Harry dan Meghan Bisa Kembali Cabut dari Inggris gegara Hal Ini

by Nana Muazin
written by Nana Muazin

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex find themselves at a critical crossroads just weeks after establishing a residential base in the United Kingdom. Despite their attempts to reintegrate into British life, reports have surfaced indicating that the couple is contemplating a return to their residence in Montecito, California. At the heart of this potential departure lies a complex and intensifying dispute over the security protocols afforded to them by the British government, specifically regarding the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec).

The Security Impasse and Ravec’s Role

The primary friction point involves the Ravec committee, an independent body tasked with overseeing the security arrangements for members of the Royal Family and high-profile public figures. Since Harry and Meghan formally stepped back from their roles as working royals in 2020, their automatic entitlement to taxpayer-funded protection was revoked.

Prince Harry has been vocal about his contention that the current security climate in the United Kingdom poses a credible threat to his family. His legal challenges regarding this matter have been well-documented, with the Duke arguing that his status as a target for hostile actors necessitates specialized police protection, regardless of his non-working royal status. The Ravec committee is currently in the process of reviewing the level of protection required for the family, particularly now that the Duke, Duchess, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are living as permanent residents rather than transient visitors.

This assessment is expected to cover a wide spectrum of daily risks, including the logistical challenges of school runs and personal travel. The committee’s decision, which is anticipated to be finalized in October, serves as a make-or-break factor for the couple’s long-term residency plans. Should the committee decide against granting the level of security the Duke deems necessary, insiders suggest the couple may opt to abandon their British residence entirely.

Chronology of Recent Developments

The current situation is the culmination of several weeks of mounting tension regarding the family’s privacy and safety.

  • Early September 2026: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex transition into a permanent residential arrangement in the United Kingdom, attempting to establish a sense of normalcy for their children.
  • September 14, 2026: A significant security incident occurs during the school run for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. While the school had been vetted, the transit route proved to be an unforeseen vulnerability. The heavy traffic congestion rendered the security detail unable to maintain the necessary protocols, leading to an immediate withdrawal of the children from the institution after only two days of attendance.
  • September 19, 2026: Media reports, citing internal sources, confirm that the Sussexes are re-evaluating their UK residency based on the looming Ravec decision.

The incident on September 14 served as a catalyst for the current crisis. According to representatives for the couple, the decision to remove the children from the school was taken following urgent consultations with their security team. The primary issue was not the school facility itself, which had undergone rigorous safety vetting, but rather the practicalities of the commute, which proved impossible to secure effectively under current conditions.

Supporting Data and Context

The debate over the Sussexes’ security is not an isolated incident but a continuation of a legal saga that has spanned several years. Since the 2020 "Megxit" agreement, Prince Harry has maintained that his family is inherently at risk due to his background, his military service in Afghanistan, and his high-profile public identity.

Data regarding the costs of high-level protection for royals and dignitaries typically runs into the millions of pounds annually. The British government has historically maintained that protection is provided on a case-by-case basis and that the criteria are applied strictly to ensure consistency. However, critics of the current arrangement argue that the government’s refusal to grant the Duke’s requested level of security—even if he pays for it himself—creates a dangerous vacuum.

The legal battle has underscored a fundamental shift in the relationship between the Sussexes and the British establishment. When the couple relocated to California, they were effectively removed from the "Protected Person" list that applies to active royals. However, the Duke’s legal team has argued that the decision to strip them of this protection was made without proper consideration of the unique threat profile that remains attached to his position as a son of the King.

Official Responses and Public Statements

The response from the Sussexes’ camp has been measured, focusing on the welfare of their children rather than political grievances. Following the school incident, a spokesperson for the family issued a statement to Hello! magazine, noting that the decision to change schools was reached after exhaustive discussions regarding the "practical aspects of the current arrangements."

"Harry and Meghan remain deeply grateful to all the teachers and staff for the kindness, care, and efforts they have provided to their family," the statement read.

The Royal Household has remained largely silent on the matter, adhering to the tradition of not commenting on security arrangements. This silence, while standard protocol, has arguably exacerbated the speculation surrounding the Duke’s relationship with the institution.

Broader Implications: The "Permanent Resident" Dilemma

The situation highlights a broader dilemma regarding the status of non-working royals in the 21st century. As members of the Royal Family seek more autonomy and individual career paths, the traditional structures of state-funded support—such as security and logistical assistance—struggle to adapt.

If the Sussexes ultimately choose to return to the United States, it would signal a significant failure in the effort to maintain a bridge between the family and the United Kingdom. It would further cement their status as an American-based family, potentially distancing them further from the British public and the institution of the monarchy.

Furthermore, the implication for other public figures is noteworthy. If a high-ranking member of the Royal Family cannot be adequately protected while navigating daily life in London, it raises questions about the state of public safety for other high-profile individuals. The upcoming Ravec ruling will be scrutinized not just for its impact on Prince Harry and Meghan, but as a precedent for how the state defines "risk" in an era of heightened global instability and celebrity culture.

Analysis: What Lies Ahead

As October approaches, the decision-making process within Ravec will be subject to intense public and media scrutiny. The committee must balance the principle of public expenditure with the genuine security concerns raised by the Duke of Sussex.

Should the decision go against the couple, the narrative of "exile" will likely gain further traction in the media. However, if the committee adjusts its assessment, it could pave the way for a more stable, albeit limited, residency for the family in Britain.

For the Sussexes, the core issue remains the safety of their children. Their transition from private citizens to global figures with a unique royal heritage has made the simple act of schooling their children a matter of international concern. The next few weeks will prove pivotal in determining whether the United Kingdom remains a viable home for the couple, or if their future lies exclusively across the Atlantic.

In the absence of a formal statement from the couple regarding their long-term plans, the public is left to observe the logistical and legal developments as they unfold. The situation serves as a stark reminder that even for those born into the world’s most famous institution, the basic human need for security and personal peace remains a volatile and complex challenge.

Worcas Group Marks Nearly a Century of Multi-Industry Excellence with Grand Bali 2026 Gala Dinner

by Nila Kartika Wati
written by Nila Kartika Wati

DENPARAS — Amidst the tranquil and picturesque coastal backdrop of the Meru Sanur Bali Beach Convention, the Worcas Group officially hosted its highly anticipated Gala Dinner Worcas Group Bali 2026 on Thursday, September 17, 2026. The landmark gathering brought together executives, stakeholders, international partners, and esteemed employees from across the conglomerate’s diverse operational sectors. Designed to celebrate both corporate resilience and future ambitions, the evening unfolded under the evocative theme, The Journey to a Masterpiece: Together We Grow, Together We Create Excellence.

For an enterprise that traces its foundational roots back to 1935, the 2026 gala served as much more than a routine corporate celebration. It functioned as a strategic milestone, highlighting a legacy spanning nearly a century of adaptation, economic shifts, and commercial expansion. Over the decades, the entity has successfully transitioned from its historical origins into a modern, multi-sector conglomerate wielding considerable influence across Indonesia’s commercial landscape. Today, the group manages a robust portfolio spanning structural construction, specialized corporate legal services, premium chocolate manufacturing, world-renowned artisanal civet coffee (kopi luwak), extensive retail networks, and critical healthcare manufacturing, including medical-grade protective face masks.

Strategic Vision and Executive Leadership

The evening’s formal proceedings commenced with an address by Roysevelt, Director of the Worcas Group, who took to the podium to reflect upon the organization’s historical trajectory and the human capital driving its ongoing success. Addressing an audience of hundreds of corporate leaders and operational personnel, Roysevelt emphasized that the conglomerate’s survival and sustained growth through numerous economic cycles are directly tied to its corporate culture of unity and relentless innovation.

"I invite the entire extended family of the Worcas Group to continuously safeguard our spirit of togetherness, strengthen our strategic collaborations, and collectively forge even greater milestones," Roysevelt stated during his keynote address. He underscored that as the company looks toward the horizon, maintaining internal synergy remains the primary catalyst for navigating increasingly competitive global markets.

Throughout his remarks, the director paid tribute to the dedication of the workforce, noting that the diverse business verticals under the Worcas umbrella—though operating in entirely different economic sectors—share a unified DNA rooted in quality assurance, customer-centric value creation, and long-term sustainability.

Showcasing Indonesia’s Finest: The Rise of Worcas Kopi Premium

A central highlight of the Gala Dinner was the formal presentation and sensory showcase of Worcas Kopi Premium, a product line that occupies a prestigious niche within the group’s expansive food and beverage division. Positioned under the bold and ambitious tagline, The Most Expensive Coffee in the World, the brand aims to elevate authentic Indonesian coffee culture onto the global stage.

The presentation provided attendees, including international trade delegates and retail distributors, with an immersive experience regarding the meticulous production processes behind Indonesian civet coffee. By combining traditional harvesting methods with modern quality control protocols, Worcas Kopi Premium seeks to capture the discerning palates of international luxury consumers. Industry analysts note that the global demand for ethically sourced, ultra-premium specialty coffee has surged steadily over the past decade, creating lucrative entry points for heritage brands capable of guaranteeing authenticity and traceability.

Beyond its beverage offerings, the spotlight also shone on the group’s high-end chocolate production lines, further reinforcing the conglomerate’s strategy to capture higher-margin segments of the consumer goods market both domestically and internationally.

A Century of Evolution: The Historical Chronology of Worcas Group

Understanding the scale and significance of the Bali 2026 Gala Dinner requires examining the chronological evolution of the Worcas Group. Established initially in 1935 during the colonial era, the enterprise began as a modest trading operation before progressively scaling its domestic footprint.

During its early decades, the company primarily navigated the archipelago’s agricultural and commodity trades. However, recognizing the shifting demands of a developing Indonesia post-independence, the leadership initiated a series of strategic diversification programs.

By the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the group had formally structured its operations into distinct corporate pillars. The construction division expanded to handle large-scale infrastructural and commercial real estate projects, capitalizing on Indonesia’s rapid urbanization. Concurrently, the establishment of the specialized corporate law firm division provided crucial internal and external advisory capabilities, ensuring that the conglomerate’s expansive commercial maneuvers remained fully compliant with evolving national and international regulatory frameworks.

The post-2010 era marked a period of aggressive retail and consumer goods expansion. The group successfully integrated its luxury food commodities—most notably its premium kopi luwak and artisanal chocolates—into high-end retail networks across major Indonesian metropolitan areas. Furthermore, the global health crises of the early 2020s prompted a rapid pivot into the healthcare sector, with the establishment of dedicated manufacturing facilities for medical equipment and protective face masks, demonstrating the group’s agility in responding to macroeconomic emergencies.

Diversified Portfolio: An Analysis of the Conglomerate’s Business Verticals

The multi-sector business model engineered by the Worcas Group offers a fascinating study in corporate risk mitigation and cross-industry synergy. By operating simultaneously in counter-cyclical and high-growth sectors, the conglomerate has built a resilient financial buffer capable of weathering localized market downturns.

  1. Construction and Infrastructure: Acting as a foundational pillar of the group’s asset base, the construction sector capitalizes on Indonesia’s sustained infrastructural development boom. The division focuses on commercial buildings, structural engineering, and public-private partnerships, leveraging decades of project management expertise.

  2. Corporate Legal Services: The inclusion of an in-house and affiliated law firm provides the group with a distinct competitive advantage. In an era of complex cross-border trade agreements and stringent domestic regulations, having specialized legal counsel embedded within the corporate ecosystem ensures rapid risk assessment and streamlined transactional execution.

  3. Premium Food and Beverage (Kopi Luwak and Chocolates): Operating in the luxury consumer goods market, this division targets high-net-worth individuals and international gourmands. By branding products like Worcas Kopi Premium under elite global positioning strategies, the group captures lucrative margins that offset the volume-dependent nature of traditional agricultural commodities.

  4. Retail Networks and Healthcare Products: The retail arm ensures direct-to-consumer market penetration, while the healthcare manufacturing division—specializing in medical supplies and protective gear—serves essential public health needs, aligning corporate profitability with national welfare objectives.

Economic Implications and Market Outlook

Financial analysts observing the trajectory of Indonesian conglomerates note that the strategic positioning displayed by the Worcas Group at the Bali 2026 event reflects a broader trend among legacy companies: the pivot toward global export readiness and premiumization.

As Indonesia consolidates its position as Southeast Asia’s largest economy, domestic enterprises are increasingly looking beyond national borders to sustain high growth rates. By leveraging events held in international tourism and business hubs like Bali, the Worcas Group effectively utilizes the island’s global visibility to court foreign investors, retail partners, and international distributors.

The emphasis on branding products such as Worcas Kopi Premium as world-class luxury items aligns with a growing global consumer preference for provenance, sustainability, and artisanal craftsmanship. If the conglomerate successfully executes its global retail expansion strategy, it could serve as a benchmark for how Indonesian heritage brands can successfully transition into international luxury markets without compromising their cultural roots.

Conclusion: Looking Toward the Future

As the Gala Dinner at The Meru Sanur Bali Beach Convention drew to a close, the prevailing sentiment among attendees was one of optimism and renewed purpose. The event successfully encapsulated nearly a century of institutional memory while charting a clear, ambitious course for the decades ahead.

Fueled by the foundational philosophy of Together We Grow, Together We Create Excellence, the Worcas Group stands poised at the intersection of tradition and modernity. With its diverse portfolio firing on all cylinders—from structural engineering and legal advisory to luxury agriculture and healthcare manufacturing—the conglomerate continues to solidify its standing as one of Indonesia’s most dynamic and enduring multi-business enterprises.

Rocky Gerung Warns Potential Political Crisis Over MK Lawsuit Concerning Gibran Rakabuming Rakas Education Credentials

by Nana Wu
written by Nana Wu

The constitutional and political landscape of Indonesia faces a momentous juncture as the Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi or MK) prepares to deliberate on a high-profile legal challenge regarding the educational credentials of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Prominent academic and political commentator Rocky Gerung has sounded the alarm, suggesting that should the court rule in favor of the petitioners in this Dispute over General Election Results (Perselisihan Hasil Pemilihan Umum or PHPU), the ruling could trigger an unprecedented systemic political crisis. The controversy centers on allegations regarding the authenticity of Gibran’s high school and university diplomas, a contentious issue that has steadily moved from the fringes of social media debate into the formal halls of the nation’s highest judicial institution.

The remarks were articulated during an appearance on the television program Rakyat Bersuara, broadcasted on iNews, under the theme "Hot Issues of Priority Programs." During the broadcast, Gerung elaborated on the potential domino effect that an adverse ruling by the Constitutional Court could unleash upon the incumbent administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. As the legal proceedings commence, legal experts, political analysts, and the broader public are closely monitoring how the judiciary will handle a case that intertwines legal technicalities with profound executive legitimacy questions.

Chronology and Legal Background of the Dispute

To understand the gravity of the current proceedings at the Constitutional Court, it is essential to examine the chronology of events leading up to this legal challenge. The controversy surrounding Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s academic background first surfaced during the fiercely contested 2024 Indonesian presidential election cycle. Critics and political opponents raised questions about the validity of his secondary education certificates obtained abroad and his subsequent enrollment in higher education institutions.

Despite initial dismissals by the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), which cleared Gibran to run alongside then-presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto based on verified administrative documents submitted during registration, the issue did not dissipate. Following the inauguration of the Prabowo-Gibran administration, various civil society groups, legal coalitions, and persistent critics continued to compile documentation to challenge the foundational validity of Gibran’s candidacy retroactively.

The legal battle escalated when formal petitions were lodged invoking the PHPU mechanism, arguing that an ineligible candidate should never have been certified, thereby invalidating the election results concerning the vice-presidency. The Constitutional Court, operating under its constitutional mandate to resolve disputes concerning election outcomes and constitutional rights violations, accepted the petition for procedural review. Legal analysts note that while PHPU petitions traditionally focus on vote tallies and electoral fraud, incorporating candidate eligibility and credential authenticity into the constitutional review creates a complex hybrid of administrative law and constitutional adjudication.

The Core Arguments and Institutional Implications

During his analysis on iNews, Rocky Gerung emphasized that the processing of the petition by the Constitutional Court represents a watershed moment that the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat or DPR) cannot afford to ignore. According to Gerung, if the judiciary finds merit in the allegations and issues a ruling that questions or nullifies Gibran’s credentials, the legislative branch will be forced to confront a constitutional vacuum and executive instability.

"Next week, the MK will begin processing Gibran’s fake diploma issue. That is going to be a huge scandal, the DPR must service that. What if the DPR says proceed, then Gibran falls, and then someone says don’t just stop at Gibran, Prabowo must fall too? There is no problem with that," Gerung stated during the broadcast.

This perspective highlights a critical vulnerability in coalition politics and constitutional architecture. While the petitioners specifically target Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s documentation rather than the legitimacy of President Prabowo Subianto, Gerung argued that the intertwined nature of a joint ticket creates a slippery slope. In a parliamentary and presidential hybrid system like Indonesia’s, the removal or disqualification of a sitting vice president through judicial decree would inevitably strain executive cohesion, test the loyalty of supporting political parties in the DPR, and provoke intense partisan realignment.

Official Responses and Counter-Perspectives

In response to the mounting legal challenges and public commentary, supporters of the administration and representatives of the ruling coalition have strongly pushed back against the narrative of an impending political crisis. Militant volunteer groups and legal defenders of the vice president have characterized the lawsuits as politically motivated maneuvers designed to delegitimize a democratically elected government.

For instance, groups such as Relawan Militan Gibran 08 Nusantara have previously voiced sharp criticisms against legal figures and activists spearheading these challenges, accusing them of attempting to orchestrate an unconstitutional ouster of the vice president outside the established electoral cycle. Representatives of these organizations argue that the KPU thoroughly vetted all candidate documents prior to the election, confirming compliance with the prevailing Election Law and relevant Constitutional Court regulations governing age limits and administrative prerequisites.

Furthermore, legal experts allied with the government maintain that the Constitutional Court lacks the jurisdiction to invalidate a candidate retroactively once the election has concluded, the results have been officially certified, and the inauguration has taken place. They contend that expanding the scope of PHPU to police educational credentials post-inauguration sets a dangerous precedent that could destabilize future transitions of power and undermine legal certainty in Indonesian elections.

Broader Impact and Economic-Political Analysis

The potential fallout of the Constitutional Court’s handling of the Gibran diploma case extends far beyond courtroom theatrics, carrying significant implications for Indonesia’s political stability and economic climate. Financial markets and foreign investors closely monitor the nation’s governance indicators for signs of stability and policy continuity. Any perception of an escalating constitutional crisis or executive paralysis can introduce market volatility, currency fluctuations, and a temporary slowdown in foreign direct investment inflows.

Political science analysts point out that Indonesia’s democracy has demonstrated remarkable resilience in absorbing post-election disputes through institutional channels. The willingness of petitioners to utilize the Constitutional Court reflects faith in judicial review, yet it also places an immense burden on the nine constitutional justices to render a decision that is legally airtight, politically neutral, and insulated from external pressures.

If the court dismisses the petition on procedural grounds or finds the accusations lacking in substantive evidence, the administration will likely claim total vindication, allowing President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran to refocus entirely on their domestic policy agenda, including food security programs, free nutritious meal initiatives, and downstream industrialization policies. Conversely, should the court accept the petition or demand further investigative steps, Indonesia could enter an uncharted constitutional territory characterized by heightened legislative scrutiny, intense partisan friction, and debates regarding succession protocols.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

As the Constitutional Court prepares to navigate this complex legal labyrinth, all eyes remain fixed on the judicial branch. The controversy surrounding Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s credentials serves as a stark reminder of the intricate relationship between electoral administration, judicial oversight, and executive stability in modern Indonesia. Whether this legal challenge culminates in a major political scandal as predicted by critics, or is peacefully resolved through established jurisprudence, the outcome will undoubtedly leave a lasting imprint on the nation’s constitutional jurisprudence and political trajectory for years to come.

Wali Kota Jakarta Selatan Syafrin Liputo menyerukan pengawasan ketat fasilitas publik menyusul vandalisme JPO Bulungan

by Nana Muazin
written by Nana Muazin

The integrity of public infrastructure in South Jakarta has come under intense scrutiny following the discovery of significant damage to the Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) in Bulungan, Kebayoran Baru. The incident, which involved the theft of several metal staircase plates, has not only compromised the structural safety of a vital transit point for commuters but has also ignited a broader debate regarding the security of urban facilities in the capital city.

Wali Kota Jakarta Selatan, Syafrin Liputo, has officially responded to the incident, urging local government agencies and the community to foster a culture of collective vigilance. The destruction, which authorities strongly suspect to be the result of deliberate vandalism and theft, has prompted an immediate directive for repairs and a strategic review of how the city protects its public assets from criminal interference.

Chronology of the Incident and Initial Response

The damage at the Bulungan JPO was identified earlier this week, sparking concerns among daily pedestrians who rely on the structure to cross the busy thoroughfares of Kebayoran Baru. The absence of metal plates on the staircases poses a direct physical hazard, with potential risks ranging from tripping accidents to structural instability if the theft continues unchecked.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Syafrin Liputo confirmed that his office has been in direct contact with the South Jakarta Bina Marga (Road Agency) sub-department. "We have coordinated with the relevant technical teams to ensure that repairs are executed immediately. Our primary objective is to restore the safety and convenience of the pedestrians who rely on this bridge for their daily mobility," Syafrin stated.

While the physical repairs are currently underway, the incident highlights a recurring pattern of infrastructure degradation in Jakarta. The Bina Marga office is now tasked not only with replacing the stolen components but also with evaluating whether the design of these structures can be reinforced to deter future theft.

The Rising Cost of Urban Vandalism

Vandalism of public infrastructure is a chronic issue that drains municipal budgets and disrupts urban logistics. In Jakarta, the theft of metal components—such as manhole covers, bridge railings, and staircase plates—is often driven by the black market value of scrap metal.

Data from the Jakarta Provincial Government indicates that the costs associated with repairing damage caused by vandalism run into the billions of rupiah annually. Beyond the financial impact, the loss of these components forces the government to divert resources that were otherwise earmarked for urban expansion or the maintenance of secondary roads.

This specific incident at the Bulungan JPO is part of a wider narrative of infrastructure challenges in the capital. Other recent events, such as the modifications required for the JPO at Dewi Sartika Cawang, demonstrate that the city is constantly adapting its pedestrian infrastructure to meet safety standards. When infrastructure is compromised by theft, the timeline for these necessary improvements is frequently delayed, causing frustration among the public.

Strengthening Community and Law Enforcement Collaboration

Acknowledging that the municipal government cannot monitor every square meter of public space, Syafrin Liputo has emphasized the need for a collaborative approach. He has called upon the residents of South Jakarta to act as the eyes and ears of the administration.

"We urge the public to be active in safeguarding our communal facilities. If you see suspicious activity, or if you notice any form of damage to public property, please report it immediately through the established channels," Syafrin remarked.

Furthermore, the administration is shifting its security strategy to include more rigorous surveillance. The Wali Kota confirmed that his office is in discussions with the local police department to increase patrols in areas identified as "vulnerable zones." These are locations that have historically been prone to illegal activities, including nighttime vandalism. By integrating the work of the police with the local community units (unsur kewilayahan), the city hopes to create a deterrent effect that protects public investments.

Broader Implications for Urban Planning and Safety

The incident at Bulungan serves as a case study for the complexities of urban management in a high-density environment like Jakarta. Infrastructure safety is a critical component of the "Liveable City" initiative, which aims to encourage walking and the use of public transport. When JPOs—the primary links between residential areas and public transit hubs—become unsafe, the entire ecosystem of pedestrian mobility suffers.

From a policy perspective, this event underscores the necessity of incorporating "crime prevention through environmental design" (CPTED) into the development of new public infrastructure. This includes using materials that have lower resale value on the black market, installing CCTV systems in high-traffic pedestrian areas, and designing structures that are harder to dismantle without specialized equipment.

Furthermore, the legal implications for perpetrators of such vandalism are significant. Under Indonesian law, the destruction of public property can lead to severe criminal charges. The call for police involvement suggests that the South Jakarta administration is not treating this merely as a maintenance issue, but as a public safety crime that requires a law enforcement response.

Pengumuman! JPO Bulungan Jaksel Ditutup, 20 Pelat Besi Hilang Diduga Dicuri

Comparative Analysis of Similar Incidents

It is worth noting that this is not an isolated occurrence. Throughout 2026, various parts of Jakarta have dealt with infrastructure challenges. For instance, the ongoing issues with the JPO at Kramat Jati, where heavy vehicles have collided with the bridge, highlight the vulnerability of elevated pedestrian structures. The constant need for maintenance and the reactive nature of the current repair cycles suggest that the city is facing a backlog of infrastructure management tasks.

The decision to install "Pelican Crossings" in areas where JPO repairs are deemed too costly or technically difficult reflects a shift in strategy. By moving toward at-grade crossings, the government can sometimes provide a safer and more accessible alternative for elderly or disabled pedestrians, while simultaneously reducing the opportunity for certain types of structural vandalism. However, the JPO remains a necessary feature in high-traffic corridors where at-grade crossings would significantly disrupt vehicle flow.

Moving Toward a Resilient Infrastructure Model

As the South Jakarta administration moves forward, the focus will likely remain on three pillars: rapid remediation, enhanced surveillance, and public engagement. The repair of the Bulungan JPO is only the first step in a larger effort to ensure that the city’s transit infrastructure is not only functional but also resilient against human-induced damage.

The role of technology will be pivotal in this transition. Smart city initiatives, including real-time monitoring of public assets through IoT sensors, could eventually alert maintenance teams to damage as it happens, rather than relying on reports from pedestrians after the damage has already occurred.

In conclusion, the incident at the Bulungan JPO serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of public infrastructure. While the immediate focus is on restoring the steps for the safety of the citizens, the long-term solution lies in a more integrated approach to urban security. By combining the oversight of the municipal government, the alertness of the community, and the enforcement power of the police, Jakarta aims to mitigate these risks and provide a safer environment for all who utilize its transit facilities. The commitment shown by Wali Kota Syafrin Liputo is a reflection of the city’s broader determination to prioritize the safety of its citizens over the opportunistic actions of vandals. As the city grows and modernizes, the protection of its physical assets will remain a hallmark of effective and responsive governance.

Hanum Mega Marks 26th Birthday With Y2K Gyaru Extravaganza at GBK, Spotlighting Her Evolving Business Empire and Multi-Stream Wealth

by Evan Lee Salim
written by Evan Lee Salim

The intersection of digital influence, experiential marketing, and entrepreneurial expansion was on full display in the heart of Jakarta as prominent beauty influencer Hanum Mega celebrated her 26th birthday. Hosted on Sunday, September 20, 2026, the milestone event quickly transcended a private celebration to become a viral cultural moment, drawing a high-profile guest list of Indonesia’s top creators, celebrities, and digital entrepreneurs. Held at the distinctive MOJA Museum within the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium Complex, the celebration was meticulously curated around a Y2K Gyaru aesthetic—a nostalgic yet bold nod to late-90s and early-2000s Japanese fashion and street culture.

Beyond the striking visual theme, the scale of the gathering and the opulent goodie bags distributed to attendees reignited public interest in the business acumen and financial portfolio of the young entrepreneur. As fans and industry observers marveled at the star-studded turnout and luxury event execution, attention naturally turned toward the economic engines driving Hanum Mega’s success. Far from relying solely on social media monetization, her transition from a prominent beauty vlogger to a multifaceted businesswoman provides a compelling case study in modern creator-led economies.

A Star-Studded Guest List and Immersive Aesthetic

The selection of the MOJA Museum as the venue set an immersive tone for the evening, allowing guests to step into a curated environment that married pop-culture nostalgia with modern experiential design. The dress code was strictly adhered to by an elite cohort of Indonesian influencers and public figures, including Naykilla, Erika Carlina, Fuji, Rachel Vennya, Nathalie Holscher, Rebecca Klopper, and Dara Arafah. Each attendee arrived interpreted through the lens of the Y2K Gyaru subculture, characterized by bleached or highlighted hairstyles, dramatic makeup, layered accessories, and bold streetwear staples.

The meticulous planning of the event underscored the rising trend among top-tier Indonesian influencers of treating personal milestones as high-concept brand activations. Every detail, from the lighting and spatial design to the interactive photo installations, was optimized for digital sharing, instantly propelling the hashtag and event imagery to top trends across Instagram and TikTok.

However, the pinnacle of the evening’s guest experience came at the conclusion of the event, when attendees were presented with oversized black backpacks. Rather than traditional commemorative trinkets, the luxury parting gifts contained a comprehensive curation of lifestyle and beauty essentials. Valued significantly, the backpacks were packed with high-end bodycare formulations, specialized skincare regimens, trending makeup palettes, and premium silk pillowcases. This thoughtful curation not only highlighted Hanum’s deep integration into the lifestyle and beauty sectors but also served as a subtle, effective showcase of industry-standard products favored by top creators.

From Content Creator to Beauty Tycoon: Deconstructing the Wealth of Hanum Mega

The sheer scale of the 26th birthday celebration prompted a wave of public curiosity regarding the financial foundations supporting Hanum Mega’s lifestyle. With millions of followers looking on, discussions quickly evolved from admiration of her event production to an analytical look at her diverse revenue streams. Observers noted that Hanum’s financial portfolio extends far beyond digital advertising, resting instead on a diversified foundation of physical retail services, proprietary consumer goods, and strategic brand partnerships.

Hanum Beauty Salon and Spa: The Brick-and-Mortar Venture

A cornerstone of Hanum’s physical business empire is the establishment of the Hanum Beauty Salon and Spa, located in Bogor, West Java. While many digital influencers limit their commercial ventures to digital storefronts or affiliate marketing, Hanum invested heavily in physical infrastructure to capture the booming local demand for comprehensive beauty and wellness services.

The salon and spa represent a critical diversification strategy. By moving into brick-and-mortar retail, Hanum mitigated the platform risks inherent in relying solely on social media algorithms. The facility offers a wide array of treatments, ranging from hair care and styling to advanced skin treatments and relaxing spa therapies. This physical presence not only provides a steady, localized stream of revenue but also strengthens brand trust by offering consumers a tangible, face-to-face interaction point with the "Hanum" service ethos. Industry analysts frequently cite physical service ventures as a vital maturity step for digital influencers, anchoring their personal brands in the physical economy.

Hanum Beauty Care: Scaling the Product Ecosystem

Complementing her service-oriented business, Hanum ventured into fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) with the launch of Hanum Beauty Care. This proprietary line of skincare and cosmetic products was designed to capitalize on her authority as a trusted beauty reviewer. By developing formulations tailored to the tropical climate and specific skin concerns of her core demographic, she successfully transformed her audience’s trust into brand loyalty.

Nevertheless, scaling a consumer product brand in Indonesia’s hyper-competitive beauty market is rarely without friction. In early 2024, Hanum Beauty Care found itself at the center of public discourse following operational disputes involving the brand’s network of resellers. The incident served as a stark reminder of the complexities inherent in supply chain management, distribution networks, and partner relations within the beauty industry. Rather than derailing her enterprise, the episode provided a crucial lesson in corporate governance and partner relations, prompting a structural refinement in how her team manages wholesale distribution and reseller agreements. Today, the brand remains an active component of her commercial portfolio, continuously adapting to shifting consumer preferences and regulatory standards.

Monetizing Influence: The Power of Endorsements and Digital Reach

Despite her aggressive expansion into physical retail and consumer goods, digital media remains the primary megaphone for Hanum Mega’s commercial activities. By 2026, her official Instagram account commanded a robust audience of approximately 4.3 million followers, complemented by substantial followings across TikTok and YouTube.

This massive, highly engaged digital footprint positions her at the apex of Indonesia’s influencer marketing hierarchy. In the contemporary digital economy, a following of this magnitude allows for lucrative endorsement deals, long-term brand ambassadorships, and sponsored content campaigns with multinational conglomerates, particularly in the fast-moving consumer goods, fashion, and lifestyle sectors. Digital marketing experts note that the synergy between Hanum’s social media channels and her proprietary businesses creates a powerful closed-loop marketing ecosystem: her Instagram and TikTok platforms act as zero-cost, high-conversion acquisition channels for Hanum Beauty Care and her salon services, drastically reducing traditional advertising expenditures.

Implications and the Evolution of the Creator Economy

The narrative surrounding Hanum Mega’s 26th birthday celebration offers a valuable lens through which to examine the maturation of Indonesia’s creator economy. Kebakaran Landa Permukiman Padat Penduduk di Kebayoran Lama 128 Personel Damkar Dikerahkan

by Iffa Jayyana
written by Iffa Jayyana

A catastrophic fire broke out in a densely populated residential area located on Jalan Teuku Nyak Arif, Kebayoran Lama Utara, South Jakarta, on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2026. The incident, which triggered a massive emergency response from local authorities, saw 128 firefighters and 24 specialized fire trucks deployed to combat the blaze. The inferno, which consumed several structures including residential units, a small eatery, and an automotive repair shop, has once again highlighted the extreme fire risks inherent in Jakarta’s highly compacted urban landscape.

Chronology of the Incident

The emergency response operation commenced at approximately 20:31 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) when the Command Center of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat) received a distress call from a local resident. The report indicated that flames were rapidly engulfing a property situated near the high-traffic intersection at the Jalan Kramat traffic lights.

Given the proximity of the residential area to a busy thoroughfare, the fire posed an immediate threat to surrounding buildings and local infrastructure. The first fire engine units arrived at the scene at 20:39 WIB, just eight minutes after the initial alert. By 20:41 WIB, the teams had initiated active suppression measures, focusing on preventing the fire from jumping to adjacent properties. Despite the rapid response, the high density of the buildings and the presence of combustible materials, such as tires at the nearby workshop, caused the fire to spread with alarming speed.

Initial Investigation and Probable Causes

Preliminary testimonies from eyewitnesses and residents suggest that the fire may have originated from a short circuit in the electrical wiring of an upper-level room in a rented house. Electrical faults remain the leading cause of residential fires in Jakarta, often stemming from substandard wiring, overloaded circuits, or the use of non-compliant electrical appliances in older, poorly maintained structures.

As the flames moved from the initial room to the rest of the dwelling, they quickly encroached upon neighboring structures. The inclusion of a small eatery and a tire repair shop added volatile fuel to the fire, complicating the efforts of the 128 personnel on the ground. Firefighters had to manage not only the primary structural fire but also the toxic smoke and chemical fumes generated by the burning rubber at the workshop, which hampered visibility and respiratory safety for the responders.

The Challenge of Urban Density

The geography of Kebayoran Lama, particularly in the vicinity of Jalan Teuku Nyak Arif, presents significant logistical hurdles for emergency services. These areas are characterized by narrow alleyways and high-density housing, which often restricts the maneuverability of heavy fire apparatus. The deployment of 24 units reflects the complexity of the operation, as responders had to establish long-distance water relay systems and coordinate containment efforts across multiple, tightly packed properties.

In Jakarta, the risk of fire propagation is exacerbated by the "cascading effect," where the proximity of buildings—often separated by only a few centimeters or shared walls—allows heat to transfer rapidly. Furthermore, the reliance on makeshift electrical connections and the lack of fire-resistant building materials in informal or semi-formal housing settlements create a environment where a minor accident can quickly escalate into a multi-structure disaster.

Comparative Analysis and Regional Context

This incident is not an isolated event in South Jakarta. The city’s history of fire incidents, including the notable blaze near Simprug Golf which resulted in a fatality, underscores a systemic issue regarding urban planning and safety regulation compliance. Data from the Jakarta Gulkarmat over the past five years indicates that the majority of fire incidents in the capital occur within residential zones, often peaking during the dry season or during periods of high electrical usage.

Kebakaran Landa Permukiman Padat Kebayoran Lama, 128 Personel Damkar Dikerahkan

The density of Kebayoran Lama presents a unique challenge for urban planners. While city authorities have implemented various "Kampung Improvement Programs," the challenge of retrofitting fire-safety infrastructure—such as fire hydrants, emergency access roads, and fire-resistant materials—into established, high-density neighborhoods remains a formidable task.

Official Response and Public Safety Measures

Following the containment of the fire, authorities have emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding electrical safety. The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department regularly conducts outreach programs aimed at educating residents on the dangers of illegal power tapping, overloaded power strips, and the necessity of routine electrical inspections by licensed professionals.

However, the socio-economic reality for many residents in these areas—where housing is often rented and occupants have little control over the maintenance of the electrical infrastructure—creates a barrier to prevention. Local government agencies are currently evaluating the need for stricter enforcement of building codes in densely populated districts to mitigate the risk of future catastrophes.

Broader Implications for Urban Resilience

The impact of such fires extends beyond the immediate destruction of property. Displaced families often face significant economic hardship, losing both their homes and their livelihoods, as seen in this incident where a local business was destroyed. The psychological trauma for the community and the strain on municipal emergency resources underscore the necessity of a multi-faceted approach to urban resilience.

Experts in urban disaster management suggest that effective fire mitigation in Jakarta requires a combination of top-down and bottom-up strategies. This includes:

  1. Infrastructure Investment: Expanding the network of accessible hydrants and ensuring consistent water pressure in high-risk zones.
  2. Community Training: Establishing local volunteer fire-watch groups (Relawan Pemadam Kebakaran) that can provide initial containment before professional help arrives.
  3. Strict Enforcement: Periodic mandatory inspections of electrical installations in rental properties to ensure they meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).
  4. Public Education: Sustained campaigns regarding the dangers of fire hazards, particularly in high-density informal settlements.

Economic and Social Recovery

In the aftermath of the Kebayoran Lama fire, the immediate focus of the local government shifts toward humanitarian aid. Coordinating with the Social Agency (Dinas Sosial), the city typically provides emergency tents, food supplies, and basic necessities for those displaced. The long-term recovery, however, rests on the ability of the affected families to rebuild and the capacity of the local economy to absorb the loss of the small businesses affected.

As the investigation into the exact cause of the fire continues, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragile balance between urban growth and safety in Jakarta. With the city continuing to densify, the role of the Gulkarmat has become increasingly critical, transitioning from purely reactive firefighting to a more proactive role in community safety and disaster preparedness.

Conclusion

The fire at Jalan Teuku Nyak Arif serves as a sobering case study of the vulnerabilities inherent in Jakarta’s urban fabric. While the swift action of the 128 firefighters prevented a larger loss of life and contained the spread to the surrounding blocks, the incident highlights the ongoing struggle to protect residents from the hazards of high-density living. As the city moves forward, it remains imperative that policymakers, building owners, and residents alike prioritize safety measures that can prevent these tragedies from recurring. The resilience of the Kebayoran Lama community will be tested in the coming weeks as they begin the process of rebuilding, but for the city at large, the lesson is clear: fire prevention is not merely a matter of equipment, but a continuous commitment to urban safety and infrastructure integrity.

As of the latest updates from the scene, the fire has been successfully extinguished, and investigators are working to secure the area to prevent any rekindling. No official casualty count has been released beyond the initial reports, and the focus remains on supporting the affected families and clearing the debris that has blocked local access roads. The incident serves as a critical checkpoint for the local administration to assess the emergency response time and the efficacy of current fire mitigation strategies in the Kebayoran Lama district.

AQUA, Dewan Masjid Indonesia, and Badan Pengelola Masjid Istiqlal Send 27 Mosque Caretakers and Administrators on Umrah Pilgrimage

by Basiran
written by Basiran

Jakarta — In a continued effort to honor the tireless contributions of grassroots religious workers, AQUA, in strategic collaboration with the Indonesian Mosque Council (Dewan Masjid Indonesia/DMI) and the Management Board of Istiqlal Mosque (Badan Pengelola Masjid Istiqlal/BPMI), has officially dispatched 27 marbot (mosque caretakers) and mosque administrators to perform the Umrah pilgrimage in the Holy Land.

Entering its third consecutive year, this philanthropic and community-focused initiative has successfully facilitated the sacred journey for a total of 70 mosque caretakers hailing from diverse regions across the Indonesian archipelago. The program reflects a growing recognition of the vital, yet frequently overlooked, role that frontline mosque workers play in maintaining the spiritual and social fabric of local communities.

The Strategic Importance of Mosque Caretakers

According to data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Mosque Information System (SIMAS), Indonesia is home to more than 710,000 registered mosques and musala (prayer rooms). Beyond serving strictly as houses of worship, these religious sanctuaries function as vital hubs for education, community empowerment, and the strengthening of social solidarity.

Operating behind the scenes of these massive community centers are the marbot and mosque administrators. These individuals dedicate their time, energy, and unwavering attention to serving congregations. They are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of the facilities, ensuring that daily prayers and educational programs run smoothly, and transforming mosques into living, accessible spaces that benefit the broader public.

Despite working largely away from the public spotlight, their dedication serves as the bedrock that preserves the operational continuity of religious spaces. Their work fosters a culture of togetherness, empathy, and mutual assistance within neighborhoods throughout the country.

Insights and Perspectives from Institutional Leaders

During the departure ceremony, KH Bukhori Sail Al-Tahiri, Head of the Worship Implementation Division at BPMI, emphasized the profound significance of honoring these community servants. He noted that the program seeks to uplift the key drivers of mosque activities in Indonesia while reinforcing the function of mosques as centers for community guidance and public service.

"The devotion of marbot and mosque administrators is an inspiration that we should all emulate," KH Bukhori stated. "Through their sincerity, we are reminded that there is immense blessing in every effort to compete in bringing goodness to the community and society."

He further expressed his appreciation for the seamless synergy between private sector entities and religious organizations, highlighting a shared vision to prosper mosques and elevate those who maintain them.

Echoing this sentiment, DMI Secretary General Rahmat Hidayat underscored that the collaboration with AQUA forms part of a broader strategy to deliver direct, tangible benefits to the nation’s mosque ecosystem. DMI remains deeply committed to empowering mosques so they can maximize their community impact.

"We see that paying attention to marbot and mosque administrators is not only important as a form of appreciation, but also as part of efforts to maintain the sustainability of the mosque’s role as a space for service, coaching, and strengthening the ummah," Rahmat explained.

From the corporate perspective, AQUA views the partnership as a meaningful channel to deliver positive, lasting value to society. Agung Laksamana, General Secretary Director of Danone Indonesia, emphasized that sustainable community empowerment relies on genuine, long-term cooperation.

"We believe that the empowerment of the ummah requires sincere and sustainable collaboration," Agung remarked. "AQUA is committed to continuing our journey alongside various partners—including religious organizations, mosque institutions, and local communities—to present initiatives that strengthen the social role of mosques and provide a broader positive impact for the people of Indonesia."

Personal Reflections from the Pilgrims

For many participants, the journey represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that transcends ordinary travel, offering deep spiritual fulfillment. Abdul Muaz, a mosque representative from Bogor, West Java, shared his overwhelming gratitude upon being selected for the pilgrimage.

He noted that the entire expedition was meticulously organized, noting that logistical elements—ranging from telecommunication needs to daily provisions—were handled with exceptional care.

"With all of this comprehensive support, we were able to depart with peace of mind and focus entirely on our worship in the Holy Land," Muaz said.

Beyond the Umrah Program: A Holistic Approach to Community Development

The partnership between AQUA, DMI, and BPMI extends far beyond annual religious travel delegations. The tripartite alliance has previously collaborated on a diverse array of social, economic, and environmental initiatives. These include economic development programs for the ummah, the Healthy and Green Mosque (Masjid Hijau dan Sehat) initiative, and mosque-based community empowerment projects designed to foster a healthier, more self-reliant population.

Organizers hope that the spiritual journey serves as a wellspring of renewed motivation for the caretakers upon their return.

"For us, this program is expected to maintain the spirit of goodness so that it continues to grow and provide benefits to more people," Agung Laksamana added. "We hope this experience becomes a strengthening spiritual provision, while presenting new inspiration for the participants in continuing their dedication amidst society."

As part of its broader corporate social responsibility and community engagement framework, AQUA maintains active partnerships with various prominent Islamic organizations across Indonesia. In addition to DMI and the Istiqlal Mosque Management Board, the company routinely collaborates with Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), Muhammadiyah (PP Muhammadiyah), and numerous Islamic boarding school (pesantren) networks throughout the country. These expansive alliances aim to maximize sustainable social and environmental outcomes, reinforcing the private sector’s role in supporting community-driven religious infrastructure.

Ichsanuddin Noorsy: Jangan Ajari Posisi Tangan di Bawah, Fokus Buka Lapangan Kerja

by Layla Zulfa
written by Layla Zulfa

The ambitious Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program, a flagship initiative designed to improve nutritional standards among Indonesian students and vulnerable populations, has come under intense scrutiny from political economist Ichsanuddin Noorsy. Speaking during the "Rakyat Bersuara" program on iNews, Noorsy argued that the government’s reliance on the MBG framework to address poverty is structurally misaligned with the broader constitutional mandate for social welfare. According to Noorsy, the program risks fostering a culture of dependency rather than addressing the root causes of economic inequality.

The Constitutional Debate: Analyzing Article 34

At the core of the debate is the interpretation of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. The government has frequently framed the MBG program within the scope of Article 34, which mandates that the state should care for the poor and neglected, and provides for the development of social security systems. However, Noorsy contends that viewing the program primarily through the lens of Article 34 is a tactical error.

By categorizing the provision of free meals strictly as a social assistance (bansos) measure, Noorsy argues that the government is essentially treating beneficiaries as passive recipients—a state he describes as "keeping one’s hand underneath," or dependency. Drawing on classical economic theory, he invoked the perspectives of Adam Smith, characterizing the program as a superficial fix—akin to "leftovers from dinner"—that fails to empower the populace to achieve self-sufficiency.

Beyond Social Assistance: A Holistic Constitutional Approach

Noorsy advocates for a departure from the "charity-first" model. He argues that if the government intends to utilize the Constitution as a foundation for national welfare, it must view the MBG program as part of a cohesive strategy that integrates multiple articles rather than isolating Article 34.

He emphasized that the state should prioritize:

  • Article 23: Regarding the management of the State Budget (APBN) to ensure efficiency and transparent allocation.
  • Article 27: Guaranteeing the right to work and a decent standard of living for every citizen.
  • Article 31: Focusing on the quality of education as a primary driver for social mobility.
  • Article 33: Governing the national economy based on the principle of familial cooperation and communal prosperity.

"If the government wants to align with the Constitution, it cannot look only at Article 34. It must harmonize this with Articles 23, 27, 31, and 33," Noorsy stated. By focusing on employment (Article 27) and education (Article 31), the state would theoretically be creating a sustainable environment where citizens can earn their own livelihoods, thereby reducing the systemic need for food aid programs.

Contextualizing the MBG Program

The MBG program was introduced as a central pillar of the current administration’s agenda to combat stunting and improve the cognitive development of children. According to recent data from the Ministry of Health, stunting remains a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, with prevalence rates hovering around 21.5% in 2023. The government’s target is to reduce this to 14% by the end of the term.

The logistics of the program involve massive public spending, with projections suggesting that the program could cost hundreds of trillions of rupiah annually once fully implemented nationwide. This scale of expenditure raises critical questions about fiscal sustainability, especially when compared to other development goals such as infrastructure investment, industrialization, and human capital development.

Chronology of the Policy Rollout

The trajectory of the MBG program has been rapid, moving from a campaign promise to a pilot project phase and eventually to a national policy framework:

  1. Early 2024: The program is announced as a flagship initiative, focusing on providing daily nutritious meals to school-aged children and pregnant women.
  2. Mid-2024: Pilot projects are launched in selected regions to test the supply chain, food safety, and distribution mechanisms.
  3. Late 2024: Government officials begin formalizing the budget allocation for the next fiscal year, with specific focus on school-based feeding centers.
  4. September 2026 (Current Context): Critics like Ichsanuddin Noorsy raise public concerns regarding the long-term socio-economic implications of the program during televised debates, highlighting the shift from structural reform to social welfare distribution.

Economic Implications and Official Responses

While the government maintains that the MBG program is a vital investment in human capital—arguing that a well-nourished generation is a more productive workforce in the long term—critics point to the potential for fiscal strain.

The Ministry of Finance has consistently stated that the budget for the MBG program is integrated into the broader social protection framework, aiming to stimulate the local economy by sourcing food supplies from local farmers and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs). The argument is that by decentralizing the food supply chain, the government is not just feeding students but also creating demand for agricultural output.

However, independent economists remain cautious. They point out that the multiplier effect of food distribution is often lower than that of targeted infrastructure projects or direct investments in education and healthcare infrastructure. Furthermore, there is the risk of "crowding out" other essential services if the budget for MBG grows at the expense of other vital developmental sectors.

Comparative Analysis: Is Social Assistance a Poverty Trap?

The criticism leveled by Noorsy reflects a broader global debate regarding the efficacy of food-based welfare programs. Countries such as Brazil and India have implemented similar large-scale feeding programs. In Brazil, the Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar (PNAE) is often cited as a success story for linking local agriculture with school nutrition. However, in India, the Midday Meal Scheme has faced challenges regarding quality control, corruption, and the sustainability of funding.

The "poverty trap" argument—the idea that welfare programs can inadvertently discourage labor participation—is a recurring theme in political economy. Noorsy’s warning is that by placing too much emphasis on direct assistance, the government may be ignoring the "structural violence" of economic policies that prevent the poor from securing stable, well-paying jobs. If a family is dependent on a government-provided meal for their child, the state has addressed a symptom of poverty, but not the cause.

The Road Ahead: Challenges and Recommendations

As the government moves forward with the implementation of the MBG program, several challenges remain:

  1. Supply Chain Integrity: Ensuring that the food provided is both nutritious and safe requires a complex logistics network that is currently in its infancy in many parts of Indonesia.
  2. Budgetary Sustainability: As the national debt levels are monitored by international credit rating agencies, the fiscal space for new, permanent social programs is limited.
  3. Integration with Other Policies: Experts suggest that for the MBG program to be effective, it must be part of a broader "life-cycle" approach to welfare, where school nutrition is complemented by early childhood education, maternal health support, and job market reforms.

The call from observers like Ichsanuddin Noorsy is for the government to pivot. Instead of viewing the MBG as a standalone solution to poverty, it should be recalibrated as a temporary nutritional bridge. The long-term goal, he argues, must remain the creation of a robust economic structure where, as per Article 27, every citizen has access to decent employment, rendering the need for state-funded meal programs obsolete in the long run.

Ultimately, the debate over the Makan Bergizi Gratis program serves as a microcosm of the larger struggle to define the role of the state in Indonesia’s development. Whether it becomes a catalyst for human capital growth or a recurring fiscal burden will depend on how the government balances immediate social needs with the long-term requirements of constitutional economic justice. The coming months will be critical as the government evaluates the efficacy of the program’s initial phases and potentially adjusts its policy approach to ensure that the "hand" of the citizen is indeed empowered, rather than merely supported.

Hanura Rejects Proposal Requiring Presidential Candidates to Secure Support from Two DPR Factions

by Asep Darmawan
written by Asep Darmawan

The political landscape in Indonesia continues to experience dynamic shifts regarding election regulations as political parties prepare for upcoming democratic contests. Recently, the People’s Conscience Party (Partai Hanura) officially expressed strong opposition to a circulating legislative proposal that would require any presidential and vice-presidential ticket to secure backing from a minimum of two parliamentary factions in the House of Representatives (DPR) under the planned revision of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections.

The rejection was publicly voiced by Hanura’s Deputy Chairperson, Patrice Rio Capella, during a consolidation meeting in Surabaya, East Java. According to the party leadership, introducing such a requirement lacks proper legal grounding and directly contradicts landmark constitutional rulings that have fundamentally reshaped the nation’s presidential nomination process. As political observers and lawmakers debate the future of Indonesia’s electoral framework, this developing disagreement highlights ongoing tensions between constitutional mandates and parliamentary maneuvers aimed at regulating political competition.

Background Context on the Presidential Threshold Debate

To understand the weight of Hanura’s recent stance, one must examine the historical evolution of the presidential threshold (presidential threshold or PT) in Indonesia. Since the direct election of presidents and vice-presidents began, political parties or coalitions of parties have had to meet specific electoral criteria to nominate candidates. Historically, these requirements were tied to the previous legislative election results, compelling smaller parties to form coalitions to meet the necessary percentage thresholds of seats in the DPR or popular votes nationwide.

For years, these thresholds sparked considerable legal and political controversy. Critics argued that high thresholds marginalized smaller political entities, limited the range of choices available to voters, and entrenched the dominance of major political parties. Conversely, proponents maintained that thresholds were necessary to ensure government stability, prevent excessive fragmentation in the legislature, and foster effective coalition-building that could support a president’s agenda in parliament.

A watershed moment arrived when the Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi or MK) issued a definitive ruling dismantling the traditional presidential threshold framework, lowering the requirement to zero percent for eligible participating political parties. This decision fundamentally altered the legal architecture of Indonesian elections, granting every registered political party contesting the election the constitutional right to put forward their own presidential and vice-presidential candidates without needing to pool parliamentary seats with other factions.

Chronology of the Recent Controversy

The latest debate surfaced as lawmakers in the House of Representatives began discussions surrounding potential amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. While various factions floated multiple ideas to refine the electoral system, a specific proposal emerged suggesting that while the numerical presidential threshold might technically stand at zero percent due to the Constitutional Court’s ruling, a new operational requirement could be introduced: any nominated ticket must secure formal backing from at least two parliamentary factions in the DPR to appear on the ballot.

This proposal immediately triggered mixed reactions across the political spectrum. On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Patrice Rio Capella addressed the matter directly while leading a consolidation meeting and task force briefing for Hanura cadres from across East Java at the Platinum Tunjungan Hotel in Surabaya. During this event, Rio Capella unequivocally dismissed the proposal, labeling it as legally flawed and politically confusing.

"I do not understand who provided that unintelligent input. The Constitutional Court has already decided that the presidential threshold is zero percent," Rio Capella stated to journalists following the session. He emphasized that the distinction between political parties participating in elections and factions sitting within the parliamentary chamber must be clearly maintained, as mixing the two concepts undermines established constitutional protections.

Legal Arguments and Hanura’s Stance

Hanura Tolak Wacana Capres Minimal Didukung 2 Fraksi DPR, Ini Alasannya

Partai Hanura’s primary objection rests on the supremacy of Constitutional Court rulings and the distinct nature of political entities in Indonesia’s constitutional system. Rio Capella reiterated that the highest legal authorities in the country have already established that political parties certified as election participants possess the inherent right to nominate executive leaders.

By attempting to insert a requirement that mandates support from two DPR factions, lawmakers who support the idea are, in Hanura’s view, attempting to reintroduce a backdoor threshold. Because political factions are formed inside the parliament after an election takes place, requiring pre-existing support from these factions would create an insurmountable structural barrier for newly established or non-parliamentary parties, effectively neutralizing the liberalization achieved through the Constitutional Court’s zero-percent ruling.

Furthermore, Hanura argues that such a requirement would create widespread public confusion. Voters and party members who rely on clear, stable electoral laws would find themselves navigating contradictory regulations where the judiciary expands political participation while the legislature simultaneously contracts it through administrative hurdles.

Broader Implications and Political Analysis

The friction surrounding the proposed two-faction support rule points to a broader, ongoing institutional struggle between the judiciary and the legislative branch in Indonesia. When the Constitutional Court strikes down restrictive electoral thresholds, it often sets off legislative discussions where parliamentarians seek alternative mechanisms to preserve their collective gatekeeping power over executive nominations.

Political analysts note that rules governing executive nominations serve as the primary mechanism through which established parliamentary parties protect their collective influence. If every party is legally empowered to nominate a candidate without needing coalition partners, the bargaining power of major factions diminishes significantly during pre-election coalition talks. Consequently, proposals like the two-faction support requirement are often viewed by critics as attempts to recreate exclusivity in presidential races.

However, implementing rules that run counter to the spirit—or direct letter—of Constitutional Court decisions risks triggering further legal challenges. Civil society organizations and smaller political parties are likely to file formal judicial reviews if parliament attempts to codify provisions that effectively restore barriers to presidential nominations. Such legal battles could prolong uncertainty surrounding the electoral framework, complicating preparations for election organizers and political parties alike.

Reactions from Other Parliamentary Factions and Stakeholders

While Hanura has taken a vocal and uncompromising stance against the proposal, discussions within the DPR remain fluid. Other political parties are still weighing the pros and cons of various electoral reform options as part of the broader evaluation of Law Number 7 of 2017. Major parties with significant parliamentary presence have historically favored mechanisms that encourage broad-based coalitions to ensure governing stability, though they must navigate public expectations for a more open and inclusive democratic process.

Public policy experts have urged lawmakers to focus on transparency and constitutional alignment rather than introducing complex procedural filters that could disenfranchise political participants or reduce voter choice. As the legislative agenda progresses, stakeholders across the political spectrum will continue to monitor how committee discussions handle the sensitive balance between parliamentary management and constitutional rights.

Conclusion and Outlook

The rejection by Partai Hanura of the proposed two-faction support requirement for presidential nominations underscores the fierce debate defining Indonesia’s electoral reform process. As the political year unfolds, the tension between legislative initiatives and judicial mandates will remain a critical focal point. With party leaders like Patrice Rio Capella pressing for strict adherence to the Constitutional Court’s zero-percent threshold ruling, any legislative attempts to reintroduce backdoor barriers will face intense scrutiny, debate, and potential legal challenges from those committed to expanding democratic participation in the archipelago.
