National Sports Day: Tracing Indonesia’s Athletic Legacy from the Historic 1948 Solo PON to Modern Health and Economic Pillars

by Sagoh
written by Sagoh

Every year on September 9th, Indonesia observesNational Sports Day, widely recognized as Hari Olahraga Nasional (Haornas). This significant annual commemoration serves as both a nostalgic look back at the nation’s athletic heritage and a forward-looking catalyst to encourage citizens to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines. Far beyond a mere ceremonial date on the calendar, Haornas encapsulates the indomitable spirit of a young, post-independence republic that sought to prove its sovereignty on the international stage through sport. As the nation prepares for the 43rd anniversary of its official proclamation in 2026, understanding the roots, evolution, and broader socio-economic implications of Haornas provides vital insight into how sports continue to shape the Indonesian identity.

The Historical Genesis: The First PON in Solo (1948)

The narrative of National Sports Day is inextricably linked to the birth of the National Games, known as Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON). The inaugural PON took place in Solo (Surakarta), Central Java, from September 9 to September 12, 1948. This monumental event occurred against a backdrop of immense geopolitical turbulence. Having declared independence on August 17, 1945, Indonesia was still locked in a fierce diplomatic and physical struggle to defend its sovereignty against colonial forces that sought to re-establish control.

During this precarious era, isolating the young republic economically and diplomatically was a primary strategy of the opposition. When Indonesian athletic authorities sought to participate in the XIV Olympic Games held in London in 1948, they encountered insurmountable administrative roadblocks. International governing bodies and colonial authorities refused to recognize the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOMITE OLYMPIQUE INDONESIE) or accept passports issued by the revolutionary government, insisting that Indonesian athletes compete under a colonial flag.

Refusing to compromise national dignity, visionary sports leaders, including Soeghondo Djojopoespito and Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX, rejected the humiliating ultimatum. Instead, they orchestrated an ambitious alternative: a domestic multi-sport event that would unify the archipelago and demonstrate to the world that an independent Indonesia possessed the administrative capability, social cohesion, and youthful vitality to organize a major international-standard sports festival.

The successful staging of the first PON in Solo became a powerful political and cultural statement. It proved that despite physical blockades and internal conflicts, the Indonesian spirit could not be easily contained. The opening day of this historic event—September 9—was permanently etched into the nation’s collective memory, eventually serving as the foundational date for National Sports Day.

Institutionalization and the 1983 Proclamation

While the spirit of Haornas was born in the trenches of the 1948 independence struggle, its formal institutionalization took more than three decades. The turning point occurred on September 9, 1983, when President Soeharto officially proclaimed National Sports Day during a ceremony marking the revitalization and restoration of the historic Sriwedari Stadium in Surakarta.

The 1983 proclamation was not merely symbolic; it represented a strategic shift in state policy toward mass physical fitness and elite athlete development. Recognizing that a healthy populace was fundamental to national development, the government sought to transition sports from an elite pastime into a nationwide movement.

To give this presidential proclamation legal force, the administration enacted Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 67 of 1985 concerning National Sports Day. This legal framework formally designated September 9 of each year as Haornas. The decree mandated systematic sports development programs across educational institutions, military branches, and civil service organizations, creating a structured pipeline that would eventually produce regional and global champions in badminton, weightlifting, and pencak silat.

The Modern Evolution and Economic Dimensions of Sport

In contemporary Indonesia, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) frames Haornas not just as a historical commemoration, but as an ongoing campaign for cultural transformation. Modern guidelines emphasize that the celebration must transcend the pursuit of medals and podium finishes. While international victories by athletes in arenas like the Olympic Games and Asian Games remain a source of immense national pride, the core philosophy of Haornas increasingly centers on public health, character building, discipline, and national unity.

In recent years, the mandate of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has expanded to encompass the burgeoning intersections between athletics, public health economics, and tourism. Government officials have increasingly emphasized that robust sports ecosystems generate significant multiplier effects across the national economy. From the manufacturing of athletic apparel and equipment to the hospitality sector driven by major competitions, sports have transformed into a major economic driver.

This economic integration is vividly demonstrated through the concept of "sport tourism," which combines athletic competition with destination marketing. Major multi-sport events like the upcoming National Games (PON), including specialized events like the upcoming Beach PON in Ancol and future regional showcases like PON 2028 in Sumba Timur, are explicitly designed to stimulate local economies, improve regional infrastructure, and attract both domestic and international tourists. By transforming scenic landscapes into high-profile sports venues, Indonesia successfully leverages athletic events to boost regional development.

Challenges in Infrastructure and Future Projections

Despite the cultural resonance of National Sports Day, the journey of Indonesian sports is not without formidable challenges. Analysts and sports administrators frequently point to infrastructural deficits and funding constraints as primary hurdles preventing the nation from realizing its full athletic potential.

To bridge this gap, modern sports policy has pivoted toward massive investments in grassroots infrastructure. Recent strategic planning documents from Kemenpora have underscored the urgent need for substantial capital injections—including proposals requiring trillions of rupiah—to construct state-of-the-art training academies, science-backed recovery centers, and decentralized regional training hubs. These investments are deemed critical if Indonesia hopes to transition from relying on sporadic talent discovery to maintaining a consistent, sustainable pipeline of world-class athletes.

Furthermore, integrating physical education more effectively into the national curriculum remains a central objective for policymakers. Public health data indicates that addressing sedentary lifestyles and non-communicable diseases requires a cultural shift akin to the one envisioned during the founding of Haornas. Encouraging families, schools, and corporate entities to prioritize daily physical activity is viewed as a vital preventative healthcare measure that reduces long-term national medical burdens.

Looking Ahead to Haornas and the Road to 2026

As the calendar turns toward the 43rd commemoration of National Sports Day in September 2026, the legacy of the 1948 Solo Games remains remarkably relevant. The challenges faced by the pioneers of Indonesian sport—scarcity of resources, administrative isolation, and infrastructural limitations—have evolved into modern quests for global competitiveness, sports science integration, and economic sustainability.

Communities across the archipelago mark Haornas with a diverse array of grassroots activities: neighborhood running clubs hosting community marathons, schools organizing inter-class tournaments, and families engaging in outdoor recreational pursuits. These localized celebrations embody the true essence of the holiday, proving that the ideals forged during a time of revolution continue to resonate in the daily lives of millions of Indonesians.

Ultimately, National Sports Day serves as a powerful annual reminder that the story of Indonesian sports is a continuous work in progress. By honoring the sacrifices of the athletes and leaders who gathered in Solo nearly eight decades ago, modern Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to building a healthier, more resilient, and globally respected nation through the universal language of sport.

Indonesia Secures Global Support for Mandatory Halal Certification as 80 Nations Align with New Regulatory Standards

by Asep Darmawan
written by Asep Darmawan

The conclusion of The 5th Summit of Halal 20 (H20) 2026 in Jakarta has marked a pivotal milestone in the global Islamic economy, as Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan announced that more than 80 countries have formally expressed their readiness to comply with Indonesia’s mandatory halal certification requirements. This development follows years of intensive diplomatic outreach, regulatory harmonization efforts, and international summits aimed at streamlining the global halal supply chain. The forum, which saw direct participation from 48 nations, serves as a critical validation of Indonesia’s position as a global leader in the halal industry and underscores the maturing nature of international trade standards regarding religious dietary and manufacturing protocols.

The Significance of the H20 2026 Summit

The 5th Summit of Halal 20 (H20) acted as a primary platform for stakeholders to reconcile disparate national standards into a more cohesive, globally recognized framework. As Indonesia moves toward full implementation of its mandatory halal labeling, the necessity for cross-border cooperation has never been higher. By convening representatives from 48 countries in Jakarta, the summit provided a neutral, collaborative space for regulatory bodies, certification agencies, and industry leaders to discuss the technicalities of the Indonesian Halal Law.

The presence of these international delegates is not merely symbolic; it represents a functional alignment of certification systems. For international exporters, Indonesia’s mandate is not viewed as a trade barrier but rather as a standardized threshold for entry into one of the world’s largest consumer markets. The discussions focused on Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs), which are essential for ensuring that halal certificates issued by foreign agencies are accepted by BPJPH, thereby preventing logistical bottlenecks for imported goods.

Chronology of Indonesia’s Mandatory Halal Journey

The trajectory toward mandatory halal certification in Indonesia has been a multi-year process characterized by phased implementation and legislative adjustment. The journey can be traced through several key stages:

  1. Legislative Foundation (2014-2019): The enactment of Law No. 33 of 2014 regarding Halal Product Assurance established the BPJPH, shifting the authority of halal certification from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to the state. This moved the process from a voluntary, NGO-led system to a government-mandated regulatory framework.
  2. The Establishment of BPJPH (2017): The formal formation of the agency marked the beginning of administrative centralization, setting the stage for the transition toward mandatory requirements.
  3. Phased Implementation (2019-2024): During this period, the government began requiring mandatory certification for food and beverage products, slaughterhouses, and raw materials, while providing grace periods for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
  4. International Harmonization (2022-2026): With the introduction of the H20 summits, Indonesia began aggressively pursuing international partnerships to ensure that imported products meet the high standards of the Indonesian halal ecosystem.
  5. Full Mandatory Implementation (2026 and Beyond): Following the 2026 summit, the focus has shifted to rigorous enforcement, with the government signaling that the global community is sufficiently prepared to adhere to these requirements.

Supporting Data and Market Context

The urgency behind Indonesia’s push for mandatory halal certification is supported by the sheer scale of the global halal market. According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report, global Muslim consumer spending on food and beverages is projected to exceed $1.5 trillion annually. Indonesia, home to the world’s largest Muslim population, remains the primary consumer hub.

Data from the Ministry of Trade indicates that the value of imported processed food products into Indonesia has seen a steady increase, with a significant portion originating from non-OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) countries. By ensuring that over 80 countries have aligned their certification processes with Indonesian standards, BPJPH is mitigating the risk of trade disruptions. The 48 countries represented at the summit account for approximately 70% of Indonesia’s food and pharmaceutical imports, making their alignment a strategic victory for trade continuity.

Official Response: The View from BPJPH

Ahmad Haikal Hasan, speaking to the press after the summit, emphasized that the acceptance by these 80 nations is the result of persistent diplomatic efforts. "We have been engaged in continuous socialization and transparent communication," Hasan noted. "The fact that 48 nations were present at this summit to discuss implementation details confirms that the global market has moved past the initial skepticism and is now focused on operational execution."

Hasan addressed concerns regarding the impact on foreign suppliers by highlighting that the transition is being managed through a spirit of cooperation rather than exclusion. The government’s approach has been to provide technical assistance to foreign halal certification bodies, helping them audit their local producers to meet the standards required by the Indonesian government. "The world is ready," Hasan stated. "The dialogue we have fostered ensures that global supply chains remain uninterrupted as we enforce our national regulations."

Economic and Regulatory Implications

The move toward mandatory certification carries profound implications for both domestic and international markets. For foreign corporations, the requirement means updating supply chain traceability, ensuring that every additive, flavor, and processing agent in their products is accounted for. While this creates an initial administrative burden, it also provides long-term security. Once a product is certified for the Indonesian market, it often meets or exceeds the halal requirements of other major Muslim-majority markets, such as Malaysia, the Middle East, and North Africa.

For Indonesia, the mandate is a tool for consumer protection and domestic industry growth. By enforcing strict standards, the government ensures that the domestic market is not flooded with products of dubious halal status. Furthermore, it creates a competitive environment where Indonesian local manufacturers are encouraged to professionalize their production lines to keep pace with international standards.

Analytical Perspective: Challenges Ahead

Despite the optimism expressed at the summit, observers note that several challenges remain. The primary concern is the capacity of local Indonesian auditors to handle the influx of international certification applications. The administrative burden of verifying thousands of foreign products requires a robust digital infrastructure. BPJPH has already begun investing in integrated digital portals to automate the certification process, but the integration of foreign data remains a technical hurdle.

Additionally, there is the challenge of "Halal Literacy." While large multinational corporations are well-versed in these requirements, small-scale international exporters may still find the regulatory landscape daunting. The success of the 2026 mandate will depend heavily on the Indonesian government’s ability to maintain clear communication channels and provide ongoing support to these smaller stakeholders.

Broader Impact on Global Trade

The alignment of 80 countries with Indonesia’s halal standards effectively creates a "Halal Common Market" of sorts. As global standards become more uniform, the cost of certification is expected to decrease over time through the elimination of redundant testing and auditing. This is a significant development for international trade, as it reduces the "halal tax" that previously hindered exporters.

Furthermore, the collaboration between these nations suggests that halal is becoming an increasingly recognized quality assurance standard, transcending religious requirements and entering the realm of general consumer safety and hygiene. The transparency required for halal certification—such as supply chain audits and ingredient disclosure—aligns with modern consumer trends toward healthier and more ethical consumption.

Conclusion

The 5th Summit of Halal 20 has provided the necessary momentum to solidify Indonesia’s role as the anchor of the global halal economy. With 80 countries now in alignment, the implementation of mandatory certification in Indonesia is no longer just a domestic policy; it is a global trade standard. As BPJPH moves into the enforcement phase, the focus will transition from diplomatic consensus to logistical excellence. The success of this initiative will be measured by the seamless integration of global products into the Indonesian market, ensuring that the country’s massive consumer base is served by products that strictly adhere to the highest standards of halal integrity. For the international business community, the message from Jakarta is clear: the path forward for the global Islamic economy is one of standardization, cooperation, and rigorous regulatory compliance.

Pengamat Sepak Bola Pertanyakan Pemanggilan Shayne Pattynama ke Timnas Indonesia untuk FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026

by Nila Kartika Wati
written by Nila Kartika Wati

The latest roster announcement for the Indonesian National Team ahead of the upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 has sparked significant debate within the country’s football community. Head Coach John Herdman’s decision to issue a late call-up to Persija Jakarta defender Shayne Pattynama has drawn public scrutiny, most notably from prominent football pundit Bung Harpa. The controversy centers primarily around Pattynama’s current physical condition, as reports indicate that the 28-year-old fullback has not yet reached 100 percent match fitness following a recovery period.

The decision to expand the initial 23-man squad to a 24-player roster comes at a crucial juncture for the Garuda squad as they prepare for regional dominance in Southeast Asia. However, the inclusion of a player who has yet to feature in competitive league fixtures for his club this season has raised eyebrows among analysts and supporters alike, prompting a broader conversation regarding squad depth, injury management, and tactical selection criteria within the national team setup.

Chronology of the Call-Up and Club Representation

The sequence of events leading to the roster expansion began when John Herdman initially finalized his 23-player list for the prestigious tournament. Shortly after, on Sunday, September 20, 2026, the technical staff issued a late, supplementary call-up for Shayne Pattynama, bringing the total squad size to 24 players.

Persija Jakarta promptly announced the inclusion of their defender through the club’s official social media channels. With Pattynama’s addition, the capital-based club boasts a significant contingent within the national team setup, contributing a total of six players. Alongside Pattynama, the Persija contingent features goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata, versatile youngster Dony Tri Pamungkas, defensive stalwart Rizky Ridho, naturalized defender Jordi Amat, and attacking midfielder Rayhan Hannan.

Despite the strong representation from one of Liga 1’s powerhouse clubs, the timing and sporting rationale behind Pattynama’s selection have come under immediate fire due to his absence from competitive domestic action. Statistical records for the Super League 2026/2027 season indicate that Pattynama has yet to log a single minute of playing time for Persija, leaving his match sharpness and physical readiness for high-intensity international competition severely in question.

Expert Analysis and Concerns Regarding Match Fitness

The foremost critic of the selection, Bung Harpa, voiced his reservations during a broadcast on his personal digital media platform. Citing what he termed "A1 information"—implying highly reliable and verified internal sources—the pundit revealed that Pattynama’s recovery process remains incomplete.

"The strange thing is the condition of this player—this is A1 information—he is not yet at 100 percent maximum, not fully recovered," Bung Harpa stated during the broadcast.

In elite international football, physical preparedness is paramount. Tournaments conducted in rapid succession, such as the FIFA ASEAN Cup, demand intense physical exertion, frequent recovery cycles, and robust cardiovascular endurance. Bringing in a defender who lacks competitive rhythm from club matches creates potential tactical vulnerabilities, especially if the player is forced into high-stakes encounters before fully adapting to match tempo.

Tactical Depth at the Left-Back Position

Adding to the complexity of Herdman’s decision is the wealth of talent already available to the Indonesian coaching staff in the left-back and left wing-back positions. The Garuda squad features several high-profile, active players capable of anchoring the left flank defensively while contributing effectively to the attack.

Among the notable names available to Herdman are Dean James, Nathan Tjoe-A-On, Calvin Verdonk, and the young prospect Dony Tri Pamungkas. Each of these players has maintained regular minutes and competitive form either in domestic leagues or high-level European competitions, providing robust coverage for the defensive line. With such depth readily accessible, critics argue that deploying or even reserving a spot for an undercooked player like Pattynama disrupts the competitive balance of the squad.

The Case for Pratama Arhan

As an alternative to the late call-up, Bung Harpa directed attention toward another prominent Indonesian fullback, Pratama Arhan. Known for his tireless work rate and specialized skill set, Arhan was presented as a more pragmatic choice given his current developmental trajectory and physical readiness.

Unlike Pattynama, Arhan has successfully navigated his rehabilitation phase following a hand injury and has actively participated in recent competitive fixtures for Persija Jakarta. Crucially, the pundit highlighted Arhan’s unique tactical asset: his trademark long-range throw-ins. In modern football, where set-piece routines and dead-ball situations frequently decide tightly contested matches, Arhan’s ability to launch the ball deep into the opponent’s penalty box from the touchline serves as an invaluable offensive weapon.

"Even yesterday, he [Pratama Arhan] already played in the last two matches. Then, he has the long throw-in. Who knows, in a deadlock situation, his long throw-ins could yield results," Bung Harpa explained.

This specialized capability has historically troubled opposing defenses and provided the national team and clubs alike with an alternative tactical dimension when traditional passing build-ups fail to break down low defensive blocks.

Broader Implications for the Garuda Squad

The controversy surrounding the left-back selection highlights the immense scrutiny facing John Herdman and his coaching staff as Indonesia approaches the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. Every roster decision is analyzed through a magnifying glass by fans and analysts who expect nothing short of optimal performance and meticulous squad management.

While national team managers often look beyond immediate club statistics—valuing international experience, locker room chemistry, and tactical familiarity—the risk associated with selecting recovering players remains high. If Pattynama proves his fitness and delivers on the pitch, Herdman’s faith will be vindicated. However, should the defender struggle or suffer a recurrence of physical issues during the tournament, the coaching staff will likely face sustained criticism for overlooking match-ready alternatives like Arhan or relying too heavily on squad depth at the expense of current form.

As the team finalizes its preparations ahead of the opening fixtures, all eyes will be on the training ground to monitor how Herdman manages his expanded 24-man roster and whether the controversial selections will translate into continental success for the red-and-white contingent.

Bali United Officially Secures Croatian Striker Marko Dugandzic to Boost Squad for Super League 2026-2027 Campaign

by Ammar Sabilarrohman
written by Ammar Sabilarrohman

The landscape of the Super League 2026-2027 season shifted significantly this Monday, September 21, 2026, as Bali United officially announced the acquisition of veteran Croatian striker Marko Dugandzic. The signing marks the end of a prolonged period of speculation, during which the 32-year-old marksman was frequently linked to a move to Persija Jakarta. By securing Dugandzic on a free transfer following his departure from the Bulgarian powerhouse Levski Sofia, Bali United has made a bold statement of intent, aiming to bolster an attacking line that management deems critical for their championship aspirations.

A Strategic Addition Amidst Transfer Window Speculation

The acquisition of Marko Dugandzic serves as a tactical masterstroke for the Serdadu Tridatu. Throughout the early stages of the current transfer window, rumors had swirled regarding a potential reunion between Dugandzic and the Indonesian football scene, with multiple high-profile clubs—most notably Persija Jakarta—reportedly scouting the Croatian forward. Dugandzic, known for his clinical finishing and ability to occupy defenders, previously garnered significant attention during his tenure as a top scorer in the Romanian leagues.

His decision to choose the Gianyar-based club suggests a alignment between the player’s ambition to perform at a high level in Asia and the club’s objective to reclaim their dominance in the regional hierarchy. While the financial details and the specific duration of the contract remain under wraps, industry insiders suggest that the deal is structured to provide both immediate impact and long-term stability for the squad.

The Chronology of the Pursuit

The interest in Dugandzic did not materialize overnight. Bali United’s scouting department had been tracking his progress in Eastern Europe for several months, particularly as he navigated his final season with Levski Sofia. The chronology of the deal follows a period of intense deliberation within the club’s leadership:

  • Early August 2026: Initial contact is established between Bali United’s recruitment team and Dugandzic’s representatives.
  • Late August 2026: Persija Jakarta expresses public interest, creating a competitive bidding environment that elevated the profile of the potential transfer.
  • September 10, 2026: Dugandzic officially parts ways with Levski Sofia, transitioning to free agency and opening the door for direct negotiations.
  • September 18, 2026: Final terms are agreed upon, with the player undergoing medical evaluations in Bali.
  • September 21, 2026: The club formally announces the signing, ending weeks of speculation.

Why Bali United Needed a Tactical Shift

The decision to pursue a high-caliber striker was prompted by a combination of tactical necessity and unfortunate injury setbacks. The club’s management and coaching staff, led by head coach Stefano Cugurra, conducted an internal review following the opening matches of the Super League season. It became evident that while the midfield was functioning at a high capacity—bolstered by recent efforts to bring in players like Brandon Wilson—the finishing touch in the final third lacked the predatory instinct that a player of Dugandzic’s caliber provides.

Bukan Persija! Eks Top Skor Liga Rumania Marko Dugandzic Pilih Bali United

Furthermore, the club is currently dealing with the long-term absence of defender Joao Ferrari. The loss of a key defensive pillar has forced the club to reorganize its overall team balance. By strengthening the attack with a proven goal-scorer, Bali United aims to adopt a "best defense is a good offense" strategy, putting pressure on opponents to avoid defensive lapses that might occur while the backline is in transition.

Official Statements and Club Philosophy

Yabes Tanuri, the CEO of Bali United, emphasized that the decision to sign Dugandzic was a collaborative effort. "The process of bringing Marko to Bali was meticulous," Tanuri stated in the official press release. "We have evaluated our needs carefully with the coaching staff. We understand that we are in a challenging period, particularly with the injury sustained by Joao Ferrari, which will sideline him for the foreseeable future. Our focus remains on supporting Joao’s recovery while ensuring the squad remains competitive on all fronts."

Tanuri highlighted that Dugandzic’s experience in various European leagues, combined with his understanding of the physical requirements of professional football, makes him an ideal candidate to integrate quickly into the team’s system. The club believes that his presence will not only provide goals but also offer valuable mentorship to the younger players in the squad who are looking to make their mark on the international stage.

Fact-Based Analysis of the Impact on the Super League

The arrival of a player with Dugandzic’s pedigree has several implications for the Super League 2026-2027 season. First, it increases the competitive threshold for other clubs. Teams that were previously comfortable with their defensive setups will now have to adjust their tactical plans to account for a striker who excels in both aerial duels and link-up play.

Second, the move signals that Bali United is prioritizing its return to the Asian level. With the club openly stating their desire to compete in regional tournaments, they require a roster depth that can handle the increased fatigue and physical toll of playing in both domestic and continental competitions. Data from recent seasons shows that teams with a reliable, consistent striker often see a 20-25% increase in conversion rates, a metric that could be the difference between a mid-table finish and a championship trophy.

Financial and Sporting Implications

The move to sign a player of Dugandzic’s caliber on a free transfer is economically sound. By avoiding a hefty transfer fee, Bali United can allocate resources toward optimizing the player’s conditioning and integration. However, the salary expectations for a player of his experience are undoubtedly significant, placing pressure on the striker to deliver results immediately.

Bukan Persija! Eks Top Skor Liga Rumania Marko Dugandzic Pilih Bali United

From a tactical perspective, Dugandzic’s arrival allows the coaching staff to rotate the forward line more effectively. His presence complements the existing attacking options, providing a different profile—a traditional "number nine"—that allows for a more varied tactical approach depending on the opponent. If the team can successfully integrate him into their high-pressing system, they will likely become the most dangerous attacking unit in the league.

Looking Toward the Future

As the Super League continues to evolve, the ability of clubs to identify talent in the European market remains a key differentiator. Bali United has shown that they are not afraid to be aggressive in the transfer market when the situation demands it. The coming weeks will be critical for Dugandzic as he undergoes intense training to adjust to the tropical climate and the specific tempo of the Indonesian game.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching the next few matchdays closely. Whether Dugandzic can replicate the success he found in Romania and Bulgaria remains to be seen, but the initial signs—coupled with his clear motivation to succeed in a new environment—point toward a successful partnership. For Bali United, the mission is clear: with the addition of Marko Dugandzic, the club is signaling that they are not just satisfied with competing, but are firmly focused on securing the championship title for the 2026-2027 season.

The club’s management has made it clear that while they are satisfied with the current squad, they remain vigilant. The transfer market is fluid, and the primary objective remains the stability of the team. As Joao Ferrari continues his rehabilitation, the entire organization is rallying around him, while simultaneously looking ahead to the upcoming challenges with the added firepower of their new Croatian star. The Super League 2026-2027 has just become significantly more interesting.

Dewa United Banten FC Leads BRI Super League 2026/27 Standings Ahead of International Break Amid Fierce Early-Season Competition

by Ali Ikhwan
written by Ali Ikhwan

The BRI Super League 2026/27 has reached its first major inflection point, pausing for the September-October international window with Dewa United Banten FC sitting proudly at the summit of the table. As the domestic competition temporarily halts to accommodate national team duties across the globe, clubs, coaching staffs, and management teams are using this interval to evaluate their tactical output, address early-season vulnerabilities, and prepare for the grueling months of football ahead. The opening phase of the campaign has provided fans with high drama, tactical evolution, unexpected surges from traditional contenders, and early struggles from newly promoted outfits trying to find their footing in the top flight.

Dewa United Banten FC currently occupies the premier position as the only club to have amassed 10 points from their first four fixtures. Their consistent run of form, characterized by three hard-fought victories and a solitary draw, reflects the structural maturity and depth that the club has cultivated over recent seasons. Under the guidance of their tactical leadership, Dewa United demonstrated resilience in their most recent outing, securing a narrow yet vital 2-1 victory over PSS Sleman. This triumph ensured that they retained their grip on first place, holding a delicate one-point cushion over their closest pursuers. The club’s ability to grind out results even when not playing at their absolute fluent best has established them as genuine early contenders for the league crown, turning heads across the Indonesian football landscape.

Chasing the league leaders closely are two historic and formidable powerhouses: Madura United and Persija Jakarta. Both clubs have enjoyed flawless starts to their respective campaigns, accumulating nine points each from three matches. Their identical records of three wins from three outings highlight a razor-thin margin at the top of the standings, with both teams yet to drop a single point. Madura United continues to display the disciplined, counter-attacking efficiency and defensive solidity that made them a formidable force in previous seasons. Their tactical cohesion has allowed them to control matches against tricky opponents, maximizing their scoring opportunities while remaining defensively compact.

Meanwhile, Persija Jakarta has captured the imagination of the league with a series of high-octane performances that underline their championship ambitions. The capital city club, affectionately known as the Macan Kemayoran, has maintained a 100 percent win record, highlighted by a high-profile victory over arch-rivals Persib Bandung. This particular derby triumph not only injected immense momentum into Persija’s campaign but also sent a resounding statement of intent to the rest of the league. The tactical approach implemented by the coaching staff has unleashed the full creative potential of their midfield, while their defensive line has proven remarkably difficult to breach. The early-season momentum has energized the club’s massive fan base, fostering a belief that this could finally be the year they reclaim ultimate domestic glory.

Mid-Table Battles and Tactical Shifts

Beneath the leading trio, the competition intensifies as clubs vie for crucial positioning to avoid mid-table stagnation. Bali United currently holds fourth place with six points from three matches. The Serdadu Tridatu secured two impressive victories in their opening fixtures, showcasing their trademark attacking flair and tactical flexibility. However, their momentum suffered a temporary setback just before the international break when they fell to a narrow 0-1 defeat against Borneo FC. This defeat serves as a reminder of the unforgiving nature of the BRI Super League, where minor lapses in concentration can instantly alter a team’s trajectory in the standings.

Capitalizing on Bali United’s slip-up is Borneo FC, who leapfrogged into sixth place, also boasting six points. Like the league leaders, the Pesut Etam are one of only two teams to have completed four matches thus far. Their resilience and tactical adaptability have been key components of their early campaign, allowing them to grind out results in hostile away environments and bounce back swiftly from setbacks. The coaching staff has emphasized physical endurance and positional discipline, traits that have paid dividends as the league enters its first grueling block of fixtures.

Defending Champions Seeking Consistency

Rounding out the top five is defending champion Persib Bandung, a side that has experienced a rollercoaster opening to their title defense. The Maung Bandung have collected six points from three matches, registering two victories and one defeat. Their lone blemish came in the high-profile defeat to Persija Jakarta, a result that momentarily stunned the defending champions and raised questions regarding their defensive frailties under pressure.

However, the response from the Bandung faithful and the squad itself was immediate and emphatic. Persib bounced back swiftly with a convincing victory over Persijap Jepara, demonstrating the mental fortitude and championship pedigree expected of a titleholder. This bounce-back victory ensured that Persib remained firmly entrenched in the upper echelons of the table, despite having played fewer matches than table-toppers Dewa United and Borneo FC. The technical team understands that maintaining domestic supremacy requires squad rotation and tactical adjustments, especially as they balance domestic aspirations with potential continental commitments later in the calendar.

Struggles at the Foot of the Table

While the upper tier of the standings showcases tactical brilliance and competitive fervor, the bottom of the table tells a story of survival, adaptation, and early-season panic. Newly promoted Persijap Jepara has endured a baptism of fire in the top flight, occupying the 16th position without a single point to their name after suffering defeats in all three of their opening fixtures. The step up in intensity, technical execution, and physical demands has exposed the harsh realities of elite Indonesian football for the promotion-winning side. Management and coaching staff are reportedly utilizing the international break to recalibrate their defensive structures and integrate new signings, knowing full well that an immediate turnaround is required to avoid an expedited return to the lower division.

Similarly, PSS Sleman finds themselves mired in a difficult phase, sitting 15th in the standings with zero points and a concerning goal difference of 3-7. The Elang Jawa have struggled to find defensive stability, conceding goals at an alarming rate while failing to capitalize on their own attacking opportunities. The defensive frailties exposed in their 2-1 loss to Dewa United highlighted systemic issues that the coaching staff must urgently address during the international hiatus.

At the very bottom of the league pyramid, Java United FC and Isenmulang Kalteng FC are experiencing a nightmare start to the campaign, languishing with negative points due to early disciplinary sanctions or regulatory adjustments compounded by poor form. Java United occupies the 17th spot with minus one point, while Isenmulang Kalteng FC anchors the league table as the juru kunci with minus two points. The psychological toll of starting a season in the negative has heavily impacted these clubs, making the upcoming weeks of preparation crucial for any hopes of a miraculous relegation escape.

Context, Background, and Structural Evolution of the BRI Super League 2026/27

The ongoing 2026/27 season of the BRI Super League represents a pivotal chapter in the evolution of Indonesian professional football. Over recent years, league organizers have systematically implemented structural reforms aimed at elevating the overall competitive standard, improving refereeing standards through the integration of technological assistance, and enhancing infrastructural compliance across all participating clubs. These changes have directly influenced the on-field product, resulting in faster-paced matches, more sophisticated tactical setups, and a higher standard of technical execution from both domestic talents and foreign marquee signings.

The financial injection from title sponsor BRI, coupled with improved broadcasting revenue distribution, has allowed clubs to invest heavily in sports science, youth academies, and professional coaching staff. Consequently, the traditional gap between established giants like Persib, Persija, and Bali United, and emerging challengers like Dewa United and Borneo FC, has narrowed significantly. This competitive parity has transformed every matchday into an unpredictable spectacle, where upsets are common and league positions fluctuate wildly with every single goal scored.

Furthermore, the introduction of stricter licensing regulations has forced clubs to operate with greater administrative transparency and financial sustainability. Teams can no longer rely solely on short-term fixes; instead, they must construct balanced squads featuring a blend of experienced veterans and dynamic young prospects. This strategic shift is already bearing fruit, as evidenced by the seamless integration of academy graduates into the starting line-ups of several top-tier clubs during the opening weeks of the current campaign.

Tactical Trends and Managerial Perspectives

As tactical analysts dissect the opening four weeks of the BRI Super League 2026/27, several clear tactical trends have emerged. The modern Indonesian game has largely transitioned away from rigid, traditional formations toward fluid, hybrid systems that prioritize high-intensity pressing, positional rotation, and rapid transitions. Coaches are increasingly demanding tactical versatility from their players, requiring full-backs to operate as inverted playmakers and central defenders to initiate attacking sequences with pinpoint long-range distribution.

Dewa United’s success at the summit is a prime testament to this tactical evolution. Their head coach has fostered a balanced philosophy that seamlessly merges defensive solidity with quick, vertical ball progression. By dominating the center of the pitch and denying opponents space between the lines, Dewa United has effectively controlled the tempo of their matches. Their ability to transition from a low defensive block to a rapid counter-attack has caught numerous opponents off guard.

In contrast, high-flying Persija Jakarta has leaned heavily on an aggressive, possession-based dominance style. Under their current technical direction, the Macan Kemayoran look to suffocate opponents through sustained periods of ball retention, using numerical superiority in the midfield to wear down defensive structures before exploiting spaces in the channels. This approach requires exceptional physical conditioning and tactical discipline, attributes that the squad has displayed in abundance during their flawless three-match winning streak.

Conversely, clubs struggling at the bottom of the table, such as PSS Sleman and Persijap Jepara, have largely suffered from an inability to adapt to these heightened tactical demands. Defensive lapses, poor transitional tracking, and a lack of clinical execution in the final third have repeatedly punished these sides. Football pundits and analysts frequently point out that survival in the modern BRI Super League requires not just individual brilliance, but absolute collective synchronization. Teams that fail to maintain defensive shape for the full ninety minutes are systematically dismantled by the league’s increasingly lethal attacking units.

Implications of the International Break

The arrival of the September-October international window offers a vital sanctuary for clubs to recalibrate. For teams currently leading the pack, such as Dewa United, Madura United, and Persija, the break provides an opportunity to rest fatigued legs, recover minor injuries, and fine-tune tactical variations without the immediate pressure of a weekend fixture. Coaching staffs can utilize this period to conduct intensive video analysis, correcting positional errors identified during the opening fixtures and preparing specific game plans for the upcoming block of matches.

For struggling clubs like PSS Sleman and Persijap Jepara, the international break is nothing short of a lifeline. It affords management the necessary time to assess whether technical changes are required, allows new tactical concepts to be absorbed on the training ground without the distraction of media scrutiny following a weekend defeat, and gives injured players a chance to return to full fitness. In some instances, struggling clubs utilize this window to hold internal scrimmages or closed-door friendlies to build match sharpness and restore psychological confidence among players who have suffered demoralizing defeats.

Moreover, the international break serves as a period of reflection for club executives and investors. With four matchweeks officially in the books, the initial data sample is large enough to evaluate the effectiveness of summer transfer window acquisitions. Clubs that find themselves underperforming may quietly begin exploring the market for free agents or laying the groundwork for strategic reinforcements ahead of the mid-season transfer window. The financial stakes of remaining in the top flight or challenging for the championship are immense, ensuring that boardrooms will remain active even as the players rest.

Looking Ahead: The Road to the Championship

As Indonesian football enthusiasts look past the international break and anticipate the resumption of the BRI Super League 2026/27, the narrative arcs for the remainder of the season are already taking shape. The title race promises to be a grueling marathon rather than a sprint, with Dewa United, Madura United, Persija Jakarta, and defending champions Persib Bandung locked in what is expected to be a historic multi-team battle for supremacy.

The depth of each squad, their resilience in the face of injuries and suspensions, and their capacity to manage the mental fatigue of a long season will ultimately determine who lifts the coveted trophy at the conclusion of the campaign. Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the table, the battle for survival will undoubtedly produce dramatic twists, tense relegation six-pointers, and desperate tactical gambles as clubs fight tooth and nail to preserve their top-flight status.

Ultimately, the BRI Super League 2026/27 continues to reinforce its reputation as one of the most dynamic, fiercely competitive, and emotionally charged domestic competitions in the region. As the teams return from international duty refreshed and re-energized, the stage is set for a thrilling continuation of a footballing journey that has captivated millions of supporters across the nation.

Pakistan Jadi Proksinya China, Posisi India Makin Terpojok

by Dwi Wanna
written by Dwi Wanna

The geopolitical landscape of the Himalayas has shifted significantly following the formalization of a joint border commission between Pakistan and China, a move that has drawn sharp condemnation from New Delhi and intensified long-standing regional friction. For decades, India has maintained a steadfast position regarding its territorial sovereignty in the Ladakh region, consistently refusing to recognize any bilateral agreements between Islamabad and Beijing concerning lands that India claims as part of its integral territory. The recent signing of an agreement to establish the Pakistan-China Joint Border Commission marks a critical juncture in the strategic alignment between the two nations, further complicating India’s security environment.

The Anatomy of the Dispute

At the heart of this renewed diplomatic crisis is the Shaksgam Valley, a rugged and remote expanse covering approximately 5,180 square kilometers. This territory was ceded by Pakistan to China under a 1963 border agreement—a deal that India has viewed as illegal and void since its inception. New Delhi’s position remains that the Shaksgam Valley, along with other portions of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, remains under the illegal occupation of Pakistan. By establishing a formal commission to manage, trade, and improve connectivity across these borders, Pakistan and China are effectively cementing a status quo that India refuses to acknowledge as legitimate.

The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi was swift in its response, characterizing the agreement as a violation of sovereignty. Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson for the Indian government, stated categorically that the so-called joint commission lacks any legal basis. According to the Indian government, Pakistan possesses no legal standing (locus standi) to negotiate or manage territories that India considers to be part of its sovereign domain.

Historical Context and Chronology

The roots of this territorial impasse stretch back to the partition of British India in 1947. The status of Jammu and Kashmir became a flashpoint for conflict between India and Pakistan almost immediately. As the two nations consolidated their borders, China began to assert its own interests in the high-altitude regions of the Karakoram and the Himalayas.

  • 1947–1948: The first Indo-Pakistani war breaks out over Kashmir, leading to the current Line of Control (LoC).
  • 1962: The Sino-Indian War results in a military defeat for India and the solidification of Chinese control over Aksai Chin.
  • 1963: Pakistan and China sign the Sino-Pakistan Agreement, where Pakistan cedes the Shaksgam Valley to China to settle border demarcations. India immediately rejects the validity of this treaty.
  • 2020: Tensions between India and China escalate significantly following the Galwan Valley clash along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), leading to a prolonged military standoff.
  • 2024: Pakistan and China formalize the Joint Border Commission, signaling deeper integration of their border management systems and sparking fresh diplomatic protests from New Delhi.

Strategic Implications: The China-Pakistan Axis

The deepening cooperation between Islamabad and Beijing represents a strategic encirclement challenge for New Delhi. China’s "Belt and Road Initiative" (BRI), specifically the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), already traverses territory claimed by India. The establishment of this new border commission is seen by analysts as an extension of this physical and economic integration.

For India, the concern is twofold: military and diplomatic. Militarily, India must now contend with a coordinated approach to border management by its two primary adversaries. If Pakistan and China synchronize their activities along the northern borders, the Indian Armed Forces face the prospect of a "two-front" logistical and tactical burden. Diplomatic analysts suggest that Beijing is utilizing Pakistan as a proxy to keep India preoccupied on its western and northern borders, thereby constraining India’s ability to project influence in the Indo-Pacific or challenge Chinese hegemony in the South China Sea.

Regional Reactions and Global Perspectives

While the United States and other Western nations have generally remained cautious in commenting on the specifics of the Sino-Pakistani border demarcation, there is an underlying concern regarding the destabilization of the Himalayan region. The international community, particularly within the framework of the United Nations, has historically viewed the Kashmir issue as a bilateral matter to be resolved between India and Pakistan. However, China’s direct involvement in the administration of these disputed lands elevates the conflict from a regional border dispute to a broader geopolitical competition.

Pakistan maintains that its agreement with China is a sovereign right, intended to improve regional connectivity and economic prosperity. Islamabad argues that because it maintains administrative control over these territories, it has the right to enter into bilateral agreements that benefit its national interest. This narrative, however, is diametrically opposed to India’s insistence that the entire territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a sovereign part of India, including areas currently under Pakistani or Chinese administration.

The Economic Dimension of Border Management

The joint commission is tasked with addressing not just security, but also commerce and connectivity. The development of infrastructure in the Shaksgam Valley and surrounding areas is part of a larger plan to link Western China with the Arabian Sea via the port of Gwadar in Pakistan. For China, the ability to bypass the Malacca Strait—a potential bottleneck in the event of a naval blockade—is a vital strategic objective. By consolidating its hold on these border regions, China ensures the security of its energy imports and trade routes.

For India, this infrastructure development represents a direct threat to its territorial integrity. The construction of roads, bridges, and surveillance installations in these disputed areas shifts the "facts on the ground" in favor of the China-Pakistan alliance, making a future resolution of the border dispute increasingly difficult.

Future Outlook and Analytical Insights

The formalization of the Pakistan-China border commission leaves India in a precarious position. The current Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has emphasized a policy of "territorial assertiveness." The rejection of the commission is consistent with this policy, yet it provides no immediate mechanism to reverse the developments on the ground.

Observers note that the timing of this announcement is particularly sensitive, as India and China are currently engaged in delicate negotiations to de-escalate tensions along the LAC following the 2020 border crisis. The move to deepen China-Pakistan cooperation appears to be a signal from Beijing that it is not prepared to prioritize the normalization of ties with India at the expense of its "all-weather" partnership with Pakistan.

The lack of a legal foundation for this commission, as asserted by India, serves as a diplomatic shield, but it does not address the underlying reality of the power imbalance. As China continues to modernize its military and expand its influence, and as Pakistan leverages its proximity to China to counter India’s regional dominance, the Himalayan border will remain one of the most volatile zones in the world.

In conclusion, the establishment of the Pakistan-China Joint Border Commission is more than a administrative formality; it is a recalibration of power in South Asia. By formalizing their border management, Pakistan and China have effectively signaled a unified stance against India’s claims. For India, the road ahead involves navigating a complex environment where traditional diplomatic protests are increasingly challenged by the reality of military and economic integration between its two neighbors. The stability of the region will continue to depend on whether these territorial tensions can be managed through dialogue or if they will further entrench the division of the Himalayan frontier, potentially leading to further flashpoints in the years to come.

Green SM Bike di Jakarta, driver bisa sewa motor mulai Rp39 ribu

by Laily UPN
written by Laily UPN

Jakarta has officially welcomed a new eco-friendly mobility option as Green SM, the prominent Vietnamese ride-hailing and electric vehicle enterprise, officially launched its electric motorcycle ride-hailing service, Green SM Bike, on September 16, 2026. This strategic rollout marks a significant milestone for the company, establishing Indonesia as its very first international market for electric two-wheeler operations. Building upon its prior success in introducing electric taxis to the Indonesian market, Green SM is now expanding its zero-emission ecosystem to the bustling urban motorcycle taxi sector, commonly known locally as ojek online.

The grand debut of Green SM Bike in the Indonesian capital introduces sustainable transportation alternatives for everyday commuters while simultaneously creating new socioeconomic opportunities for local drivers. By deploying a fleet of modern electric scooters manufactured by VinFast, Green SM aims to reshape urban mobility dynamics in Jakarta, aligning with national initiatives to curb carbon emissions and promote green energy adoption within public transportation networks.

Phased Initial Rollout Across Strategic Jakarta Zones

For its initial launch phase, Green SM Bike has established operational footprints in selected high-density and commercial districts across the capital. Passengers and prospective drivers within designated areas of South Jakarta, West Jakarta, and Central Jakarta can access the service directly through the digital platform.

The company selected these zones due to their high volume of daily commuters, heavy traffic congestion, and strong demand for swift, nimble last-mile transportation. To ensure seamless operations, Green SM has concurrently broken ground on a supporting infrastructure network, focusing on the establishment of dedicated battery-swapping stations and rapid-charging hubs. This foundational infrastructure is deemed critical to preventing range anxiety among drivers and ensuring high vehicle uptime throughout grueling daily shifts.

At the heart of the Green SM Bike fleet are two prominent models from VinFast: the VinFast Evo and the Feliz II. These electric scooters have been meticulously chosen for their robust build quality, comfortable ergonomics, and reliable battery performance, making them ideal for navigating the demanding traffic conditions characteristic of Greater Jakarta.

Flexible Financial Schemes and Rent-to-Own Opportunities for Drivers

A cornerstone of Green SM’s market entry strategy is its driver-centric partnership model, which provides flexible vehicle access options designed to lower the traditional financial barriers associated with entering the ride-hailing industry. Rather than requiring drivers to make heavy upfront investments to purchase a vehicle, Green SM has rolled out a competitive rent-to-own program, alongside conventional short-term rental agreements.

Under the rent-to-own framework, prospective driver-partners can utilize a VinFast electric motorcycle for a daily cost starting at just IDR 39,000. This nominal daily fee is structured to give drivers manageable overhead costs while working toward eventual vehicle ownership. According to corporate guidelines, drivers who maintain active participation in the program and fulfill operational milestones over a continuous two-year period can ultimately take full legal ownership of the motorcycle.

For those who prefer not to commit to a long-term purchase agreement, Green SM offers flexible rental agreements spanning three, six, or twelve months. Drivers opting for these short-to-medium-term rental contracts are required to pay a modest initial security deposit of IDR 150,000 to secure their vehicle unit. Furthermore, to ease the financial transition during the initial onboarding phase, the company has incorporated guaranteed daily earning potentials of up to IDR 160,000 for qualifying drivers during their first two months of service, complemented by performance-based bonuses.

Comprehensive Driver Recruitment, Qualifications, and Safety Training

To maintain high service standards and passenger safety, Green SM has established a rigorous screening and onboarding process for its prospective driver-partners. Candidates wishing to join the Green SM Bike network must meet specific demographic and administrative criteria. Applicants must be between 21 and 54 years and six months of age, possess a valid Indonesian driving license for motorcycles (SIM C), and provide essential identification documents, including a national identity card (KTP), family card (KK), and a police clearance certificate (SKCK). Additionally, drivers must own a compatible smartphone equipped with reliable internet connectivity to manage ride-hailing dispatches and digital navigation efficiently.

In line with recent collaborative efforts involving Indonesian transport authorities—including safety consultations with the National Traffic Police Corps (Korlantas Polri)—Green SM places heavy emphasis on comprehensive pre-service training. Recruited drivers undergo mandatory training modules covering customer service excellence, safe electric vehicle operation, defensive driving techniques, and navigation mastery across Jakarta’s complex labyrinth of streets and arterial roads.

The company emphasizes that the application and selection process for Green SM Bike is entirely free of registration charges. The only mandatory financial outlay prior to receiving the vehicle unit is the standard IDR 150,000 security deposit, ensuring transparency and accessibility for independent workers seeking stable livelihoods.

Strategic Background and Expansion Trajectory

Green SM’s entry into Jakarta’s electric motorcycle sector represents a calculated expansion of its overarching Southeast Asian footprint. Having previously established its presence in Indonesia through a commercial electric taxi fleet, the company’s corporate leadership recognized the vast potential of the country’s two-wheeler market, where millions of citizens rely on motorcycles for daily commuting.

The choice of VinFast as the exclusive vehicle supplier underscores a synergy between Vietnamese green technology manufacturers aiming to capture regional market share in the fast-growing electric vehicle sector. As Indonesia aggressively pursues its national target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner, the introduction of commercial electric fleets by foreign and domestic players alike serves as a vital catalyst for consumer acceptance of green mobility.

Despite encountering initial administrative and operational hurdles in other sectors of its Indonesian business—such as regulatory inquiries and safety audits concerning its four-wheeler operations—Green SM has maintained a proactive stance regarding compliance and safety governance. Engagement with local regulatory bodies, including the Ministry of Transportation and Korlantas Polri, reflects an institutional commitment to aligning corporate growth with national transport safety regulations.

Fact-Based Analysis of Economic and Environmental Implications

The introduction of Green SM Bike into the Jakarta metropolitan area carries multifaceted implications for the local transportation ecosystem, labor market, and environmental landscape.

From an environmental perspective, replacing internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles with electric alternatives directly mitigates urban air pollution. Jakarta has historically grappled with severe particulate matter and greenhouse gas emissions, heavily exacerbated by millions of fossil-fuel-powered two-wheelers operating continuously across the city. By transitioning ride-hailing fleets to electric power, Green SM contributes to localized reductions in carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, supporting municipal clean-air initiatives.

Economically, the rent-to-own model introduced by Green SM addresses a critical pain point for gig-economy workers: asset ownership and high operational costs. Traditional ojek online drivers frequently face steep rental fees for traditional motorcycles or struggle with high fuel and maintenance expenses. By offering electric motorcycles with low daily overhead and predictable maintenance costs, the rent-to-own scheme potentially enhances the net disposable income of driver-partners. However, industry analysts note that the ultimate financial success of individual drivers will depend heavily on platform trip allocation algorithms, localized demand fluctuations, and battery-swapping efficiency.

Looking forward, Green SM has signaled its intention to monitor the operational performance of its Jakarta pilot program closely, with prospective roadmaps pointing toward geographic expansion into other major Indonesian urban centers. As the electric vehicle infrastructure matures and consumer familiarity with brands like VinFast grows, the competitive landscape of Indonesia’s ride-hailing industry is poised for a profound, sustainable transformation.

GIIAS 2026 Digelar di Semarang, Intip Deretan Mobil dan Motor yang Bakal Melantai

by Nana
written by Nana

Following a highly successful series of exhibitions in Jakarta’s ICE BSD City, Surabaya, and Bandung, the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) The Series 2026 is set to arrive in Central Java. The Semarang iteration of this premier automotive exhibition will take place from September 30 to October 4, 2026, hosted at the prestigious Muladi Dome within the Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) complex. This event marks the fifth consecutive year that Semarang has been featured as a cornerstone city in the GIIAS national circuit, highlighting the growing significance of the Central Java region in the broader Indonesian automotive landscape.

Strategic Importance of the Central Java Automotive Market

The selection of Semarang as a host city for GIIAS is far from arbitrary. As the capital of Central Java, Semarang serves as a vital logistics and economic artery for the province. The automotive industry in Indonesia has been steadily decentralizing, shifting focus from a purely Jabodetabek-centric model to one that emphasizes regional growth and provincial distribution.

According to data provided by the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), the Central Java market has demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth potential. As of April 2026, the region recorded total sales of 14,195 vehicles, accounting for approximately 5.1 percent of the total national market share. While this percentage may appear modest compared to the massive volumes seen in West Java or Jakarta, industry analysts suggest that the steady growth rate in Central Java indicates a rising middle class and an increasing demand for both entry-level passenger vehicles and commercial transport solutions.

The Evolution of GIIAS: A National Roadshow

GIIAS has historically functioned as the primary launchpad for new vehicle models, cutting-edge automotive technologies, and advancements in sustainable mobility. The transition from a single annual event in Jakarta to a national series—The Series—has allowed manufacturers to engage directly with consumers in major provincial hubs.

The chronology of the 2026 series began with the flagship event at ICE BSD, where major global manufacturers showcased their latest internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, hybrids, and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). By bringing this exhibition to Bandung, Surabaya, and now Semarang, GAIKINDO aims to demystify new technologies for regional consumers. For many residents of Central Java, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to engage with global brands in an interactive environment, facilitating test drives and direct consultations with manufacturer representatives.

Emphasizing the Shift Toward Electric Mobility

One of the central themes of GIIAS Semarang 2026 will be the integration and adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs). The Indonesian government has set ambitious targets for the transition to a greener transportation ecosystem, and Central Java is increasingly being viewed as a potential hub for both the distribution and future servicing of electric fleets.

Kukuh Kumara, the Secretary-General of GAIKINDO, emphasized that the regional exhibitions are designed to align with the government’s vision of a carbon-neutral automotive sector. "Jawa Tengah has a very significant opportunity for the national automotive industry," Kumara stated. "The potential for the Central Java market is strengthening alongside the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in the region."

GIIAS 2026 Digelar di Semarang, Intip Deretan Mobil dan Motor yang Bakal Melantai

This shift is supported by local infrastructure projects. The expansion of charging station networks (SPKLU) across the Trans-Java Toll Road has made the ownership of electric vehicles more practical for residents in Semarang and surrounding areas, effectively removing the "range anxiety" that previously hindered EV adoption in secondary cities.

Technical and Economic Implications for the Region

The arrival of GIIAS in Semarang is expected to stimulate the local economy in several distinct ways. Beyond the direct sales generated during the five-day event, the exhibition serves as a massive gathering for automotive supply chains, financiers, and local entrepreneurs.

  1. Financial Services Integration: The automotive sector is heavily reliant on vehicle financing. During GIIAS Semarang, banks and multi-finance companies often offer promotional interest rates and flexible down payment options. This, combined with the presence of multiple brands under one roof, allows consumers to compare financing packages, which historically leads to a spike in purchasing activity during the event.
  2. Infrastructure and Logistics: The choice of the Muladi Dome at UNDIP highlights the intersection of academic innovation and industrial application. The university setting provides an opportunity for industry leaders to engage with students and local researchers regarding the future of engineering, vehicle design, and maintenance, fostering a local talent pipeline for the automotive sector.
  3. Regional Market Development: By hosting a high-profile exhibition, Semarang solidifies its position as a secondary hub that can compete with the purchasing power of East Java. This encourages automotive manufacturers to invest more in regional dealerships, service centers, and spare parts distribution hubs, ultimately reducing the cost of ownership for Central Javanese consumers.

Challenges and Future Outlook

While the growth in Central Java is promising, the automotive industry faces ongoing challenges. Global supply chain fluctuations, raw material costs, and the need for a stable regulatory environment remain critical factors.

The Indonesian government’s recent efforts to refine financial regulations—such as those implemented by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) concerning the legitimacy of funds used in financial markets—reflect a broader trend toward institutional transparency. While these regulations are specifically targeted at stock markets, they create a ripple effect of compliance and professionalism across all sectors, including automotive finance, ensuring that the industry remains robust and resistant to systemic risks.

GIIAS 2026 Digelar di Semarang, Intip Deretan Mobil dan Motor yang Bakal Melantai

Looking forward, the success of GIIAS Semarang 2026 will be measured not only by the number of units sold during the five-day window but also by the long-term commitment of manufacturers to the region. If the sales trajectory continues to outperform the 5.1 percent national contribution, industry analysts predict that manufacturers will increase their allocation of new vehicle stock to Central Java, potentially leading to faster delivery times and more competitive pricing for local consumers.

Conclusion: A Pivotal Event for Central Java

As the automotive industry continues to pivot toward a sustainable and technologically advanced future, GIIAS Semarang 2026 stands as a testament to the importance of regional engagement. The event is more than a trade show; it is a vital indicator of the health of Indonesia’s economic decentralization.

For the people of Semarang, the upcoming exhibition is an invitation to witness the latest innovations in mobility firsthand. For GAIKINDO and the participating brands, it is a calculated effort to tap into the burgeoning potential of one of Indonesia’s most promising markets. As the industry gathers at the Muladi Dome this September, the focus will remain on how these new technologies can best serve the diverse needs of the Central Javanese populace, balancing modern performance with the imperative of environmental responsibility.

The exhibition is expected to draw thousands of visitors, ranging from automotive enthusiasts and prospective buyers to industry professionals and academic researchers. With the event scheduled to run from September 30 to October 4, 2026, all eyes will be on the sales figures and public reception to determine the next phase of the Indonesian automotive industry’s expansion into the heart of Java.

Gen. Carsten Breuer Appointed as NATO Military Committee Chairman to Lead Alliance Through Critical Era of European Defense Transformation

by Nana
written by Nana

BERLIN — In a significant development for European security architecture, German General Carsten Breuer has been elected as the next chairman of the NATO Military Committee. The appointment comes at a pivotal juncture for the transatlantic alliance, as European member states aggressively reform and expand their armed forces to counter mounting geopolitical instability and potential Russian aggression.

General Breuer, who currently serves as the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr—Germany’s unified armed forces—will succeed Italian Navy Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. Breuer’s prestigious three-year tenure is formally scheduled to commence in the summer of 2027. His selection reflects not only his extensive military pedigree but also Germany’s evolving and increasingly assertive role in collective regional defense.

The decision was finalized during the annual conference of the NATO Military Committee in Copenhagen, where the chiefs of defense from all allied member states cast their votes. The Military Committee functions as the alliance’s highest military authority, providing crucial strategic advice to NATO’s civilian leadership and coordinating joint military operations and doctrine across all member nations.

The Rise of General Carsten Breuer

General Carsten Breuer has built a reputation as a pragmatic, crisis-tested strategist over a distinguished decades-long military career. He rose to international prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic when he was tapped to lead Germany’s federal crisis coordination cell, where he successfully mobilized logistical and medical support nationwide.

However, his most consequential mandate began when he was appointed Inspector General of the Bundeswehr in 2023. Stepping into the role shortly after the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine war, Breuer became the chief architect of the Zeitenwende—Germany’s historic defense policy shift aimed at reversing decades of underinvestment and modernizing its military capabilities. Under his leadership, the German military has focused heavily on operational readiness, digital transformation, and restructuring its combat brigades to align with NATO’s enhanced forward presence on the eastern flank.

Breuer’s appointment to one of the most powerful uniformed positions within the Western alliance is seen by defense analysts as a vote of confidence in Germany’s military renaissance. By placing a German general at the helm of its primary military advisory body, NATO is signaling a balanced distribution of leadership among its major European and North American stakeholders.

Strategic Implications and Defense Spending Context

The selection of a German military leader to head the NATO Military Committee occurs against a backdrop of sweeping transformation in European defense economics and strategic priorities. For years, Germany faced persistent criticism from allies—most notably the United States—for failing to meet NATO’s benchmark target of allocating 2 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to defense.

Siapa Carsten Breuer? Jenderal Jerman yang Ditunjuk sebagai Pejabat Militer NATO

That dynamic has shifted dramatically. According to recent economic and defense data, Germany has rapidly scaled up its military expenditure, currently ranking first among European NATO members in absolute defense spending, with allocations reaching approximately €125 billion ($143 billion). This massive fiscal injection is funding the procurement of advanced air defense systems, modern armored vehicles, fifth-generation fighter jets, and critical infrastructure upgrades necessary for high-intensity collective defense.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius welcomed Breuer’s appointment, describing the election as international recognition of Berlin’s growing contributions to the alliance. "This is a testament to the rigorous steps Germany has taken to reinforce the security of the alliance and assume greater responsibility in safeguarding our shared values," Pistorius stated following the vote in Copenhagen.

The elevation of German officials to senior command positions within NATO reflects a broader trend of Berlin stepping out of its post-Cold War strategic reticence. As the war in Ukraine enters a protracted phase, European capitals are increasingly aware of the imperative to build a robust "European pillar" within NATO that can deter aggression independently while remaining fully interoperable with United States forces.

Chronology of NATO’s Military Leadership Transition

The transition of leadership within the NATO Military Committee follows a carefully structured multi-year cycle designed to ensure seamless continuity in strategic planning.

  • Early 2023: General Carsten Breuer assumes office as the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, immediately prioritizing the overhaul of Germany’s armed forces in response to the security crisis in Eastern Europe.
  • Mid-2024 to 2025: NATO member states initiate informal consultations regarding the succession of the Military Committee chairmanship, evaluating candidates based on operational experience, geopolitical acumen, and their respective nations’ commitment to alliance defense benchmarks.
  • September 2026: During the annual NATO Military Committee conference in Copenhagen, allied chiefs of defense formally vote to elect General Breuer as the next chairman.
  • Summer 2027: General Breuer is scheduled to officially take over the chairmanship from outgoing Italian Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, beginning his three-year mandate at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

Broader Impact on Transatlantic Relations

As General Breuer prepares to step into his new role in 2027, he will inherit a security environment characterized by profound complexity. Beyond the immediate imperative of deterring Russian military expansion, the next NATO Military Committee chairman will oversee the integration of newly joined members, manage the ongoing adaptation of alliance command structures, and navigate shifting political dynamics in Washington and European capitals.

Defense experts note that Breuer’s background in managing large-scale institutional transformation will be an asset for NATO. The alliance is currently modernizing its regional defense plans—the most comprehensive overhaul since the Cold War—requiring member states to commit specific forces to pre-assigned geographic zones. Ensuring that these national contributions translate into cohesive, combat-ready formations will be one of Breuer’s primary responsibilities.

Furthermore, Breuer’s leadership is expected to reinforce the bond between European defense initiatives and NATO frameworks. As the European Union pursues closer defense industrial cooperation, maintaining strategic alignment with NATO remains vital to avoid duplication and ensure resource efficiency.

With his appointment, Germany cements its position not only as a logistical and financial anchor for European security but also as a intellectual driver of military strategy within the world’s most powerful defensive alliance.

Understanding the Growth Mindset and Its Critical Role in Professional and Personal Achievement

by Layla Zulfa
written by Layla Zulfa

The psychological framework surrounding human potential has long been divided into two primary categories: the growth mindset and the fixed mindset. Coined by Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck in her seminal research, these concepts delineate how individuals perceive their own intelligence, abilities, and capacity for development. While a fixed mindset operates on the assumption that traits are innate and static, a growth mindset—or the belief that intelligence can be cultivated through effort, strategy, and mentorship—has emerged as a vital predictor of long-term success in both academic and corporate environments. Understanding the distinct behaviors associated with this mindset is not merely a matter of self-help, but a fundamental study of human performance and organizational resilience.

The Origins of Mindset Theory: A Historical Context

The conceptualization of the growth mindset began in the late 20th century when Carol Dweck and her colleagues observed how students responded to failure. In a series of longitudinal studies, researchers noted that children who were praised for their effort—rather than their inherent intelligence—demonstrated higher levels of resilience when confronted with increasingly difficult academic tasks.

By the early 2000s, Dweck’s research had transcended the classroom, finding a significant foothold in business management and leadership development. The core thesis—that the brain acts like a muscle that grows stronger with exercise—began to influence how human resource departments approached recruitment and training. The distinction is stark: those with a fixed mindset often view success as a validation of their innate talent, while those with a growth mindset view success as the result of a rigorous, iterative process of improvement.

Core Pillars of the Growth Mindset

Individuals who adopt a growth mindset do not operate in a vacuum; their worldview is defined by a consistent set of behavioral patterns. These traits are not inherent personality types but are, ironically, mindsets that can be learned and nurtured.

1. Redefining the Role of Failure

In many traditional corporate cultures, failure is stigmatized, often leading to risk-aversion and stagnant innovation. Conversely, those with a growth mindset view failure as an essential data point. When an outcome does not meet expectations, the individual does not internalize it as a reflection of their worth. Instead, they conduct a "post-mortem" analysis to determine which variables led to the suboptimal result. This shifts the focus from "I failed" to "What did I learn from this process that can be applied to the next iteration?"

2. The Embrace of Constructive Friction

One of the most defining characteristics of a growth mindset is the willingness to accept and seek out feedback. In a professional setting, this manifests as an openness to 360-degree performance reviews and a preference for direct, actionable criticism over vague praise. While the human ego naturally recoils from negative feedback, those with a growth mindset perceive such input as a tool for optimization. They recognize that their current blind spots are merely areas of future competency.

3. Intelligence as a Dynamic Variable

Perhaps the most significant difference between fixed and growth mindsets is the perception of intelligence. A fixed mindset assumes that intelligence is a fixed "quota" assigned at birth. If an individual struggles with a complex task, they conclude they simply lack the capacity to master it. A growth-oriented individual, however, views intelligence as a dynamic variable. They are more likely to seek out training, mentorship, and new methodologies to bridge the gap between their current skill set and the requirements of the task.

Empirical Data and Organizational Impact

Recent studies in industrial-organizational psychology have provided quantitative support for the benefits of a growth mindset. According to data published by the Harvard Business Review, companies that foster a culture of growth mindset among their employees report 47% higher levels of innovation and 34% greater commitment to their organizations compared to companies with fixed-mindset cultures.

Furthermore, a longitudinal analysis of workforce performance reveals that teams characterized by "learning goals" rather than "performance goals" show higher agility in volatile market conditions. When a market shift occurs, teams with a growth mindset focus on the acquisition of new knowledge, whereas fixed-mindset teams often struggle to adapt, fearing that the need to learn new skills reveals a lack of previous expertise.

Chronology of Mindset Integration in the Workplace

The adoption of growth mindset principles in professional sectors has occurred in three distinct phases:

  • Phase I (The Academic Foundation, 1980s–1990s): Initial studies focused on how students attributed success and failure, establishing the link between effort-based praise and improved outcomes.
  • Phase II (The Corporate Shift, 2000s–2010s): Tech giants and innovative firms began integrating mindset training into their leadership development programs, realizing that technical skill without the capacity for adaptation leads to organizational obsolescence.
  • Phase III (The Modern Standardization, 2020s–Present): In the wake of global disruptions, such as the rapid transition to remote work and the integration of artificial intelligence, the growth mindset has become a prerequisite for "upskilling" and "reskilling" initiatives globally.

Analysis: The Risks of the Fixed Mindset

The primary danger of a fixed mindset is the "imposter syndrome" cycle. When individuals believe their success is entirely dependent on an innate, static talent, they become hypersensitive to any feedback that suggests they are not experts. This leads to a defensive posture where the individual stops taking risks to avoid the possibility of appearing incompetent.

In a modern, rapidly evolving economy, this behavior is a liability. Organizations that fail to cultivate a growth mindset often find themselves struggling with "knowledge silos" and a workforce that is resistant to the implementation of new technologies. The implication is clear: the most talented employee with a fixed mindset will eventually be outperformed by an employee of average talent who possesses a growth mindset and a commitment to continuous iteration.

The Role of Leadership in Fostering Growth

Leadership experts often note that the "mindset culture" of a company starts at the top. If a CEO or manager expresses that they do not know the answer to a problem and encourages the team to find it, they are modeling the growth mindset. This transparency is crucial. When leaders admit to their own developmental journeys, it creates a psychological safety net that allows subordinates to take the necessary risks to drive growth.

A study conducted by Microsoft, a corporation that famously pivoted its culture toward a growth mindset under CEO Satya Nadella, highlights that the "know-it-all" culture must be replaced by a "learn-it-all" culture. This requires a systemic shift in how performance is measured, shifting the focus from short-term output to long-term capability building.

Broader Implications and Future Trends

As we look toward the future, the integration of artificial intelligence and automation will fundamentally alter the nature of work. Repetitive tasks will be delegated to machines, leaving humans to handle roles that require complex problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking. These tasks are, by definition, fluid. They require a person to constantly update their knowledge base and adapt to new frameworks.

Consequently, the growth mindset is transitioning from a "soft skill" to a core economic requirement. Educational institutions are beginning to pivot their curricula to reward the process of learning rather than rote memorization. Similarly, hiring managers are increasingly using behavioral interview questions designed to identify a candidate’s willingness to learn from failure rather than their past accolades.

Conclusion

The distinction between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset is not merely a theoretical exercise; it is a practical framework for navigating a complex world. By embracing the reality that intelligence and capability are malleable, individuals can unlock levels of potential that were previously thought unattainable.

The path to professional and personal development is not a straight line, but a series of challenges, failures, and subsequent refinements. Those who are capable of viewing these challenges as necessary catalysts for growth—rather than as threats to their identity—will invariably define the next generation of leadership and innovation. Whether in the boardroom or the classroom, the commitment to "learning how to learn" remains the most sustainable competitive advantage an individual can possess in the 21st century. As the professional landscape continues to evolve, the capacity to remain open, adaptable, and persistent will continue to separate the successful from the stagnant.
