkovic represents the quintessential "high-reward" gamble—a move that could define the next decade of Manchester United’s attacking identity. As the club faces pressures on the pitch, the promise of a player like Rajkovic offers a glimmer of long-term optimism for a fanbase eager to see the next generation of talent thrive in the iconic red shirt.

Siapa Elif Eralp Politikus Bersinar Keturunan Turki di Jerman yang Mengidolakan Zohran Mamdani

by Siti Muinah
written by Siti Muinah

The political landscape of Berlin underwent a seismic shift this past Sunday as voters delivered a historic mandate to Elif Eralp, a human rights activist of Turkish descent representing the socialist Die Linke (The Left) party. Securing 25.7% of the vote, Eralp has effectively positioned herself as the frontrunner to become the first-ever mayor of the city-state with a migrant background. This victory marks a significant departure from traditional political norms in Germany’s capital, signaling a growing appetite among the electorate for grassroots-oriented, progressive policies that prioritize socioeconomic equity over entrenched party-line politics.

The results represent a stunning turnaround for Die Linke. Just months ago, in the spring, the party was polling in the low teens, struggling to find a coherent voice amidst a fracturing national political climate. By more than doubling their support base in under three years, Eralp and her team have demonstrated that their platform—which focuses intensely on the granular, daily struggles of Berliners—has successfully transcended ideological boundaries to capture the spirit of a city grappling with rapid gentrification and economic anxiety.

A Chronology of a Grassroots Surge

The journey to this electoral breakthrough began in earnest late last year, when Eralp transitioned from a career in human rights law to a full-time pursuit of municipal office. Her campaign was characterized by a meticulous, door-to-door strategy that eschewed the top-down communication style favored by established centrist parties.

  • Early 2024: Eralp announces her candidacy, focusing her platform on housing affordability and environmental sustainability.
  • Spring 2024: Die Linke experiences a polling stagnation, prompting a shift in strategy toward aggressive, neighborhood-level engagement.
  • Summer 2024: Eralp explicitly draws parallels between her platform and the populist-progressive success of Zohran Mamdani in New York, focusing on the "kitchen-table" issues that affect working-class families.
  • October 2024: The campaign makes a concerted effort to enter areas traditionally dominated by the Alternative for Germany (AfD), challenging the anti-immigrant rhetoric of the far-right on its own turf.
  • November 2024: Election Day results confirm a 25.7% share, a historic high for the party in Berlin.

The Influence of the "Mamdani Model"

Central to Eralp’s political identity is her admiration for Zohran Mamdani, the New York politician whose recent successes in the United States have become a template for international progressive movements. During the campaign, Eralp frequently referenced Mamdani’s ability to build multi-ethnic coalitions that prioritize material outcomes.

"I hope that what was possible in Manhattan can be realized here in Berlin," Eralp stated in an interview with Anadolu Agency days before the polls opened. The comparison is not merely rhetorical; it is structural. Like Mamdani, Eralp has centered her platform on the "crisis of the everyday"—specifically the surge in rent prices, the degradation of public transportation infrastructure, and the persistent, unaddressed issues of urban sanitation.

By framing these issues as systemic failures rather than inevitable consequences of urban growth, Eralp has successfully created a "big tent" coalition. She has managed to attract not only the traditional socialist base but also younger, disillusioned voters and immigrant communities who have long felt marginalized by the mainstream political establishment.

Socioeconomic Policy and the Housing Crisis

At the core of Eralp’s mandate is an aggressive housing policy designed to counter the skyrocketing cost of living in Berlin. For years, the city has been the epicenter of a German housing crisis, with rent prices in some districts rising by over 50% in the last decade alone. Eralp’s proposed solutions are bold and have drawn both strong support from tenants’ unions and skepticism from real estate stakeholders.

Her platform includes:

  1. Rent Capping: Implementing strict, mandatory price ceilings for municipal-owned apartments.
  2. Anti-Gouging Task Force: The creation of a dedicated governmental agency tasked with auditing and punishing landlords who engage in illegal rent hikes.
  3. Public Re-acquisition: Reviving long-dormant plans to expropriate or purchase housing stock from massive private real estate conglomerates to bring them back under public control.

These policies are intended to address the displacement of long-term Berlin residents, a phenomenon that has fueled social unrest in neighborhoods like Kreuzberg and Neukölln. By promising to make Berlin "affordable for everyone," Eralp has turned housing into the defining litmus test for her potential administration.

Personal Background and Political Formation

Born in Munich in 1981, Elif Eralp’s personal history is emblematic of the post-migration experience in Germany. Her parents arrived in the country following the 1980 Turkish military coup, seeking stability and a new beginning. Her upbringing, spanning Dortmund and Hamburg before settling in Berlin 16 years ago, gave her a broad perspective on the integration challenges faced by migrant families in Germany.

Her path to politics was forged in the legal field. Having studied law, Eralp spent years documenting and litigating cases of discrimination. She has often spoken of her childhood, specifically the early 1990s, when Germany experienced a wave of far-right extremist violence targeting immigrant communities. These formative experiences instilled in her a commitment to "justice as a baseline for democracy," a phrase she repeated throughout her campaign.

Official Responses and Political Implications

The political establishment in Berlin has reacted with a mix of caution and alarm. While the Green Party and the Social Democrats (SPD) have acknowledged the legitimacy of her win, they remain wary of her proposed economic policies. A spokesperson for a leading business association in Berlin noted, "While we respect the democratic process, any move toward large-scale expropriation or severe market intervention could destabilize investor confidence in the capital."

Conversely, civil society organizations and labor unions have largely celebrated the outcome. The head of a major Berlin-based housing advocacy group described the result as "the first real opportunity in a generation to prioritize people over portfolios."

Broader Impact: The Changing Face of Germany

The implications of Eralp’s rise extend far beyond the borders of Berlin. Her success suggests that the traditional center-left is losing its grip on the electorate, and that voters are increasingly receptive to candidates who combine identity-based empathy with concrete, radical economic solutions.

Furthermore, her success challenges the narrative that the only viable alternative to the status quo in Germany is the rise of the far-right. By winning over voters in districts where the AfD had previously made inroads, Eralp has provided a blueprint for how progressive candidates can reclaim the narrative of "the people" from populist, anti-immigrant platforms.

As the city transitions into a new political era, the eyes of the European Union will be on Berlin. If Eralp can translate her campaign promises into legislative success, she may well provide a model for other European cities facing similar crises of housing, inequality, and social cohesion. For now, however, the immediate task is the formation of a governing coalition—a process that will test her ability to balance her radical platform with the pragmatic realities of municipal governance.

In her victory speech, Eralp remained steadfast in her message: "Together, we are changing Berlin." Whether that change will result in a more equitable capital or a period of protracted political friction remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that the era of political complacency in Berlin has come to an end.

Green SM Officially Launches Electric Motorcycle Ride-Hailing Service Green SM Bike in Jakarta With Flexible Rent-to-Own Schemes

by Siti Muinah
written by Siti Muinah

Jakarta has officially welcomed a new era of green urban mobility with the operational debut of Green SM Bike, an electric motorcycle-based ride-hailing service operated by the prominent Vietnamese transit company Green SM. Launched on September 16, 2026, the service marks a historic milestone for the company, establishing Indonesia as its very first international market outside of Vietnam to host its two-wheeled electric vehicle (EV) operations. Prior to this strategic expansion, Green SM had already established a notable foothold in the Indonesian transport sector through its electric taxi fleet. With the introduction of Green SM Bike, the company is bridging the gap between sustainable urban commuting and economic empowerment, offering local drivers accessible entry points into the burgeoning green economy through innovative vehicle financing and rental models.

Initial Rollout and Strategic Urban Coverage

The rollout of Green SM Bike commenced with targeted coverage across key economic and residential zones within the Indonesian capital. During the initial phase of operations, passengers and prospective driver-partners can access the service across designated areas in South Jakarta, West Jakarta, and Central Jakarta. By concentrating initial deployment within these high-density urban corridors, the company aims to optimize service reliability, refine its operational framework, and closely monitor fleet performance before pursuing broader metropolitan expansion.

At the heart of Green SM’s two-wheeled fleet are high-efficiency electric scooters manufactured by VinFast, a globally recognized automotive brand. The company has introduced two primary models for the Jakarta market: the VinFast Evo and the VinFast Feliz II. Both scooters have been specifically engineered to navigate the unique challenges of Southeast Asian megacities, offering agile maneuverability, zero tailpipe emissions, and low operational maintenance costs. To ensure uninterrupted service, Green SM has simultaneously broken ground on supporting infrastructure, progressively developing a comprehensive network of battery-charging and battery-swapping stations across its initial operational zones.

Driver Empowerment Through Flexible Financial Frameworks

Beyond passenger transit, Green SM has positioned its platform as an economic catalyst for Indonesian workers, introducing flexible vehicle acquisition and rental schemes designed to accommodate diverse financial capabilities. Recognizing the financial barriers traditionally associated with entering the ride-hailing sector, the company has implemented a structured rent-to-own program alongside conventional short-term rental agreements.

Under the rent-to-own model, driver-partners can utilize a VinFast electric motorcycle starting at a daily rate of Rp39,000. This scheme is structured as a two-year progressive program; upon successfully fulfilling the terms and completion periods outlined in the agreement, participating drivers are granted full ownership of the vehicle. Company projections indicate that dedicated drivers adhering to program guidelines have the potential to secure daily earnings of up to Rp160,000, combining regular fare completions with performance-based bonuses and promotional incentives.

For drivers who prefer flexibility without long-term ownership commitments, Green SM offers alternative short-term lease contracts spanning three, months, six months, or one year. These contracts require an initial security deposit of Rp150,000, after which drivers are equipped with a fully maintained VinFast scooter and access to the company’s digital booking ecosystem. To ease the transition for newly onboarded personnel, Green SM has incorporated specific transitional incentives, including baseline earning protections during the initial months of active operation, subject to program policies and performance standards.

Comprehensive Onboarding and Safety Standards

To maintain high service quality and regulatory compliance, Green SM has instituted a rigorous recruitment and training protocol for prospective driver-partners. Candidates wishing to join the Green SM Bike platform must satisfy strict administrative and professional requirements. Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 54 years and six months, possess an active Indonesian driving license for motorcycles (SIM C), and provide valid identification documents, including a national identity card (KTP), family card (KK), and a police clearance certificate (SKCK). Furthermore, applicants must own a compatible smartphone capable of running the navigation and dispatch applications seamlessly.

The selection process is entirely free of registration fees, though successful candidates who proceed to the vehicle handover stage are required to submit the standard Rp150,000 security deposit. Prior to hitting the streets of Jakarta, all approved drivers undergo mandatory training programs. These sessions cover crucial operational competencies, including advanced navigation techniques, customer service excellence, safe handling of electric vehicles, and adherence to local traffic regulations.

The emphasis on safety and professional development aligns closely with broader regulatory expectations in Indonesia. Following previous interactions with transport authorities and law enforcement agencies—such as collaborative engagements with the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) regarding safety protocols and driver training—Green SM has placed heightened importance on institutionalizing robust safety measures across both its four-wheeled and two-wheeled divisions.

Market Implications and the Future of Urban E-Mobility

The entry of Green SM Bike into the Jakarta market arrives at a pivotal juncture for Indonesia’s transportation sector, which is actively transitioning toward green energy and sustainable infrastructure. The Indonesian government has consistently signaled its commitment to accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles through fiscal incentives, regulatory frameworks, and infrastructure development. By introducing an affordable, tech-enabled, and eco-friendly transportation alternative, Green SM contributes directly to national carbon reduction targets while alleviating urban traffic congestion.

From an economic perspective, the rent-to-own and flexible leasing models lower the capital threshold for micro-entrepreneurs entering the gig economy. By providing the tools of trade—namely, reliable electric scooters and charging infrastructure—the company mitigates the financial risks traditionally borne by ride-hailing drivers, such as escalating fuel costs and high maintenance expenditures associated with internal combustion engine motorcycles.

Looking ahead, Green SM’s leadership has indicated that the Jakarta launch is merely the foundation for a broader national footprint. The company is evaluating potential expansion into other major Indonesian urban centers where sustainable public transport demand is on the rise. As the charging and battery-swapping infrastructure matures alongside the growing fleet of VinFast Evo and Feliz II scooters, Green SM Bike is poised to reshape consumer expectations of urban mobility, setting a new benchmark for corporate sustainability and driver-centric business models in Southeast Asia’s largest economy.

Toyota Confirms All-New Land Cruiser FJ to Launch in Indonesia by Late 2026 amid Strong Consumer Demand

by Pevita Pearce
written by Pevita Pearce

The automotive landscape in Indonesia is set to witness a significant addition to its off-road segment as Toyota officially prepares to introduce the All-New Land Cruiser FJ. This highly anticipated compact SUV, which bridges the gap between urban utility and rugged performance, is scheduled for a market debut in Indonesia by the end of 2026. Despite the considerable lead time before its official commercial release, the vehicle has already generated substantial market traction, with over 300 potential buyers having formally registered their interest through the nationwide Toyota dealer network.

The Land Cruiser FJ is designed to embody the core DNA of the legendary Land Cruiser lineage—renowned for its durability, reliability, and off-road prowess—while presenting it in a more compact and practical form factor. This strategic positioning aims to capture a wider demographic of consumers who require a vehicle capable of navigating both dense urban environments and challenging terrains. By introducing the FJ, Toyota effectively expands its premium SUV portfolio in Indonesia, which currently includes the flagship Land Cruiser 300 and the retro-modern Land Cruiser 250.

Strategic Market Positioning and Product Evolution

The evolution of the Land Cruiser brand has been a hallmark of Toyota’s global strategy, particularly over the last decade. While the Land Cruiser 300 serves as the pinnacle of luxury and performance, and the Land Cruiser 250 (often referred to as the Prado successor) emphasizes heritage design and off-road versatility, the upcoming Land Cruiser FJ occupies a unique niche. It is expected to leverage a more efficient powertrain architecture and a shorter wheelbase, making it more maneuverable and accessible for daily commuting, without sacrificing the vehicle’s inherent "go-anywhere" capability.

Land Cruiser FJ Meluncur Akhir 2026, Konsumen Sudah Antre

Industry analysts suggest that the introduction of the FJ is a calculated move to compete in the burgeoning compact rugged SUV market. As consumer preferences shift toward vehicles that offer a blend of lifestyle utility and aesthetic appeal, the FJ serves as a modern interpretation of the classic FJ40—a model that holds a nostalgic place in the hearts of automotive enthusiasts globally. By blending this retro-inspired design language with modern safety features, advanced infotainment, and Toyota’s latest TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, the company is positioning the FJ to be a volume driver in the premium SUV segment.

Understanding the Registration of Interest Process

The process of "registering interest" in the Indonesian automotive market serves as a precursor to the formal sales cycle. Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Bansar Maduma, clarified that the current activity among the 300-plus applicants is strictly an expression of interest.

"At this stage, we are observing a significant volume of inquiries from potential customers who wish to be among the first to own the vehicle when it eventually hits the showroom floor," Maduma stated during a recent media briefing. "It is important to emphasize that this phase of registration does not constitute a formal Surat Pemesanan Kendaraan (SPK), or a binding sales contract. Rather, it allows us to gauge market appetite and manage customer expectations as we approach the official launch window."

This pre-market strategy is common for high-demand vehicles, allowing manufacturers to optimize supply chain logistics and production allocations. By collecting data on consumer preferences early, Toyota can better understand which trim levels, color options, and accessory packages are likely to resonate most strongly with the Indonesian market.

Land Cruiser FJ Meluncur Akhir 2026, Konsumen Sudah Antre

Economic and Market Implications

The decision to launch the Land Cruiser FJ in Indonesia is supported by several macroeconomic factors. Indonesia remains one of Southeast Asia’s most robust automotive markets, characterized by a growing middle class with an increasing appetite for premium and specialized vehicles. The Land Cruiser nameplate itself holds significant equity in the region, often associated with status, longevity, and mechanical resilience.

From an economic perspective, the arrival of the FJ is expected to bolster the SUV segment’s growth. With the government’s ongoing push for infrastructure development across the archipelago, there is a consistent demand for vehicles that can withstand diverse road conditions. Furthermore, the inclusion of the FJ in the Indonesian lineup signals Toyota’s confidence in the local market’s ability to absorb premium-priced compact vehicles.

While pricing details remain under wraps, market observers anticipate that Toyota is conducting an extensive cost-benefit analysis. The challenge lies in balancing the premium nature of the Land Cruiser brand with the competitive pricing necessary to make the vehicle accessible as a "practical, daily-use" SUV. Toyota’s management has confirmed that research is ongoing to ensure that the final pricing structure aligns with the value proposition expected by local consumers.

A Chronology of the Land Cruiser Legacy

The Land Cruiser story began in 1951 with the Toyota Jeep BJ, which was developed to meet the demands of the Japanese police and forestry agencies. Over the next seven decades, the series evolved into a global symbol of automotive endurance. The introduction of the Land Cruiser FJ in 2026 will coincide with a period of transition for the automotive industry, as manufacturers pivot toward more efficient combustion engines and hybrid technologies.

Land Cruiser FJ Meluncur Akhir 2026, Konsumen Sudah Antre
  • 1951: The birth of the original Toyota Jeep BJ, the progenitor of the Land Cruiser series.
  • 1960s–1980s: The iconic 40-series (FJ40) cements the brand’s reputation for off-road dominance.
  • 2021: Global launch of the Land Cruiser 300 series, setting new standards for luxury off-roaders.
  • 2023: Introduction of the Land Cruiser 250 series, blending classic aesthetics with modern engineering.
  • 2026 (Late): Scheduled market entry of the All-New Land Cruiser FJ in Indonesia.

The addition of the FJ serves as a completion of the current "Land Cruiser trifecta," providing a cohesive range that addresses different consumer needs, from the luxury-focused 300 to the rugged, design-conscious 250, and now, the agile, compact FJ.

Future Outlook and Challenges

As the launch date approaches, several factors will influence the success of the Land Cruiser FJ. Firstly, the global supply chain, which has seen volatility in recent years, will need to be stable to ensure that the Indonesian market receives sufficient units. Secondly, the regulatory environment in Indonesia regarding emissions and vehicle taxation will play a pivotal role in determining the final powertrain options offered for the FJ.

Toyota’s ability to communicate the "practicality" of the vehicle will be key. While the Land Cruiser name is often associated with heavy-duty off-roading, the FJ must demonstrate that it is equally capable of navigating the urban congestion of Jakarta or the narrow roads of other Indonesian cities. If the initial interest of 300+ customers is any indicator, the brand equity of the Land Cruiser remains remarkably strong, suggesting that the launch will likely be one of the most significant automotive events in Indonesia for 2026.

Conclusion

The confirmation of the All-New Land Cruiser FJ for the Indonesian market represents a significant milestone in Toyota’s regional strategy. By expanding its iconic Land Cruiser family to include a compact, versatile option, Toyota is not only catering to existing brand loyalists but also attracting a new generation of buyers seeking a combination of heritage and modern utility. As the company continues its market research and prepares for the official 2026 launch, all eyes will remain on how this "compact giant" reshapes the competitive dynamics of the premium SUV segment in the years to come. With a strong foundation of consumer interest already established, the Land Cruiser FJ appears poised to become a staple of the Indonesian automotive scene.

Earl Charles Spencer Exposes British Royal Family Secrets and Reignites Tension with King Charles Through Revelations in New Memoir

by Nana
written by Nana

Nearly three decades after delivering a soaring, emotionally charged eulogy at the funeral of his late sister, Princess Diana, Earl Charles Spencer has once again thrust the British Royal Family into a storm of public controversy. In his newly published memoir, Spencer steps forward to expose what he terms the systemic coldness and institutional flaws of Britain’s most prominent institution. His revelations, however, have not only opened old wounds regarding the tragic life and death of the "People’s Princess" but have also delivered a profound emotional blow to her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

The publication of Spencer’s book has deeply fractured perceptions within the United Kingdom. While supporters view him as a protective uncle willing to challenge an archaic and unyielding establishment, critics and royal insiders argue that his decision to dredge up deeply painful decades-old memories amounts to an unprovoked assault on the monarchy. At the center of this controversy is an explosive claim regarding King Charles III’s immediate reaction to Diana’s tragic death in August 1997, a claim that Buckingham Palace has aggressively refuted, setting the stage for a bitter public war of words between an aristocratic family and the sovereign state.

The Anatomy of a Royal Feud: The 1997 Funeral Dispute

To understand the current volatility between Earl Spencer and King Charles, one must revisit the turbulent days following the fatal car crash in Paris that claimed the life of Princess Diana on August 31, 1997. At the time, the nation was submerged in an unprecedented wave of public grief, and the inner workings of the royal household were paralyzed by confusion over how to handle the state-adjacent funeral of a woman who was no longer officially an "HRH" (Her Royal Highness).

According to excerpts from Spencer’s new book, tensions reached a boiling point behind closed doors regarding the role of young Princes William and Harry—then aged 15 and 12, respectively—in the funeral procession. Spencer reportedly argued vehemently that Diana herself would never have wanted her young sons subjected to the grueling, highly publicized ordeal of walking behind her coffin through streets packed with millions of mourning citizens.

Spencer claims that this protective stance provoked a furious reaction from his former brother-in-law, then-Prince Charles. In a tense telephone conversation, Charles allegedly unleashed an outburst of heavy anger. Furthermore, Spencer alleges that the future monarch made a shockingly dismissive remark during the exchange, stating that the public would "soon forget about it"—referring to the overwhelming grief surrounding Diana’s passing. This specific assertion has become the flashpoint of the current literary scandal, serving as the primary catalyst for Buckingham Palace’s rare and pointed intervention.

Buckingham Palace Counterattacks and the Gaslighting Accusations

Buckingham Palace, operating under its traditional doctrine of rarely complaining and rarely explaining, made an exception in the face of Spencer’s severe allegations. In a strongly worded public statement, representatives for the crown suggested that Spencer’s memory of the events was profoundly warped by personal trauma. The palace statement implied that the raw, enduring pain of sibling grief had clouded the Earl’s judgment, effectively framing his narrative as an emotional distortion rather than objective historical fact.

This official pushback triggered an immediate and incandescent response from Charles Spencer. In interviews promoting his book, the Earl did not mince words, accusing the highest echelon of the British monarchy of engaging in "gaslighting"—a psychological manipulation technique designed to make an individual doubt their own perception of reality.

"It is not an everyday occurrence when you wake up and find yourself being gaslighted by the King," Spencer remarked in a pointed interview with the Mail on Sunday. This public accusation places the British media and constitutional observers in a difficult position. Commentators remain deeply divided: one faction questions the timing and motivation of Spencer’s disclosures, suggesting he is exploiting historical wounds for commercial or personal vindication, while another faction defends him as a truth-teller who values familial transparency far above the preservation of royal mystique.

Background and Lineage: Who Is Earl Charles Spencer?

To fully grasp the weight of Earl Spencer’s interventions in royal affairs, one must examine his deep-rooted pedigree within the British aristocracy. Born Charles Edward Maurice Spencer on May 20, 1964, in London, the 9th Earl Spencer belongs to a lineage that has been intertwined with the British monarchy for centuries. His familial relationship with the Windsor dynasty is not merely political; it is personal. The late Queen Elizabeth II served as his infant godmother, establishing a lifelong proximity to the crown.

The Spencer family seat is the magnificent Althorp estate, located in West Northamptonshire, approximately a two-and-a-half-hour drive north of London. Purchased by the Spencer family in 1508, the sprawling estate spans thousands of acres and serves as the ancestral burial site of Princess Diana, whose grave sits on an isolated island in the middle of an ornamental lake on the property.

Spencer’s educational path followed the quintessential trajectory of the British upper class. He attended Eton College, the elite boarding school situated near Windsor Castle that has educated generations of British prime ministers, royals, and aristocrats. Following his time at Eton, Spencer pursued higher education at Magdalen College, the University of Oxford, where he focused on modern history—a discipline that clearly influenced his later literary pursuits into family genealogies and monarchical histories.

A Career in Journalism and Literary Pursuits

Before stepping into the role of a controversial memoirist and custodian of the Spencer legacy, Charles Spencer forged a successful career in professional journalism. Moving away from the insulated world of the landed gentry, he carved out a niche in broadcast media during the 1980s and 1990s.

Notably, Spencer spent a decade working with the American television network NBC News, beginning in 1986 as a broadcast correspondent. This extensive experience in the fast-paced, high-stakes environment of international news gave him a sophisticated understanding of media mechanics, public relations, and narrative framing—skills that are visibly at play in his current public relations rollout against the royal apparatus.

In addition to his journalism career, Spencer is a prolific author. He has penned several critically acclaimed books, focusing primarily on historical non-fiction, family chronicles, and British political history, including studies on King Charles II and the intricate histories of his own ancestral line. His personal life has similarly attracted media scrutiny; he has been married four times and is the father of seven children—five daughters and two sons—from his unions.

The Bond Between Brother and Sister: Growing Up at Althorp

The intensity of Earl Spencer’s protectiveness toward Princess Diana stems from a childhood shared in the sprawling corridors and quiet gardens of Althorp House. Born less than three years apart, Charles and Diana formed a close, protective bond during their formative years. While their parents’ turbulent marriage and eventual high-profile divorce fractured the family dynamic, the siblings remained deeply tethered to one another through shared trauma and isolation.

During his famous 1997 funeral eulogy, Spencer famously pledged that he would actively shield William and Harry—whom he explicitly referred to as Diana’s "blood family"—from the suffocating pressures and intense public scrutiny that had driven their mother to moments of profound despair and tears. Nearly three decades later, critics of his new book argue that by dragging private family disputes and volatile phone calls back into the public arena, Spencer has inadvertently inflicted the very kind of emotional turbulence upon William and Harry that he once swore to prevent.

Implications and Broader Impact on the Modern Monarchy

The timing of Earl Spencer’s memoir could not be more delicate for the House of Windsor. King Charles III, currently undergoing cancer treatments while managing the daily burdens of statecraft, faces a monarchy already stretched thin by departures, scandals, and generational transitions. Prince William, now the Prince of Wales, and Prince Harry, residing in California, are caught in the crossfire of a renewed media storm that weaponizes their mother’s tragic legacy.

From a journalistic and analytical perspective, Spencer’s book highlights an ongoing friction between institutional self-preservation and individual truth-telling. The British monarchy relies heavily on a carefully curated mythology of stoicism, continuity, and dignity. When insiders—particularly those with noble titles and direct blood ties to the sovereign—shatter that illusion from the inside, the damage extends beyond mere gossip; it touches upon the very legitimacy of the institution’s emotional intelligence.

Whether Spencer’s revelations will permanently alter public perception of King Charles remains to be seen. However, the bitter exchange between the Earl and Buckingham Palace underscores a fundamental truth about Britain’s royal family: while centuries of tradition have allowed them to crown kings and rule nations, they remain chronically unable to escape the ghosts of their own past, nor the testimonies of those who knew them before the crowns were placed upon their heads.
