President Prabowo Subianto Announces Upcoming Cabinet Meeting to Plan Free Public Education Across Indonesia

by Ammar Sabilarrohman
written by Ammar Sabilarrohman

JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto has formally announced his intention to convene an imminent limited cabinet meeting, commonly referred to as a ratas, to formulate comprehensive strategies aimed at abolishing tuition fees across all state-run primary schools, secondary institutions, and public universities nationwide. The policy directive, which targets a fundamental restructuring of state funding for public education, is designed to eliminate financial barriers and expand equal access to quality learning environments for millions of Indonesian students.

The head of state revealed this ambitious policy objective during his keynote address at the grand celebration marking the 28th anniversary of the National Mandate Party (PAN). The high-profile political gathering took place at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) located in the Senayan area of Central Jakarta. Addressing party members, government officials, and invited guests, President Prabowo emphasized that universal access to state-funded education is no longer a distant aspiration but an urgent necessity that requires immediate executive action.

The Presidential Directive and Policy Scope

During his address at the anniversary celebration, President Prabowo underscored the absolute necessity of removing financial burdens from families seeking public education for their children. He asserted that the state bears the fundamental responsibility of ensuring that foundational and tertiary education systems remain accessible without economic discrimination.

"I will immediately hold a limited cabinet meeting because, essentially, the cost of public education must be free. The cost of public education for elementary schools, junior high schools, senior high schools, and state universities must be free," President Prabowo stated firmly during the event.

The scope of the proposed policy encompasses all levels of the state-administered educational framework. By targeting not only compulsory basic education—comprising primary and lower secondary levels—but also upper secondary and higher education institutions, the initiative represents one of the most comprehensive overhauls of educational financing in the nation’s history.

Context of the Announcement and Administrative Urgency

The announcement was delivered within the broader context of the administration’s accelerated development agenda. President Prabowo defended the fast-paced nature of government operations over the preceding two years, noting that infrastructural and social welfare demands require rapid intervention rather than prolonged bureaucratic deliberation. He drew attention to various grassroots initiatives, such as the construction of village bridges and the rehabilitation of deteriorating school infrastructure, as evidence of an administration focused on tangible results.

"So, brothers and sisters, our achievements are numerous because we keep working. We have kept working continuously over these past two years. We have reached a point where, yes, we are sometimes accused of lacking communication. We communicate less because we keep working. We are rushing because the people cannot wait any longer. Yes, children cannot wait. Bridges in villages must be built," the President explained.

Furthermore, the President highlighted that the holistic enhancement of the educational ecosystem extends beyond tuition fee elimination. The government’s broader reform agenda encompasses infrastructural upgrades, the modernization of school buildings, the improvement of sanitation facilities, and the elevation of teachers’ welfare to ensure a conducive learning environment nationwide.

Chronology of Educational Reform Commitments

The push toward tuition-free public education builds upon a series of policy statements and administrative reforms initiated since the commencement of the current presidential term.

In preceding months, the administration has consistently prioritized human capital development as a cornerstone of national progress. Education sector reviews have frequently highlighted systemic challenges, including disparities in educational quality between urban and rural areas, infrastructural deficits, and complexities surrounding teacher recruitment and compensation.

Earlier policy interventions focused heavily on rectifying foundational flaws within the educational bureaucracy. Notably, the administration has emphasized that structural improvements must begin at the root of the system, specifically addressing educator recruitment protocols to guarantee that qualified professionals are placed in classrooms across the archipelago. The upcoming limited cabinet meeting represents the next logical step in translating these overarching goals into concrete budgetary allocations and legislative frameworks.

Background Data and Educational Landscape in Indonesia

To contextualize President Prabowo’s initiative, it is essential to examine the existing structure of public education financing and enrollment demographics in Indonesia. The country boasts tens of millions of students enrolled across hundreds of thousands of educational institutions.

While basic education has theoretically benefited from various government assistance programs, such as the School Operational Assistance (BOS) fund, families frequently encounter supplementary costs, including fees for extracurricular activities, uniforms, books, and localized operational contributions. At the tertiary level, tuition fees—known commercially as Uang Kuliah Tunggal (UKT) in state universities—often present significant hurdles for lower-income households, occasionally restricting access to higher education despite academic merit.

Public expenditures on education have historically constituted a mandated minimum of 20 percent of the state budget (APBN), in accordance with the Indonesian Constitution. However, optimizing the distribution and utilization of these funds to achieve zero-tuition models across all public tertiary institutions requires meticulous fiscal planning, revenue reallocation, and enhanced auditing mechanisms to prevent institutional budget deficits.

Stakeholder Reactions and Initial Analyses

The announcement has elicited diverse reactions from educational experts, legislators, civil society organizations, and economic analysts. While the overarching objective of accessible education is widely praised as a progressive stride toward realizing constitutional mandates, experts emphasize the importance of careful implementation and sustainable financing.

Representatives from teacher associations and academic unions have expressed cautious optimism. Many point out that while free tuition removes an immediate financial burden from parents, the systemic success of the policy depends heavily on parallel investments in educational quality. Ensuring that state universities and public schools remain adequately funded—without compromising facility maintenance, laboratory equipment, or educator salaries—remains a primary concern for education watchdogs.

Economic analysts have similarly highlighted the fiscal implications of expanding free education to the tertiary level. State universities rely significantly on tuition revenues to supplement state allocations for research, operational continuity, and campus development. Consequently, any transition toward completely free higher education necessitates robust state subsidization to prevent a decline in academic standards or institutional operational capacity.

Implications for the National Budget and Legislative Coordination

The forthcoming limited cabinet meeting will likely involve coordination among key ministries, including the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).

The Ministry of Finance faces the complex task of calculating the projected fiscal deficit resulting from lost tuition revenues and designing compensating budgetary mechanisms. This may involve optimizing tax collection efficiencies, reallocating non-essential expenditures, and prioritizing human capital investments within forthcoming state budget drafts.

Concurrently, legislative involvement will be crucial. Implementing systemic tuition elimination across state universities and secondary schools may require adjustments to existing legal frameworks concerning public service agencies (BLU) and regional educational management. The House of Representatives (DPR) is expected to review the policy proposals once the executive branch finalizes the technical roadmap resulting from the cabinet deliberations.

Broader Socio-Economic Impact

If successfully implemented, the policy of free public education from primary school through university could fundamentally alter Indonesia’s socio-economic landscape. By lowering the financial barriers to higher education, the nation can anticipate a gradual rise in gross enrollment rates at the tertiary level, thereby supplying a more highly skilled workforce suited to modern industrial demands.

Furthermore, alleviating educational expenditures for families frees up household disposable income, which can be redirected toward nutrition, healthcare, and other essential domestic needs. This economic relief aligns with broader national objectives aimed at poverty reduction, social mobility, and the alleviation of regional disparities in educational attainment.

As the nation awaits the outcomes of the scheduled limited cabinet meeting, the administration’s resolve to pursue aggressive educational reforms remains evident. The coming weeks will likely provide clearer regulatory frameworks, budgetary projections, and implementation timelines regarding the realization of tuition-free public education across Indonesia.

The Deep Psychological Scars of Bullying: A Comprehensive Examination from Islamic Ethics and Modern Mental Health Perspectives

by Suro Senen
written by Suro Senen

Bullying is frequently minimized as mere teasing or a transient conflict between peers, yet its capacity to inflict deep, long-lasting psychological trauma on victims remains a critical public health and humanitarian crisis. In an exhaustive analysis recently published in the September 2026 edition of Suara Muhammadiyah, Ruslan Fariadi, a prominent member of the Tarjih and Tajdid Council of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, addressed the multifaceted dimensions of bullying. Titled “The Psychological Impact of Bullying,” the publication breaks down the definition, categorizations, and severe aftermath of harassment while bridging modern psychological insights with classical Islamic jurisprudence and prophetic traditions.

The discourse surrounding peer victimization has evolved significantly over the past decade. No longer viewed simply as a harmless rite of passage among youth, bullying is now internationally recognized as a systemic form of violence that breaches fundamental human rights. Fariadi’s academic intervention highlights that the repercussions of peer abuse extend far beyond immediate physical injuries, frequently anchoring deep-seated mental health disorders that persist well into adulthood. By examining the issue through both sociological frameworks and the ethical warnings of Hadith literature, Muhammadiyah’s analysis calls for a unified, preventative approach across all educational tiers—ranging from primary schools and secondary institutions to universities and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren).

Defining the Spectrum of Harassment and Modern Categorizations

To accurately diagnose and combat the phenomenon, Fariadi anchored his operational definition in the Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), which characterizes bullying as continuous disturbance, molestation, and affliction. Terminologically, the definition expands to encompass any intentional act of troubling, annoying, or injuring another person—either physically or psychologically—through intimidation, humiliation, degradation, harassment, or social ostracization.

Based on the medium, target, and intent, Fariadi categorizes contemporary bullying into five distinct forms:

  1. Physical Bullying: Direct acts of physical violence inflicted upon the victim.
  2. Verbal Bullying: The deployment of harsh language, verbal threats, intimidation, and public insults.
  3. Social Bullying: Deliberate exclusion and isolation of the victim from their peer circles and community networks.
  4. Emotional Bullying: Actions specifically designed to destabilize the victim’s mental state, induce sadness, anxiety, and fear, often compounded by the dissemination of malicious rumors.
  5. Cyberbullying: Harassment conducted via digital communication channels and social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok, which allows torment to follow victims seamlessly into their private spaces.

These manifestations transcend socio-economic backgrounds and geographic locations, infiltrating formal and informal educational ecosystems globally. Because modern technology has erased traditional safe spaces, the boundary between school hours and personal time has dissolved, rendering cyberbullying an omnipresent threat that amplifies psychological vulnerability.

The Islamic Perspective: Prophetic Warnings on Zulum and the "Bankrupt" Soul

To underscore the gravity of peer harassment from a religious standpoint, Fariadi examined bullying through the framework of Islamic ethics, linking abusive behaviors to severe spiritual and moral transgressions. Although classical texts do not utilize the modern terminology of "bullying," the underlying principles of oppression (zulum), transgression of rights, and harm against humanity are heavily addressed in Hadith literature.

Fariadi drew specific attention to the well-documented Hadith regarding the "muflis" (bankrupt person) on the Day of Judgment, recorded in Sahih Muslim. In this narration, Prophet Muhammad SAW questioned his companions regarding the identity of a bankrupt person. While the companions identified financial destitution, the Prophet clarified that the truly bankrupt individual from his ummah is one who arrives on the Day of Judgment having accumulated extensive good deeds—such as prayers, fasting, and charity—yet has spent their lifetime verbally abusing others, falsely accusing individuals, unjustly consuming wealth, shedding blood, and physically harming their peers.

Under the jurisprudential rule of al-‘ibrah bi ‘umum al-lafzhi la bi khushush as-sabab (lessons are derived from the general implication of the wording, not the specific occasion of its revelation), Fariadi mapped this theological warning directly onto modern bullying behaviors. This framework identifies four primary categories of peer-induced offenses:

  • As-Syathmu wa al-Qadzfu (Verbal Abuse and Defamation): Inflicting psychological pain through derogatory name-calling, bestowing humiliating animal monikers, spreading malicious gossip, and instilling intimidation. Fariadi reinforced this by citing a Hadith from Sahih al-Bukhari, narrated by Abu Syuraih, wherein the Prophet Muhammad SAW emphatically swore three times that a person is not a true believer if their neighbor—or by extension, their peer—does not feel safe from their harmful actions.
  • Akl Māl al-Ghair bi Ghairi Haqq (Unjust Appropriation of Rights): Seizing or extorting another’s belongings without a legitimate right. Beyond material loss, this act intentionally induces feelings of powerlessness, humiliation, and psychological distress.
  • Ad-Dharb (Physical Violence): Direct physical assaults, including beating, kicking, slapping, and trampling vulnerable individuals who pose no threat. Fariadi emphasized that such actions cause profound compounding trauma across physical, mental, and psychological dimensions.
  • Safk Dam wa al-Qatl (Severe Harm and Homicide): Extreme escalation of physical abuse resulting in severe permanent injury or loss of life, frequently perpetrated through mob violence or group bullying. Fariadi stressed that both direct perpetrators and passive bystanders who knowingly enable or ignore such crimes share criminal culpability for crimes against humanity.

The Prolonged Psychological Fallout and Psychiatric Implications

The intersection of sustained verbal abuse and physical intimidation creates a toxic environment that severely disrupts cognitive and emotional development, particularly in children and adolescents. Fariadi detailed a comprehensive catalog of psychological pathologies stemming from prolonged peer victimization.

Initially, victims frequently manifest acute anxiety, chronic sadness, persistent insomnia, loss of appetite, low self-esteem, and severe paranoia. Over time, unaddressed trauma frequently solidifies into Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Victims of PTSD experience intrusive, repetitive memories, recurring nightmares, severe sleep disturbances, and debilitating flashbacks of the abusive episodes.

Furthermore, the psychological toll alters cognitive processing and mood regulation. Victims often develop severe emotional volatility, internal defense mechanisms characterized by hyper-isolation, and a total withdrawal from social engagement. This social alienation impedes essential communication skills, making normal interpersonal interactions with peers and family members extraordinarily difficult. In extreme scenarios, victims develop profound social phobias, pervasive mistrust of community networks, and clinical paranoia.

Fariadi issued a stern warning regarding the long-term prognosis of untreated trauma: without timely, specialized psychiatric intervention, chronic bullying victims face a heightened risk of developing severe mental health disorders, potentially culminating in conditions recognized clinically as severe psychological impairment (ODGJ – Orang Dengan Gangguan Jiwa).

The somatic manifestations of psychological distress are equally alarming. Clinical data indicates that chronic victims frequently present with stress-induced medical complaints, including persistent tension headaches, migraines, gastrointestinal disorders, and psychosomatic illnesses that elude straightforward biological diagnoses.

Institutional Implications and the Urgent Need for Preventative Action

The comprehensive analysis published by Suara Muhammadiyah serves as an urgent wake-up call for educational institutions, policymakers, religious leaders, and parents alike. Because bullying touches upon fundamental human rights and psychological well-being, passive observations or institutional cover-ups are no longer ethically or legally defensible.

From a sociological and public health perspective, addressing peer victimization requires a multi-layered preventative strategy. Schools and Islamic boarding institutions must implement zero-tolerance policies, robust reporting mechanisms that protect whistleblowers, and mandatory mental health literacy programs for both students and faculty. Concurrently, parents and community leaders must cultivate environments of open communication, ensuring that children possess the emotional vocabulary to articulate distress before it cascades into clinical trauma.

Fariadi concluded his analysis by emphasizing that eradicating bullying is a shared societal obligation. By integrating modern psychological safeguards with the timeless ethical imperatives found within prophetic traditions, communities can construct a protective framework that preserves human dignity, ensures psychological safety, and halts the generational cycle of peer abuse.

Bahaya Sifat Dengki Menurut Imam Al-Ghazali

by Rifan Muazin
written by Rifan Muazin

In the landscape of moral psychology and spiritual health, few ailments are as insidious as envy, known in Islamic tradition as hasad. Unlike physiological illnesses that manifest through fever or physical degradation, this condition operates silently within the human heart. It remains undetectable by medical diagnostics, yet its presence profoundly alters how individuals perceive their peers, communities, and their own place in the world. Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali, the preeminent 11th-century philosopher and theologian, categorized this phenomenon as one of the most destructive forces capable of dismantling individual well-being and social cohesion.

At its core, hasad is defined as a deep-seated resentment toward the success or blessings enjoyed by others, often accompanied by a fervent desire for those blessings to be stripped away from the recipient. This sentiment frequently emerges in professional environments, social circles, or even among family members. Whether it is a colleague receiving a long-awaited promotion, a neighbor acquiring a new home, or a peer gaining public recognition, the envious heart often masks its turmoil behind a thin veil of civility. Beneath the surface, however, the question "Why them and not me?" acts as a catalyst for a cycle of chronic dissatisfaction.

The Theological Framework of Hasad

Imam al-Ghazali provided a clinical dissection of this spiritual malaise in his magnum opus, Ihya’ ‘Ulumiddin (The Revival of the Religious Sciences). In Volume III, page 189, he outlines the fundamental dynamics of how envy interacts with human nature. According to al-Ghazali, when one witnesses a peer receiving a blessing from God, two distinct psychological states can arise.

The first state is characterized by malice: the individual detests the blessing and actively wishes for its disappearance. This is the essence of hasad. It is not merely the aspiration for similar success, but an active, negative yearning for another’s loss. The second state, which al-Ghazali distinguishes from envy, is the desire to possess a similar blessing without wishing for the other person to lose it. In Islamic ethics, this is known as ghibta, or positive emulation, which is considered a legitimate and even healthy motivation for personal growth. The distinction is critical: hasad seeks to subtract from others, while ghibta seeks to add to oneself.

Historical Context and the Roots of Discord

The narrative of envy is not merely a modern social struggle; it is deeply embedded in the theological history of humanity. Chroniclers of moral history, including Murtadha al-Zabidi in his work Ithaf al-Sadat al-Muttaqin, have noted that envy is often cited as the first sin committed in the history of creation.

Bahaya Sifat Dengki Menurut Imam Al-Ghazali

The primary example cited by scholars is the fall of Iblis (Satan). According to these traditions, Iblis’s refusal to honor the creation of Adam was not a lack of knowledge regarding the Divine, but an intense, burning envy over the honor and status bestowed upon humanity. This act of disobedience serves as the ultimate cautionary tale: envy is the precursor to rebellion.

Further, the conflict between Cain and Abel—the sons of Adam—is often analyzed through the lens of hasad. When one brother’s offering was accepted and the other’s was not, the resulting resentment escalated into the first act of homicide in human history. This historical trajectory highlights that envy is rarely contained within the mind; it inevitably spills over into behavior, damaging social fabrics and fracturing relationships.

The Socio-Psychological Impact

Modern sociological research on "social comparison theory" aligns with these ancient observations. Psychologists have long noted that individuals who engage in frequent "upward social comparison"—the act of measuring one’s own worth against those perceived to be better off—often experience significantly higher rates of anxiety, depression, and cognitive dissonance.

When an individual makes their own contentment contingent upon the misfortune of others, they enter a state of perpetual instability. As al-Ghazali observed, the envious person is the first victim of their own malice. While the person being envied may continue to thrive, the envious individual remains locked in a cycle of agitation, constantly monitoring the successes of others to the detriment of their own productivity and peace of mind.

This preoccupation with others’ blessings creates a "zero-sum" worldview, where one assumes that another’s gain is their own loss. This mindset ignores the abundance of opportunities and the diversity of talents that define human society. When a person becomes obsessed with the success of others, they lose the capacity to identify and cultivate their own unique virtues, effectively stagnating their personal and professional development.

Clinical and Spiritual Implications

The Quran explicitly addresses this phenomenon in Surah al-Nisa, verse 54: "Or do they envy the people for what Allah has given them of His bounty?" This passage underscores that the root of hasad is a fundamental questioning of Divine distribution. When a person harbors deep-seated resentment, they are, in effect, expressing a lack of trust in the equitable nature of their own circumstances.

Bahaya Sifat Dengki Menurut Imam Al-Ghazali

The spiritual consequences, as outlined in traditional jurisprudence and moral philosophy, are severe. The Prophet Muhammad is recorded in Sunan Abu Dawud as having warned his followers: "Beware of envy, for envy devours good deeds just as fire devours firewood." This metaphor is particularly potent: just as a blazing fire consumes dry timber until nothing remains but ash, the habit of envy gradually erodes the merit of an individual’s altruistic actions. If one is known for charity but simultaneously harbors a heart full of malice, the spiritual integrity of their actions is compromised.

The Path Toward Remediation

Mitigating the influence of envy requires a deliberate, cognitive shift. Practitioners of moral psychology and religious scholars suggest several practical steps to counteract these tendencies:

  1. Reframing the Narrative: Instead of asking, "Why did they get that?", one should transition to asking, "What can I learn from their success?" or "What actions did they take that I can emulate?"
  2. Cultivating Gratitude: Gratitude acts as a psychological buffer against envy. By focusing on one’s own unique blessings, the perceived "lack" that drives envy is diminished.
  3. Intellectual Honesty: Acknowledging that one does not see the "full picture" of another person’s life. Often, what appears to be a total blessing from the outside may be accompanied by hidden hardships, burdens, or responsibilities that the observer is unaware of.
  4. Community Building: Engaging in genuine acts of well-wishing. Research suggests that active efforts to congratulate others on their achievements can retrain the brain to view others’ successes as collective gains rather than personal threats.

Broader Societal Implications

In an age of hyper-connectivity and social media, the platforms through which we view others’ lives are curated to highlight only the "best" moments. This digital environment has exacerbated the propensity for hasad, as individuals are bombarded with constant streams of others’ achievements, lifestyles, and milestones.

The societal impact is a rise in competitive alienation. When communities are driven by envy rather than cooperation, the collective potential for innovation and mutual support decreases. Organizations, families, and nations that prioritize collaboration over competition tend to demonstrate higher levels of resilience and long-term success.

Conclusion

The teachings of Imam al-Ghazali remain as relevant today as they were in the 11th century. By identifying envy not merely as a personality flaw but as a corrosive spiritual and psychological illness, individuals can begin the work of purging it from their lives. The transition from a state of envy to a state of contentment is not instantaneous; it requires consistent practice, self-reflection, and a conscious choice to view the success of others as a reflection of the richness of human potential rather than a threat to one’s own standing.

Ultimately, the remedy for hasad lies in the realization that human life is not a singular, narrow track where one person’s win necessitates another’s loss. By broadening the perspective to include the vast, varied, and individualistic paths that human beings take, one can transform the bitterness of envy into the fuel for self-improvement and genuine, outward-reaching success.

Guyon Zulhas ke Ketum Parpol Pak Bahlil dan Saya Nggak Nyapres Pak Muhaimin Masih Mikir-mikir

by Reynand Wu
written by Reynand Wu

The atmosphere at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) in Senayan reached a peak of political camaraderie on Friday, September 18, 2026, as the National Mandate Party (PAN) celebrated its 28th anniversary. Amidst a room filled with the nation’s political elite, the Chairman of PAN, Zulkifli Hasan—widely known as Zulhas—delivered a speech that masterfully blended serious party posturing with lighthearted political banter. While the event was intended to commemorate nearly three decades of PAN’s existence, it also served as a strategic platform to reinforce the party’s alignment within the current governing coalition, specifically signaling unwavering support for President Prabowo Subianto.

The Dynamics of Political Banter at the 28th Anniversary

Zulhas, who currently serves as a prominent figure in the cabinet, utilized his keynote address to engage with fellow party leaders in attendance. The highlight of his address occurred when he directly addressed Bahlil Lahadalia, the Chairman of the Golkar Party. In a moment that drew laughter and applause from the audience, Zulhas touched upon the perceived burdens of leadership.

"Mr. Bahlil, being a party chairman is quite a heavy task. Leading a party is demanding, and the presidency is even more so. I believe Mr. Bahlil and I are in agreement that we should leave the presidency to Mr. Prabowo, right? Does that sound appropriate?" Zulhas remarked, prompting an immediate nod and verbal confirmation from Bahlil.

The interaction was not merely a comedic interlude; it served as a symbolic public reaffirmation of the coalition’s unity. By explicitly stating that neither he nor Bahlil—both leaders of influential parties—had ambitions for the upcoming presidential cycle, Zulhas effectively neutralized rumors of internal competition within the coalition. The inclusion of Muhaimin Iskandar, the Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), into the jest added a layer of political theater. Zulhas lightheartedly suggested that while he and Bahlil had opted out of the presidential race, Muhaimin appeared to be "still pondering" his options. This remark, while playful, underscores the complex and often fluid nature of coalition politics in Indonesia, where leadership ambitions are carefully managed to maintain stability.

Historical Context: PAN’s Evolution and Strategic Alliances

The 28th anniversary of PAN is a significant milestone for a party that has navigated various shifts in Indonesia’s democratic landscape since its formation in the late 1990s. Born out of the Reformasi movement, PAN has evolved from a grassroots reformist vehicle into a pragmatic political entity capable of securing key ministerial positions and maintaining influence across multiple administrations.

Throughout its 28-year history, the party has learned that longevity in Indonesian politics often requires strategic alignment. The current era, characterized by the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, has seen PAN position itself as a core pillar of support. By emphasizing that the party remains "firmly with Prabowo," Zulhas is reinforcing a narrative of continuity. This strategy is essential for a party that relies on its presence within the executive branch to drive its policy agenda, particularly in areas like trade and economic development, which have historically been the party’s focus.

Political Stability and the Coalition Framework

The current Indonesian political landscape is defined by a "big tent" coalition model. The presence of leaders from diverse parties at the PAN anniversary celebration highlights the consolidation of power around the administration. Analysts suggest that such public displays of unity—even those framed as jokes—are calculated to prevent market uncertainty and internal political friction.

Guyon Zulhas ke Ketum Parpol: Pak Bahlil dan Saya Nggak Nyapres, Pak Muhaimin Masih Mikir-mikir

The declaration by Zulhas regarding his lack of presidential ambition is a strategic signal to the party base and the public. In a country where presidential contenders often begin campaigning years in advance, publicly withdrawing from the race helps to stabilize expectations and allows the party to focus its resources on legislative goals and provincial elections. This approach minimizes the "lame duck" effect and allows for a more cohesive legislative environment in the House of Representatives (DPR).

Broader Implications for the 2029 Political Cycle

While the 2026 event was focused on the present, the underlying themes pointed toward the future of the 2029 electoral cycle. The mention of Muhaimin Iskandar’s "pondering" reflects the reality that for parties like PKB, which possess a strong and loyal constituency, the decision to commit to a presidential path is a complex calculation involving electoral thresholds and coalition bargaining power.

Data from recent political surveys indicate that public sentiment remains sensitive to the economic performance of the current administration. For PAN, the priority is to ensure that the economic reforms initiated under the current term bear fruit. By aligning closely with the incumbent president, the party ties its electoral success to the performance of the government. If the administration succeeds, the party benefits from the "coattail effect"; if it falters, the party risks being associated with the disappointment.

The Role of Party Chairmen in Modern Indonesian Governance

The prominence of party chairmen like Zulkifli Hasan and Bahlil Lahadalia highlights a unique aspect of Indonesian politics: the "Ketum" (General Chairman) model. Unlike in some parliamentary systems where party leadership is subject to frequent internal elections, Indonesian political parties often revolve around the strong personalities and long-term control of their chairmen. This concentration of power allows for rapid decision-making within the coalition but also makes the party’s direction heavily dependent on the personal relationships between these leaders.

The camaraderie displayed in Senayan is a testament to the effectiveness of these personal ties. When leaders can manage disagreements or conflicting ambitions through humor and public displays of solidarity, the risk of volatile political shifts is significantly reduced. However, this also raises questions about the depth of ideological differences within the coalition. Critics often argue that such cohesion comes at the expense of a robust, critical opposition, which is vital for a healthy democratic system.

Looking Ahead: The Path Toward 2029

As the anniversary celebrations conclude, the focus for PAN shifts back to its legislative and administrative duties. The "joke" regarding the presidential race has successfully set a tone of stability. Moving forward, the political class will be watching to see how the "still pondering" candidates eventually align themselves.

The political environment in Indonesia is known for its late-stage maneuvers. While current rhetoric suggests a consolidated support for the status quo, the history of Indonesian elections suggests that alliances can shift rapidly once the formal nomination process approaches. For now, PAN’s strategy remains clear: provide consistent support to the current administration, leverage its position in the cabinet to deliver tangible results for its constituents, and maintain open, friendly, yet guarded relationships with other political power brokers.

The event at JICC serves as a microcosm of the current state of Indonesian politics—a blend of serious institutional governance and the nuanced, often indirect communication style that keeps the machinery of the nation’s political elite functioning. By navigating these waters with a mix of humor and strategic clarity, Zulkifli Hasan continues to cement PAN’s role as an indispensable actor in the ongoing narrative of Indonesia’s democratic journey. Whether these lighthearted comments will indeed translate into a long-term, stable political roadmap remains to be seen, but for the moment, the message of unity has been clearly received by the political audience.

The landscape of Indonesian football experienced a surge of intense media attention throughout Friday, September 18, 2026, with the national team capturing the overwhelming majority of public interest. Centered around the strategic maneuvers of head coach John Herdman, the latest announcements regarding the 23-man squad for the upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 have galvanized fans and pundits alike. Alongside international roster confirmations—highlighted by a heavy influx of overseas-based talents and a high-profile debut—domestic developments involving heavyweights Persib Bandung and Persija Jakarta further fueled a dynamic news cycle within the country’s sporting sphere.

As the official tournament window for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 approaches, running from September 25 to October 5, 2026, anticipation has reached a fever pitch. The dual focus on elite international selection and rigorous domestic disciplinary actions has created a multifaceted narrative for football enthusiasts across the archipelago.

Strategic Selection: John Herdman Unveils the 23-Man Squad for FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026

Head coach John Herdman officially released his final 23-player roster on Friday, September 18, 2026, showcasing a formidable blend of Europe-based professionals, rising stars from Australia and the United States, and dependable stalwarts from the domestic league. This carefully curated squad reflects the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) and the coaching staff’s absolute commitment to making a profound impact at the upcoming regional championship.

The selected group features a robust contingent of established names who have consistently formed the backbone of the Garuda squad in recent years. Among the prominent figures returning to the national fold are defensive anchors Kevin Diks, Dean James, Elkan Baggott, and Justin Hubner. The midfield and attacking departments are similarly bolstered by the inclusion of versatile operators such as Nathan Tjoe-A-On, Calvin Verdonk, Joey Pelupessy, Thom Haye, Ole Romeny, and Ragnar Oratmangoen.

Herdman’s tactical vision heavily relies on the technical superiority, tactical discipline, and high-intensity match experience acquired by these players within competitive foreign leagues. By blending this global expertise with top-tier domestic talent, Indonesia aims to project a cohesive and dominant presence on the ASEAN stage.

Luke Vickery Earns Maiden Call-Up and Historic Debut

Among the most talked-about inclusions in Herdman’s 23-man roster is the integration of 12 overseas-based players, spearheaded by the sensational inclusion of young forward Luke Vickery. The Macarthur FC attacker has officially received his first-ever senior national team call-up, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning professional career.

Vickery, born in Kailua, Hawaii, United States, on October 25, 2005, qualifies to represent Indonesia through his Indonesian mother. His performances in Australia’s top-flight league had previously placed him firmly on the radar of PSSI scouts and the national team coaching staff. With Herdman officially naming him in the final squad, the young forward is poised to make his much-anticipated international debut during the tournament, adding a dynamic, unpredictable attacking edge to the Garuda frontline.

Vickery’s integration into the national team underscores PSSI’s ongoing strategy to identify and secure elite dual-national talents across the globe, ensuring the squad maintains long-term competitiveness across various age groups and senior international competitions.

Domestic Turbulence: Komdis PSSI Imposes Strict Sanctions on Persija Jakarta

While the national team preparations dominated the broader sporting consciousness, domestic football faced a stern disciplinary intervention. The Disciplinary Committee of the PSSI (Komdis PSSI) officially announced heavy sanctions against the Organizing Committee (Panpel) of Persija Jakarta following a high-stakes BRI Super League 2026/2027 fixture against arch-rivals Persib Bandung.

The match, which took place at the iconic Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Saturday, September 12, 2026, was marred by spectator misconduct and security breaches that prompted a formal investigation by football authorities. According to the official ruling issued via Komdis PSSI’s disciplinary decree, Persija’s match organizers have been penalized heavily for failing to maintain adequate order and safety protocols during the high-profile encounter.

Consequently, Persija Jakarta’s Panpel has been barred from organizing two consecutive home matches within three specific administrative territories: DKI Jakarta, Banten, and West Java. In addition to the stadium ban, which forces the club to seek alternative neutral venues well outside their traditional stronghold, the club was handed a substantial financial penalty of Rp40 million for multiple counts of disciplinary infractions.

Broader Implications for Indonesian Football

The events of mid-September 2026 highlight a critical juncture for Indonesian football, characterized by simultaneous ambitions on the international stage and ongoing regulatory challenges at the domestic level.

On one hand, the national team’s meticulous preparation under John Herdman for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 demonstrates a professionalization of the sport. written by Nila Kartika Wati

The upcoming Derby Madrid between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid stands as the centerpiece of the 2026-2027 LaLiga season, with the two Spanish giants set to face off at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano this Sunday, September 20, 2026. This high-stakes encounter, which will be broadcast live via VISION+, carries immense weight as both clubs navigate a tightly contested early-season table. As the capital city prepares for its most anticipated fixture, the narrative surrounding the match is defined by Real Madrid’s attempt to solidify their position at the summit of the standings and Atletico Madrid’s ambition to bridge the narrow two-point gap currently separating the rivals.

The Strategic Context of the Derby

For Atletico Madrid, the match at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano is more than just a local grudge match; it is a vital opportunity to assert their title credentials. Under the stewardship of Diego Simeone, the Rojiblancos have accumulated 13 points from their opening six fixtures, maintaining a disciplined record of four victories, one draw, and one defeat. A win on home soil would not only see them leapfrog their city rivals in the table but would also serve as a psychological statement of intent for the remainder of the campaign.

Conversely, Real Madrid arrives at the Metropolitano with a superior, though recently scrutinized, form. With 15 points from their first six games, Los Blancos occupy the second position in the league. Despite their favorable standing, the atmosphere surrounding the club has been tense. Recent performances, including a narrow and dramatic victory over Elche, have drawn criticism from the fanbase, particularly regarding the output of marquee stars like Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior. The pressure to deliver a convincing display in the derby has arguably never been higher for Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Historical Rivalry and Modern Stakes

The rivalry between Atletico and Real Madrid—the El Derbi Madrileño—is steeped in decades of tradition, often representing more than just footballing supremacy. Historically, it reflects the social and cultural identity of the city. While Real Madrid has long been associated with the institutional establishment, Atletico has maintained a reputation as the resilient, working-class heart of Madrid.

In recent years, the competitive gap between the two has narrowed significantly. Simeone’s transformation of Atletico into a defensive juggernaut capable of absorbing pressure and striking on the counter-attack has frequently frustrated Real Madrid’s star-studded lineups. This weekend’s match is expected to be a tactical chess match. Ancelotti will look to utilize the pace of his attacking transition, while Simeone will likely seek to congest the midfield, force turnovers, and leverage the fervent atmosphere of the Metropolitano to disrupt the rhythm of his opponents.

Chronology of the 2026-2027 Season

The 2026-2027 season began with high expectations for both Madrid clubs. Real Madrid’s summer recruitment, designed to consolidate their dominance, has faced early tests. Their recent fixture against Elche, which was saved only by a last-minute goal from Carlos Espi, highlighted a vulnerability in their ability to break down defensive blocks—a weakness that Atletico Madrid is notoriously adept at exploiting.

For Atletico, the season has been characterized by consistency. Their ability to secure points even when not playing at their peak has kept them within striking distance of the leaders. The following timeline outlines the trajectory leading up to this Sunday:

Jadwal dan Link Live Streaming Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid, Derby Panas di Akhir Pekan
  • August 2026: The season opener saw both teams secure vital points, with Real Madrid establishing early dominance in the goal-scoring charts.
  • Early September 2026: Atletico Madrid solidified their defensive structure, conceding fewer goals than in previous early-season campaigns.
  • September 16, 2026: Fans expressed public frustration following Real Madrid’s narrow win over Elche, labeling the performance "embarrassing" and calling for increased intensity from the squad’s leaders.
  • September 20, 2026: Scheduled date for the first major Derby Madrid of the season at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Tactical Analysis: What to Expect on Sunday

Tactically, the match will likely hinge on the battle in the center of the pitch. Real Madrid, typically playing in a fluid 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation, relies on the creative genius of their midfield trio to feed the front line. However, the scrutiny placed on Mbappé and Vinícius means that any failure to convert early chances will likely lead to increased tension within the team.

Atletico Madrid, favoring a compact 5-3-2 or 3-5-2, will aim to neutralize these threats. By forcing play wide and relying on the defensive versatility of their wing-backs, they can effectively stifle Real Madrid’s attempts to play through the center. The key for Atletico will be the efficiency of their transition—turning defensive stops into rapid counter-attacks that exploit the space left by Real Madrid’s high defensive line.

Official Responses and Club Atmosphere

While official statements from both clubs remain standard ahead of high-profile matches, internal reports suggest a high level of urgency. Sources close to Real Madrid indicate that Ancelotti has held multiple closed-door meetings to address the disconnect between his attackers and the rest of the squad. The message is clear: the derby is an opportunity for redemption.

Diego Simeone, ever the pragmatist, has emphasized the need for "collective sacrifice" during his recent press briefings. He understands that while the media focuses on the star power of the opposition, the derby is traditionally won by the team that controls the emotional intensity of the game. Atletico’s captain and leadership group have reportedly called on the home fans to create a "pressure cooker" environment that makes communication difficult for the visiting Real Madrid players.

Implications for the LaLiga Title Race

The broader impact of this fixture cannot be understated. With Barcelona maintaining a strong presence at the top of the table, neither Madrid club can afford to drop points if they intend to keep pace in what is shaping up to be a three-horse race. A draw would benefit the Catalan side, while a win for either side would provide significant momentum heading into the autumn months.

Should Atletico Madrid secure a victory, they would not only claim the bragging rights of the city but also announce themselves as a legitimate, undisputed title challenger. A loss, however, would force them to recalibrate their season goals early on. For Real Madrid, a defeat would trigger a period of intense media scrutiny and potentially spark internal debates regarding the tactical direction of the project under Ancelotti.

Technical Viewing Information

The match is scheduled to kick off on Sunday evening, providing a primetime showcase for the world’s most passionate football fans. International viewers and local supporters alike are encouraged to access the match through the official VISION+ live streaming platform. As the game approaches, analysts suggest that the first fifteen minutes will be critical; a quick goal for either side would likely force the opponent to abandon their defensive plan, leading to a more open and aggressive encounter.

In conclusion, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano will serve as the stage for a pivotal moment in the 2026-2027 LaLiga season. With two points separating the rivals and the weight of public expectation bearing down on both squads, Sunday’s match is set to be a defining event. Whether it becomes a tactical stalemate or an explosive display of offensive talent remains to be seen, but the stakes ensure that the Derby Madrid will remain at the forefront of the footballing world this weekend. The global audience will be watching closely to see if the status quo holds or if the capital’s power balance is set to shift.

Beyond Price Tags: The Complex Ecosystem and Manufacturing Challenges Facing Indonesia’s Domestic Electric Motorcycle Industry

by Nila Kartika Wati
written by Nila Kartika Wati

Jakarta – The rapid evolution of the electric motorcycle industry in Indonesia has brought to light a multifaceted set of challenges that extend far beyond initial retail pricing. While affordability remains a primary consideration for prospective buyers navigating the transition from internal combustion engines to battery-powered alternatives, industry stakeholders emphasize that long-term market viability depends on navigating a complex web of technological, logistical, and consumer-centric hurdles. Locally produced and assembled electric two-wheelers must contend with stringent supply chain demands, battery technology advancements, the establishment of robust service networks, and the cultivation of consumer trust.

As the government pushes toward ambitious net-zero emission targets and green economic frameworks, the domestic automotive landscape finds itself at a critical juncture. The transition requires a synchronized approach where manufacturing capabilities, infrastructure development, and regulatory frameworks evolve in tandem. Industry experts note that the success of electric vehicles (EVs) in the world’s fourth-most populous nation cannot rely solely on the rollout of new models; it demands a comprehensive, resilient ecosystem capable of supporting consumers throughout the entire lifecycle of their vehicles.

The Core Pillars of Consumer Hesitation

When consumers evaluate electric motorcycles, price is frequently the initial filter, but purchase decisions are increasingly dictated by practical utility and long-term operating costs. Key factors influencing consumer adoption include real-world riding range, the accessibility and speed of charging infrastructure, the availability of replacement parts, comprehensive after-sales support, and predictable total cost of ownership over several years of operation.

Range anxiety remains a persistent psychological and practical barrier for urban and suburban commuters alike. Coupled with concerns over battery degradation over time, buyers demand clear, transparent data regarding how power cells perform under tropical weather conditions and heavy daily usage. Furthermore, the absence of standardized charging protocols across different brands has historically complicated the infrastructure landscape, prompting manufacturers to invest heavily in proprietary or semi-standardized support networks.

Another critical determinant of consumer confidence is the resale value of electric motorcycles. Unlike traditional motorcycles, which possess a well-established second-hand market with transparent valuation metrics, electric vehicles lack historical pricing benchmarks. Consumers require assurances regarding battery lifespan, warranty terms, and the residual value of the vehicle once it reaches the secondary market. Addressing these concerns requires concerted educational campaigns and transparent product guarantees from manufacturers and authorized dealers alike.

Building a Robust After-Sales Service Infrastructure

The expansion of the electric motorcycle market is inextricably linked to the development of extensive service networks. Unlike conventional motorcycles, which can be serviced by virtually any independent neighborhood mechanic, electric motorcycles feature high-voltage electrical systems, specialized controllers, and proprietary software that necessitate trained technicians and specialized diagnostic tools.

Recognizing this reality, leading automotive groups operating within the Indonesian market have prioritized the rapid deployment of authorized dealerships and service centers. A wider geographical distribution of service outlets ensures that consumers can easily access routine maintenance, software updates, and prompt component replacements without facing prolonged vehicle downtime. This infrastructure investment serves as a vital anchor for consumer trust, signaling that the manufacturer is committed to long-term support rather than merely capitalizing on short-term sales trends.

The Battery Challenge: Sourcing, Technology, and Cost Dynamics

At the heart of every electric motorcycle lies the battery pack, which simultaneously serves as its most critical technological asset and its most expensive single component. The cost of lithium-ion or alternative chemistry battery cells directly dictates the final retail price of the vehicle, while its capacity dictates the operational range.

For the domestic manufacturing sector, securing a stable supply of high-quality battery cells remains a strategic imperative. While Indonesia boasts vast reserves of nickel—a critical mineral for electric vehicle battery production—the domestic refining capacity and localized cell-manufacturing ecosystem are still maturing. Consequently, local assemblers must balance the integration of advanced battery management systems (BMS) with the imperative to maximize the domestic component content level, known locally as Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri (TKDN).

Navigating Supply Chain Localization and TKDN Mandates

The Indonesian government has established rigorous regulatory frameworks designed to bolster domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imported components. For electric vehicle manufacturers, achieving high TKDN percentages is not only a regulatory compliance measure but also a strategic advantage that unlocks government incentives, institutional fleet contracts, and consumer subsidies.

Strengthening the local supply chain requires collaboration across various tiers of manufacturing, ranging from chassis fabrication and electric motor production to wiring harness assembly and software development. By gradually increasing the utilization of locally sourced parts, domestic players can insulate themselves against global supply chain disruptions, foreign exchange volatility, and international shipping bottlenecks. This localization drive also fosters technology transfer and skill development within the domestic workforce, laying a strong foundation for Indonesia to emerge as a regional hub for electric vehicle production.

The Indomobil eMotor Initiative: A Case Study in Ecosystem Integration

Addressing these diverse challenges requires a holistic strategy championed by industry leaders. A notable example of this comprehensive approach is evident in the strategic roadmap implemented by PT Indomobil Emotor Internasional through its dedicated brand, Indomobil eMotor.

Pius Wirawan, CEO of PT Indomobil Emotor Internasional, underscored that the development of the electric vehicle segment must transcend the mere introduction of standalone products. According to Wirawan, long-term success relies on synchronized advancement across multiple fronts.

"For us, the development of electric vehicles must operate as a cohesive ecosystem," Wirawan stated. "Therefore, we continuously strengthen products tailored to the mobility needs of the community, increase the contribution of domestic industries, and expand our service network so that electric vehicles are increasingly accepted and utilized in daily activities."

This philosophy was recently underscored when the Indomobil eMotor Sprinto garnered recognition at the 2026 Green Economy Awards. The vehicle’s development reflects the practical application of localization policies, being assembled domestically at the PT National Assemblers facility located in Cakung, East Jakarta. Crucially, the model achieved a 50 percent TKDN certification, demonstrating a tangible commitment to national industrial integration.

Furthermore, to address the critical need for after-sales support and consumer accessibility, Indomobil eMotor has established a vast operational footprint comprising 155 official dealerships distributed across various regions of Indonesia. This expansive network is specifically designed to guarantee seamless access to scheduled maintenance, genuine spare parts, and comprehensive warranty services.

Implications and Future Outlook for the Indonesian EV Landscape

The trajectory of Indonesia’s electric motorcycle industry over the coming decade will largely be determined by how effectively public and private sector stakeholders collaborate to overcome structural impediments. The transition from internal combustion engines to electric mobility represents a profound paradigm shift that impacts energy security, industrial policy, urban planning, and environmental sustainability.

From an economic perspective, the growth of the domestic EV manufacturing sector holds the potential to generate high-skilled employment, stimulate regional economic activity, and attract foreign direct investment into advanced manufacturing and green technologies. However, realization of these benefits hinges on consistent regulatory support, continued investment in charging infrastructure, and proactive measures to make financing more accessible for both individual consumers and commercial fleet operators.

As manufacturers continue to refine their product offerings, future market trends are expected to focus heavily on battery innovation, faster charging capabilities, and enhanced digital connectivity features. The ability of local brands to compete not only on price, but on build quality, reliability, and comprehensive ecosystem support, will determine their staying power in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Ultimately, the maturation of Indonesia’s domestic electric motorcycle industry will be measured by its ability to instill absolute confidence in the consumer base. By addressing infrastructural gaps, enhancing local supply chain resilience, and ensuring transparent, customer-centric after-sales care, industry pioneers are laying the groundwork for a cleaner, more sustainable future of transportation across the archipelago.

Perindo Secretary General Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah Emphasizes Strategic Synergy with PAN on 28th Anniversary

by Layla Zulfa
written by Layla Zulfa

In a significant display of inter-party camaraderie, the Secretary General of the Perindo Party, Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah, officially extended warm congratulations to the National Mandate Party (PAN) on the occasion of its 28th anniversary. The event, held on the evening of Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) in Senayan, Jakarta, served as a platform for political discourse regarding the future of national collaboration. As PAN commemorates nearly three decades of existence, Perindo has signaled a strong intent to deepen ties, particularly concerning humanitarian initiatives and grassroots economic empowerment.

The Significance of the 28th Anniversary

The 28th anniversary of PAN is a milestone that marks the party’s longevity within the Indonesian democratic landscape. Founded in the wake of the 1998 Reformation, PAN has consistently positioned itself as a major player in the nation’s political trajectory. For the 2026 celebration, the party adopted the theme "Bantu Rakyat Gerak Cepat" (Helping the People, Moving Fast), a slogan that reflects a commitment to agility in addressing socioeconomic challenges.

Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah, representing the Perindo leadership, attended the gala to underscore the shared values between the two organizations. He noted that the theme chosen by PAN is remarkably aligned with the fundamental vision of the Perindo Party, which prioritizes the welfare of the ordinary citizen and the pursuit of a more equitable economic climate. According to Ferry, the resonance between these two parties is not merely coincidental but reflects a broader understanding of the urgent needs of the Indonesian public in the current post-pandemic and global economic recovery era.

Chronology of PAN’s Political Journey

To understand the weight of this 28th-anniversary celebration, one must look at the historical timeline of PAN. Born from the reformist fervor that ended the New Order regime, the party was established on August 23, 1998. Since its inception, PAN has navigated numerous electoral cycles, forming coalitions that have shaped executive and legislative branches of the government.

  1. 1998–2004: The formative years of PAN, marked by its role as a reformist entity that championed democratization and civil society empowerment.
  2. 2004–2014: A period of institutional consolidation where PAN played a central role in several cabinet compositions, contributing to the development of national policy frameworks.
  3. 2014–2024: A decade characterized by shifts in coalition politics, where the party balanced its ideological roots with the pragmatic demands of national governance.
  4. 2026: The current milestone, where the party is emphasizing "rapid action" as a response to persistent inflation and the digital transformation of the national economy.

The presence of high-profile political figures at the JICC event, including President Prabowo Subianto, who remarked on the importance of "loyal comrades in the struggle," emphasized that this anniversary was as much about political consolidation as it was about celebration.

Supporting Data and Socioeconomic Context

The urgency behind the "Bantu Rakyat Gerak Cepat" theme is supported by current economic indicators. With Indonesia aiming for a "Golden Indonesia 2045" vision, political parties are under increasing pressure to demonstrate tangible benefits for the public. Recent data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) suggests that while national growth remains stable, the challenge of household purchasing power persists due to global supply chain fluctuations.

Perindo’s alignment with this theme is indicative of a broader strategy. Perindo, which has historically focused on MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) and grassroots economic support, views its partnership with PAN as a vehicle to scale these initiatives. By pooling resources and legislative influence, both parties aim to implement policy interventions that simplify business licensing for small vendors and enhance digital literacy among rural populations.

Official Responses and Internal Perspectives

Speaking to the press after the ceremony, Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah articulated that his presence was a direct instruction from the Perindo Chairwoman. "I am here representing our Chairwoman to convey our deepest congratulations to PAN on their 28th anniversary. It is an extraordinary age, and PAN remains a pivotal party that truly embodies the spirit of the reform era," Ferry stated.

Beyond the pleasantries, Ferry highlighted that Perindo’s policy is to remain "open to synergy with all political parties." He argued that the current climate of Indonesian politics demands that parties move past tribalism and focus on common denominators. "We are not here just to talk about power sharing. We are here to talk about being part of the solution for the people. Whether it is in democratic development, policy-making, or economic recovery, we are ready to work with PAN to ensure the state is present for the citizens," he added.

Political analysts suggest that such statements from Perindo represent a tactical shift. By proactively engaging with established parties like PAN, Perindo is positioning itself as a constructive bridge-builder in a parliament that often risks becoming polarized.

Broader Impact and Implications for 2026 and Beyond

The implications of this closer cooperation between Perindo and PAN are multifaceted:

1. Legislative Cooperation: In the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), the ability to push through populist legislation often requires a unified front. By aligning on the goal of "helping the people," the two parties can create a voting bloc that prioritizes social safety nets and economic subsidies, effectively pressuring other factions to follow suit.

2. Strengthening Democratic Climate: The willingness of parties to acknowledge each other’s successes and align on thematic issues contributes to a healthier democratic culture. It signals to the public that political parties are capable of collaborative governance rather than perpetual competition.

3. Economic Policy Focus: Both parties have indicated that the next phase of their collaboration will involve focusing on the "economic front." This likely means a push for legislative initiatives that support the "warung" economy and the digitalization of traditional markets. Given that MSMEs contribute over 60% of Indonesia’s GDP, any collaborative policy effort in this sector will have a significant macroeconomic impact.

4. Coalition Building: While it is premature to discuss the 2029 electoral coalitions, the rapport built between these parties during events like this is the foundation upon which future electoral alliances are constructed. The show of support at the JICC is a clear message to the political establishment that these two entities are keeping their options open for long-term strategic alignment.

A Future-Oriented Partnership

As the event at the JICC concluded, the prevailing sentiment was one of optimism regarding inter-party relations. The collaboration between Perindo and PAN represents a pragmatic approach to governance. In a nation as diverse and geographically sprawling as Indonesia, the ability of political parties to coordinate their efforts is essential for effective service delivery.

The commitment expressed by Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah is not merely a diplomatic formality. It reflects an evolving political landscape where the "reformist" identity of older parties like PAN and the "populist-grassroots" focus of newer entities like Perindo can find common ground. As both parties look toward the remainder of the current term, the success of their "synergy" will likely be measured by the tangible improvements in the lives of the citizens they claim to serve.

In summary, the 28th anniversary of PAN has served as more than just a celebratory event; it has acted as a catalyst for a renewed dialogue between political stakeholders. By prioritizing synergy over competition, and focusing on the urgent need to support the grassroots economy, Perindo and PAN have set a tone for the coming legislative sessions that favors collective problem-solving. Whether this leads to a formal coalition remains to be seen, but the intent to work together toward a more prosperous Indonesia is clear. As the political calendar moves forward, the synergy between these two parties will be an important indicator of the broader trends in the Indonesian parliamentary landscape, reflecting a move toward more integrated and action-oriented governance.

The Indonesian Automotive Component Market Remains Resilient Amidst the Gradual Transition to Electric Vehicles

by Suro Senen
written by Suro Senen

The Indonesian automotive sector is currently navigating a period of profound structural transformation as global trends push toward the electrification of transport. While the discourse surrounding the transition from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) often emphasizes rapid displacement, the reality on the ground—particularly within the Indonesian component manufacturing landscape—suggests a more nuanced and protracted evolution. Industry leaders and stakeholders, speaking ahead of the upcoming Automechanika 2026 exhibition in Jakarta, have highlighted that the aftermarket and manufacturing ecosystem for traditional components will retain significant value and relevance for the foreseeable future.

The Dynamics of Technological Transition in Indonesia

The shift toward electric mobility is a core pillar of Indonesia’s industrial strategy, supported by the government’s ambition to become a global hub for EV battery production and vehicle manufacturing. However, Yusak Kristian Solaeman, Chairman of GIIAM (Gabungan Industri Alat-alat Mobil dan Motor) and President Director of PT Astra Otoparts Tbk, suggests that the market’s transition will not be a sudden rupture but rather a gradual integration.

According to Solaeman, while it is true that a BEV features a significantly lower number of moving parts compared to an ICE vehicle—largely due to the elimination of complex systems like transmissions, fuel delivery, and exhaust components—the dominance of traditional engines is far from over. The geographic and infrastructural diversity of the Indonesian archipelago plays a crucial role in this persistence. In major metropolitan centers like Jakarta, the adoption of electric vehicles is incentivized by favorable policies and the gradual expansion of charging infrastructure. Conversely, in smaller cities and rural areas, the reliance on ICE vehicles remains absolute, driven by current infrastructure limitations and the established utility of conventional engines.

Understanding the Component Resilience Strategy

A critical aspect of the current industry dialogue is the distinction between "powertrain-specific" components and "shared" components. While the move to full battery-electric powertrains threatens the production demand for spark plugs, fuel injectors, and pistons, a vast array of components remains common to both ICE and EV platforms. These include braking systems, suspension components, interior modules, electronic control units (ECUs), and steering systems.

Pasar Komponen di Indonesia Dinilai Masih Menjanjikan di Tengah Serbuan Kendaraan Listrik

Furthermore, the industry is increasingly looking toward Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) as bridge technologies. These vehicles retain internal combustion engines, thereby ensuring a continued, long-term demand for traditional automotive parts. For manufacturers, this implies a dual-track strategy: investing in the research and development of EV-specific components while simultaneously maintaining the high-efficiency production lines that support the existing vehicle fleet.

Data and Market Context: The Road to 2026

The global automotive component market is undergoing a fundamental shift, with the market for EV-specific parts projected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of over 15% through 2030. However, in emerging markets like Indonesia, the "legacy" fleet remains the primary driver of aftermarket demand.

As of 2026, the density of vehicles per capita in Indonesia remains relatively low compared to regional peers, suggesting significant room for growth in the total addressable market for both ICE and EV sectors. Industry projections indicate that even by the mid-2030s, a significant percentage of vehicles on Indonesian roads will continue to rely on some form of internal combustion, whether through dedicated petrol engines or hybrid configurations. This longevity of the legacy fleet provides a buffer for manufacturers, allowing them the necessary time to pivot their capital expenditures toward new technologies without facing immediate financial instability.

Industry Dialogues and the Automechanika 2026 Perspective

The upcoming Automechanika 2026 in Jakarta serves as a barometer for these shifting tides. The event acts as a nexus for stakeholders, ranging from traditional tier-one suppliers to emerging innovators in the battery management and charging infrastructure space.

During recent industry dialogues held in anticipation of the event, the consensus was clear: the narrative of "ICE versus EV" is being replaced by a more pragmatic "integration" approach. Manufacturers are increasingly focused on "future-proofing" their businesses. This involves identifying which parts of their current portfolio are vulnerable to electrification and seeking opportunities to repurpose their manufacturing expertise for the EV value chain. For instance, a company specializing in metal stamping for chassis parts for ICE vehicles can transition seamlessly to producing structural components for EV battery packs.

Pasar Komponen di Indonesia Dinilai Masih Menjanjikan di Tengah Serbuan Kendaraan Listrik

Socio-Economic Implications of the Shift

The transformation of the automotive component industry carries broader economic implications for Indonesia. The automotive manufacturing sector is a massive employer, and the shift toward electrification creates both challenges and opportunities for the workforce.

  1. Upskilling Requirements: As the complexity of automotive systems shifts from mechanical to electronic, the workforce must be retrained to handle high-voltage battery systems and software-defined vehicle architectures.
  2. Supply Chain Localization: Indonesia’s focus on its nickel reserves to anchor the EV battery supply chain is intended to transition the country from a raw material exporter to a component manufacturer. This shift is designed to compensate for the potential loss of traditional ICE component manufacturing jobs by creating new ones in the EV sector.
  3. Regional Disparities: The transition will likely happen at different speeds across the archipelago. Policymakers face the challenge of ensuring that the shift toward green mobility does not leave behind regional markets that still depend on affordable, easily maintained combustion engines.

Analysis: Navigating the Transition

The resilience of the Indonesian component market is not merely a sign of inertia; it is a calculated response to the economic reality of the region. A complete transition to electric vehicles would require a massive, capital-intensive overhaul of the power grid, charging infrastructure, and consumer affordability models.

By prioritizing a "technology-neutral" approach—where hybrid systems and high-efficiency ICE vehicles are allowed to coexist with EVs—Indonesia is effectively hedging its risks. This strategy allows domestic manufacturers to maintain their export and domestic volume targets while incrementally adopting the technologies required for a sustainable future.

The focus for industry players in the coming years will be on operational agility. Companies that can maintain the quality and availability of legacy parts—essential for keeping the existing fleet on the road—while simultaneously securing partnerships in the EV ecosystem, are expected to emerge as the leaders of the next decade.

Conclusion

The future of the Indonesian automotive component market is characterized by a long-term, multi-layered transition. As stated by industry leaders, the death of the internal combustion engine is a distant prospect, particularly in the context of the vast, diverse Indonesian automotive landscape.

The industry is currently in a state of productive tension: balancing the immediate, high-volume demand for traditional parts with the strategic necessity of preparing for an electric future. As stakeholders gather for Automechanika 2026, the focus will not be on the rapid replacement of old technology, but on the systematic evolution of the automotive ecosystem. This transition will be defined by resilience, innovation, and a pragmatic understanding that the road to electrification is not a sprint, but a long-distance endeavor that requires careful navigation of both the old and the new.

Ultimately, the Indonesian automotive industry remains a vital engine of economic growth. By leveraging its established manufacturing base and embracing the technological shifts, the nation is well-positioned to maintain its status as a critical player in the global automotive supply chain, ensuring that the transition to electric mobility contributes to, rather than disrupts, national industrial stability.
