Hanwha Life Indonesia Strengthens Market Position with New Sudirman Office, Robust Financials, and Sustainable Growth Strategy

by Iffa Jayyana
written by Iffa Jayyana

Marking a significant milestone in its more than a decade-long journey in the Indonesian archipelago, Hanwha Life, one of the premier life insurance giants originating from South Korea, has officially inaugurated its new corporate headquarters. Located strategically on the 9th floor of World Trade Center (WTC) 1 in Sudirman, Central Jakarta, the newly established office features a state-of-the-art Social Hub designed to foster cross-departmental collaboration, innovation, and dynamic teamwork. This infrastructural upgrade reflects the company’s broader ambition to consolidate its presence in Southeast Asia’s largest economy, where it has successfully served over one million policyholders.

The unveiling of the modern office space serves as a physical manifestation of a deeper corporate evolution. As Hanwha Life looks toward the future, the firm is doubling down on strengthening its business fundamentals, optimizing operational efficiency, and elevating product and service standards for Indonesian consumers. This strategic pivot comes at a time when the Indonesian life insurance sector is experiencing complex regulatory shifts, changing consumer demands driven by digital transformation, and an increasingly competitive landscape populated by both domestic and international heavyweights.

Navigating Financial Trajectory and Premium Revenue Growth

A closer examination of Hanwha Life’s financial reports reveals a consistent upward trajectory, reinforcing the management’s optimistic outlook for the coming years. In the fiscal year 2025, the company posted a notable premium revenue of IDR 295.15 billion, translating into a robust 16.7% growth compared to the IDR 252.95 billion recorded in 2024. Building upon this momentum, the corporate leadership has set an ambitious target to scale its premium revenue to IDR 322.80 billion by the close of 2026.

This aggressive yet calculated expansion strategy is already bearing fruit. According to financial disclosures for the first half of 2026, Hanwha Life registered a premium revenue of IDR 172.29 billion. This figure represents an impressive 18.85% year-on-year increase compared to the IDR 144.96 billion achieved during the corresponding period in 2025. More importantly, this mid-term performance indicates that the company has already fulfilled approximately 53% of its total premium revenue target for the entirety of 2026, putting it well ahead of schedule to meet its annual financial projections.

Kim Si Jun, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Hanwha Life Indonesia, emphasized that the deliberate pivot toward sustainable financial practices has been the primary catalyst for these results. "This year, Hanwha Life is fundamentally focused on a sustainable growth strategy. That focus has already yielded concrete results. Up to the first semester of 2026, we have successfully captured robust growth, putting us in a strong position to comfortably achieve our broader financial milestones for the year," stated Kim Si Jun.

Robust Solvency and Asset Expansion Amid Regulatory Excellence

Underpinning this revenue growth is an exceptionally strong balance sheet and stringent risk management frameworks. Hanwha Life’s total asset portfolio has demonstrated steady appreciation. In 2025, the company closed the fiscal year with total assets amounting to IDR 2.14 trillion. By the end of the first semester of 2026, this figure expanded further to reach IDR 2.19 trillion, showcasing the firm’s capacity to accumulate capital and effectively manage its investment portfolios.

Perhaps the most striking indicator of Hanwha Life’s financial health is its Risk-Based Capital (RBC) ratio. In the insurance sector, the RBC ratio serves as the ultimate litmus test for a company’s financial solvency and its ability to absorb unexpected economic shocks or catastrophic claims. While the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan or OJK) mandates a strict minimum threshold of 120% for insurance companies operating within the country, Hanwha Life has consistently outperformed this benchmark by an astronomical margin.

In 2025, the company maintained an RBC ratio of 1,241.32%. Demonstrating even greater capital strength, Hanwha Life’s RBC ratio surged to an extraordinary 1,958.03% by the close of the first semester of 2026. This towering solvency margin provides an ironclad guarantee to the company’s policyholders, ensuring that Hanwha Life possesses more than adequate capital reserves to honor all long-term financial commitments under any foreseeable macroeconomic scenario.

This disciplined approach to asset-liability management, corporate governance, and regulatory adherence has not gone unnoticed by independent evaluators. Over the course of 2026, Hanwha Life added several prestigious accolades to its corporate trophy case. On May 22, 2026, the company was honored with the Indonesia Regulatory Compliance Award 2026, validating its strict alignment with local financial laws and statutory frameworks. Shortly thereafter, on June 30, 2026, Hanwha Life received the Indonesia Excellence GCG Awards 2026, cementing its reputation as a benchmark for Good Corporate Governance (GCG) within the domestic financial services industry.

Chronology of Strategic Expansion and Technological Integration

Hanwha Life’s journey in Indonesia has been characterized by steady, methodical expansion punctuated by strategic technological and operational milestones. Entering the Indonesian market over a decade ago, the company initially focused on establishing a solid foothold in major metropolitan areas, gradually expanding its agency network and forging bancassurance partnerships to capture a diverse customer base.

Over the years, the management recognized that traditional insurance models alone would be insufficient to capture the tech-savvy younger demographic and meet the demands of an increasingly digitized economy. Consequently, the company initiated a multi-phased digital transformation program. This digital overhaul was dramatically highlighted by the recent introduction of advanced technological solutions, notably the integration of artificial intelligence into customer service and advisory workflows.

By introducing cutting-edge innovations such as AI-powered financial advisory tools, Hanwha Life positioned itself at the forefront of insurtech adoption in Indonesia. These digital tools are designed to assist human agents in providing more accurate, personalized, and swift financial planning services to clients, thereby optimizing the conversion funnel and enhancing overall policyholder satisfaction.

The culmination of this technological integration, paired with rigorous structural reforms, set the stage for the recent physical expansion. The relocation of the corporate headquarters to WTC 1 Sudirman and the unveiling of the collaborative Social Hub in mid-2026 mark the transition into a new era. This physical workspace redesign is intentionally aligned with hybrid working models and cross-functional synergy, ensuring that internal teams can collaborate more effectively to support the expanding agent network and millions of insured individuals across the archipelago.

Broader Industry Implications and Market Outlook

Hanwha Life’s strong performance and strategic maneuvers carry significant implications for the broader Indonesian insurance landscape. As the nation continues to navigate global economic uncertainties, currency fluctuations, and shifting consumer sentiment, the life insurance sector has faced considerable pressure to modernize, recapitalize, and restore public trust following historical governance issues among select industry players.

In this context, Hanwha Life’s soaring RBC ratio of nearly 2,000% serves as a powerful signal to the market. It demonstrates that foreign-backed institutional players with disciplined underwriting standards, rigorous risk management protocols, and substantial financial backing from parent conglomerates can thrive and maintain exceptional solvency margins even in complex emerging markets. This stability helps elevate consumer confidence in the life insurance sector as a whole, encouraging higher penetration rates in a country where insurance literacy and penetration traditionally lag behind regional peers.

Furthermore, the company’s emphasis on sustainable growth—balancing aggressive top-line premium expansion with strict bottom-line discipline and compliance—offers a blueprint for other market participants. Rather than chasing short-term volume through high-risk products, Hanwha Life has chosen to optimize its business portfolio, adhere strictly to regulatory compliance, and invest heavily in human capital and technological infrastructure.

Looking ahead to the remainder of 2026 and beyond, the roadmap for Hanwha Life Indonesia appears firmly established. With over 53% of its annual premium revenue target already secured by the end of the first semester, the firm is well-positioned to meet or exceed its full-year projection of IDR 322.80 billion. The combination of a world-class collaborative workspace at WTC Sudirman, an empowered workforce utilizing AI-driven tools, an unassailable capital buffer, and a clear commitment to sustainable business practices ensures that Hanwha Life will remain a formidable pillar of Indonesia’s financial services ecosystem for decades to come.

BPBD South Jakarta Distributes 44,000 Liters of Clean Water to Mitigate Impacts of Prolonged Drought

by Neng Nana
written by Neng Nana

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Jakarta has launched a critical humanitarian operation to alleviate the suffering of residents affected by a severe, prolonged drought that has gripped the region. As of Saturday, September 19, 2026, authorities have successfully distributed 44,000 liters of clean water to 195 households spread across six kelurahans (villages) and 23 neighborhood units (RT). This intervention serves as a vital lifeline for communities currently struggling with the depletion of groundwater sources and the failure of local wells, which have been exacerbated by an unusually intense and extended dry season.

The distribution effort is part of a broader, coordinated response mandated by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, aimed at ensuring municipal readiness in the face of escalating climate-related challenges. By mobilizing water tankers to the most vulnerable areas, the city administration seeks to prevent a public health crisis that often accompanies severe water scarcity, including the potential for sanitation issues and the spread of waterborne diseases.

Chronology of the Crisis and Response Efforts

The onset of the current drought began to manifest in early August 2026, as rainfall patterns shifted significantly below the historical average for the Greater Jakarta area. By late August, local community leaders began reporting a noticeable drop in the water table, rendering shallow wells—the primary water source for many households—inoperable.

As the situation deteriorated, the South Jakarta BPBD, led by Task Force Head Sukendar, initiated a systematic assessment process. This involved a collaborative effort between municipal officials and local community leaders to map out the most critically impacted zones. "The government of South Jakarta, in close coordination with neighborhood administrators, has been conducting comprehensive data collection on the affected population over the past few weeks," Sukendar noted during the press briefing on Saturday.

Following the verification of data, the operational phase commenced. The BPBD Jakarta Selatan collaborated extensively with PAM Jaya, the municipal water utility company, to source and transport the necessary volume of potable water. The deployment of tankers into the affected neighborhoods represents a logistical success, covering 23 RTs across six distinct administrative villages within a timeframe of less than one week.

Data Analysis and Distribution Logistics

The distribution of 44,000 liters of water represents a significant logistical undertaking, particularly given the dense urban landscape of South Jakarta. Each household in the affected regions requires a baseline of clean water for daily hygiene, cooking, and consumption. While the immediate supply provides temporary relief, the sheer scale of the affected population—195 households—underscores the intensity of the hydrological stress currently affecting the region.

Water scarcity in Jakarta is a multifaceted issue. While the current drought is the primary driver, it is compounded by long-standing issues such as excessive groundwater extraction, the prevalence of non-piped water usage in residential areas, and the reduction of permeable ground surfaces due to rapid urban development. The current intervention by the BPBD acts as a reactive measure, but it also highlights the urgent need for long-term water management strategies.

Official Responses and Institutional Coordination

The response to the water crisis has been framed as a multi-agency commitment to public safety. According to official statements from the provincial government, the readiness of the BPBD is a direct implementation of the Governor’s directive regarding drought preparedness. This directive mandates that all regional disaster agencies remain on high alert to provide immediate assistance to residents in need.

"We are committed to ensuring that the basic needs of our citizens are met, even under extreme environmental conditions," said an official from the provincial administration. The collaboration with PAM Jaya is particularly significant, as it bridges the gap between emergency disaster response and established utility infrastructure. By leveraging the technical capacity of the water utility, the city is able to maintain a consistent quality of water for distribution, thereby mitigating the risk of distributing contaminated or untreated water to the public.

Furthermore, the involvement of local neighborhood and community leaders has been essential in the success of the distribution. These local figures serve as the primary conduits of information, identifying which specific households are at the highest risk and ensuring that the water reaches those who lack the physical or financial means to access it elsewhere.

Broader Implications of Urban Drought

The drought currently impacting South Jakarta is a microcosm of the larger climate challenges facing Indonesia’s capital. The frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, including prolonged dry spells, have become increasingly common in recent years. This trend poses serious implications for urban planning and public resource management.

Kemarau Panjang, BPBD Jaksel Salurkan 44.000 Liter Air ke 195 KK Terdampak Kekeringan
  1. Hydrological Stress: The reliance on groundwater has led to land subsidence in many parts of Jakarta. During drought years, the increased dependency on private well extraction accelerates this phenomenon, leading to potential structural damage to infrastructure and an increased risk of flooding during the subsequent rainy season.
  2. Economic Impact: For low-to-middle-income families, the cost of purchasing water from private vendors during a drought can consume a significant portion of their monthly budget. By providing free, government-subsidized water, the BPBD is essentially providing an economic safety net for those who would otherwise be forced to choose between essential expenditures.
  3. Infrastructure Limitations: The current crisis highlights the need for the expansion of the piped water network. Many of the affected RTs are located in areas where traditional piping has not yet reached full capacity, leaving residents vulnerable to the vagaries of the local climate.

Future Outlook and Mitigation Strategies

Looking forward, the Jakarta administration is expected to refine its drought response protocols. This includes the development of more sophisticated early warning systems that can predict water shortages based on rainfall deficits and groundwater level monitoring. Furthermore, there is an increasing push toward water conservation and the diversification of water sources, including the utilization of recycled wastewater and the expansion of rainwater harvesting programs for residential areas.

The current 44,000-liter distribution is merely a starting point. As the drought continues, the BPBD remains prepared to scale up its operations. The agency has indicated that they are monitoring weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to prepare for potential extensions of the dry season. If conditions do not improve in the coming weeks, the scale of the water delivery operation is expected to grow, potentially involving more trucks and more frequent deployment cycles.

The crisis has also sparked a public conversation about the sustainability of urban living in the face of climate change. Citizens are being encouraged to exercise extreme caution in water usage, prioritizing consumption and basic sanitation while reducing non-essential activities.

In conclusion, while the immediate needs of the 195 households in South Jakarta are being addressed through the swift action of the BPBD and its partners, the situation serves as a stark reminder of the city’s environmental vulnerability. The coordination between municipal agencies and the dedication of local personnel have proven effective in the short term, providing a necessary buffer against the harsh realities of the 2026 drought. However, the path toward long-term resilience will require not only emergency response capabilities but also fundamental shifts in how the city manages its most precious resource: water. The ongoing efforts are a testament to the government’s current priority on human security and the essential role of public services in maintaining urban stability during climate-induced disasters.

Journey and Legal Trouble of Julia Prastini Jule: From Content Creator and Divorce from Na Daehoon to Arrest Over Etomidate Vape Cartridges

by Ammar Sabilarrohman
written by Ammar Sabilarrohman

The digital landscape of Indonesian social media was recently shaken by the unexpected apprehension of prominent content creator Julia Prastini, widely recognized by her online moniker Jule. Known extensively for her lifestyle content, previous marriage to South Korean chef and influencer Na Daehoon, and subsequent high-profile life changes, Jule found herself at the center of a severe criminal investigation. Satuan Reserse Narkoba (Narcotics Investigation Unit) of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police officially confirmed her arrest in connection with the possession of electronic cigarette cartridges, commonly known as vapes, containing the restricted pharmaceutical and chemical substance etomidate.

This unfolding legal saga has not only brought regulatory scrutiny upon the lifestyle habits of high-profile digital influencers but has also reignited public discourse regarding the proliferation and regulation of controlled pharmaceutical substances disguised or consumed through modern consumer electronic devices. As law enforcement agencies across Indonesia heighten their vigilance against illicit drug distribution networks operating through unconventional channels, the case involving Julia Prastini serves as a critical focal point for examining the intersection of modern celebrity culture, substance control, and law enforcement procedures.

Chronology of the Investigation and Arrest at a South Jakarta Apartment

The sequence of events leading to the apprehension of Julia Prastini began well before officers knocked on the door of her South Jakarta apartment on Monday, September 14, 2026. According to official statements released by the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, the operation was the direct result of an extensive intelligence-led investigation and tactical case development.

Days prior to the raid on Jule’s residence, local authorities initiated a targeted crackdown focusing on the illegal distribution of specialized vape cartridges suspected of containing controlled chemical agents. During the preliminary phases of this broader operation, investigators successfully identified and detained two female suspects believed to be actively involved in supplying these specialized vaping products. Subsequent interrogations of these primary suspects yielded critical digital communications, transaction logs, and physical evidence that directly pointed toward Julia Prastini as a recipient of the illicit merchandise.

Acting upon this actionable intelligence, a specialized team from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Narcotics Unit mobilized and executed a targeted search at Jule’s residential apartment located in the upscale district of South Jakarta on September 14, 2026. During the methodical sweep of the premises, law enforcement officers uncovered incriminating physical evidence comprising four distinct vape cartridges.

Detailed forensic inspection at the scene revealed that three of the four recovered cartridges were completely empty, bearing clear indications of prior use. However, the fourth cartridge remained fully sealed and loaded with a liquid substance subsequently verified to contain etomidate. Following the successful recovery of these items, Jule was taken into custody without incident and transported immediately to the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police headquarters for intensive questioning and formal processing.

Official Police Statements and the Nature of Etomidate

Addressing the media regarding the high-profile arrest, the Head of the Narcotics Unit at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, AKP Michael Tandayu, provided a comprehensive overview of the evidentiary findings and the tactical steps undertaken by the investigative team. Speaking to journalists on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Tandayu outlined the precise details of the apartment raid and the physical inventory recovered from the scene.

"On September 14, 2026, our narcotics division from the Soekarno-Hatta Police executed an arrest operation targeting a well-known selebgram identified by the initials JP at an apartment complex situated in South Jakarta," stated AKP Michael Tandayu during the press briefing. "During the execution of the search, our personnel successfully located and secured four vape cartridges. Upon initial inspection, three of these units were empty, indicating prior consumption, while the remaining cartridge was completely full and contained the substance etomidate."

The involvement of etomidate in a criminal narcotics and pharmaceutical investigation has drawn significant technical interest from legal and medical experts alike. Etomidate is fundamentally a short-acting intravenous hypnotic agent primarily utilized within clinical medical settings for the induction of general anesthesia and procedural sedation. Because of its potent central nervous system depressant properties, the substance is strictly regulated and classified under pharmaceutical controls, making unauthorized possession, distribution, and recreational consumption illegal under Indonesian health and drug regulations.

Law enforcement officials have expressed growing concern over the illicit diversion of pharmaceutical agents into consumer vaping hardware. The practice of infusing medical sedatives and anesthetics into electronic cigarette liquids represents an evolving challenge for drug enforcement agencies, as standard consumer testing kits often fail to detect specialized pharmaceutical compounds without advanced laboratory chromatography.

Background Context: The Rise, Public Persona, and Life Transitions of Julia Prastini

Long before her legal entanglements dominated national headlines, Julia Prastini had established a formidable presence within the Indonesian digital ecosystem. Rising to prominence as a lifestyle content creator and influencer, Jule cultivated a substantial following across major social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Her content initially resonated deeply with a conservative and family-oriented demographic, largely due to her public persona, lifestyle choices, and her high-profile marriage to Na Daehoon, a South Korean chef and fellow content creator who gained considerable popularity within Indonesia.

The cross-cultural union between Jule and Na Daehoon was frequently spotlighted across lifestyle portals and social media feeds, capturing the imagination of millions of followers who avidly consumed their daily vlogs, family milestones, and collaborative content. However, the marriage eventually encountered irreconcilable differences, culminating in a highly publicized divorce. The dissolution of their marital union marked a profound turning point in Jule’s public trajectory, triggering an intense wave of media scrutiny and public commentary across various digital forums.

Following the formal conclusion of their marriage, Jule’s life underwent a series of visible transformations that continuously fueled online discussions. Among the most widely debated changes was her decision to alter her personal appearance, most notably her choice to remove her hijab. This personal evolution intensified the spotlight cast upon her by netizens and digital commentators, transforming her daily life into a subject of constant public observation. Furthermore, the complexities surrounding the post-divorce dynamics added layers of personal turmoil, particularly concerning matters of child custody and parental responsibilities.

Child Custody Disputes and Post-Divorce Realities

The personal life of Julia Prastini was further complicated by legal and domestic disputes following her separation from Na Daehoon. Beyond the emotional toll of the divorce and the subsequent public commentary regarding her aesthetic transformations, the former couple faced significant challenges concerning the legal arrangements for the care and upbringing of their children.

In the wake of their separation, Na Daehoon publicly addressed the domestic situation through various media channels, clarifying the legal standing of their parental responsibilities. According to statements released by Na Daehoon and supported by official legal documentation, the formal divorce proceedings concluded with a binding judicial decree granting primary legal custody of their children to the South Korean chef. This legal determination became another focal point of public interest, further entrenching Jule’s life within the relentless cycle of celebrity gossip and digital scrutiny before her eventual legal troubles with law enforcement.

Broader Implications of the Case: Celebrity Influence and Pharmaceutical Abuse

The arrest of Julia Prastini in connection with etomidate-infused vape cartridges transcends the boundaries of standard celebrity gossip, offering wider implications for public health, law enforcement strategies, and the ethics of digital influence in modern Indonesia.

First and foremost, the incident highlights a troubling trend regarding the recreational abuse of prescription pharmaceuticals disguised as consumer lifestyle products. Vaping technology, originally marketed as an alternative to traditional tobacco combustion, has increasingly been exploited by illicit networks to distribute controlled chemical substances, synthetic cannabinoids, and regulated anesthetics like etomidate. Because these substances can be vaporized discreetly, they pose a formidable challenge to school administrators, workplace regulators, and law enforcement agencies striving to monitor drug consumption patterns among urban demographics.

Secondly, the case underscores the profound social responsibility borne by public figures and digital influencers. With follower counts reaching into the hundreds of thousands or millions, content creators wield substantial psychological and cultural influence, particularly over impressionable younger audiences. When prominent influencers become entangled in criminal investigations involving controlled substances, it normalizes risky behaviors and tarnishes the digital economy’s credibility. Industry analysts suggest that this high-profile arrest may prompt regulatory bodies and social media platforms to implement stricter oversight regarding the conduct and public messaging of verified content creators.

Furthermore, the legal proceedings moving forward will test the resolve of the Indonesian judicial system in prosecuting pharmaceutical misuse through non-traditional consumption vectors. As the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police continue their ongoing investigation to dismantle the supply chain that furnished the etomidate cartridges to Jule, further arrests of secondary suppliers, couriers, and underground distributors are anticipated in the coming weeks.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

The legal entanglement of Julia Prastini stands as a cautionary narrative illustrating the volatile nature of fame, personal upheaval, and legal accountability. From her initial rise as a celebrated family-oriented content creator and her subsequent transition following a high-profile divorce, Jule’s life has been intensely scrutinized by the public eye. Now, facing formal interrogation and potential criminal charges related to the possession of a restricted pharmaceutical agent, her trajectory has taken a dramatically serious turn.

As the legal process unfolds at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police jurisdiction, the broader public and media observers await formal indictments and court proceedings. Meanwhile, the case remains a stark reminder of the rigorous enforcement measures currently targeting the illegal distribution of controlled substances within Indonesia’s urban centers, signaling that no individual, regardless of digital prominence or celebrity status, remains outside the reach of the law.

Livin Next-G Presents Cleo Nextgen Student League With BG Gold Season 2026–2027 Expands Reach to Five Major Indonesian Cities

by Basiran
written by Basiran

The landscape of Indonesian youth sports is undergoing a significant transformation as the Nextgen Student League (NSL) enters its fourth season. What began as a localized initiative in Surabaya has matured into a nationwide sporting ecosystem. Officially titled Livin Next-G Presents Cleo Nextgen Student League With BG Gold Season 2026–2027, the tournament has scaled its operations to include Surabaya, Semarang, Banjarmasin, Tangerang, and Jakarta. This expansion marks a pivotal moment for the league, which aims to standardize competitive basketball development for students ranging from elementary to high school levels.

The season is scheduled to kick off in the East Java Zone, with matches slated for October 3–25, 2026. The host venue, the Nextgen Arena located on the fourth floor of Ciputra World Mall in Surabaya, serves as the operational headquarters for the opening leg. This move signals a strategic shift in how student athletics are presented, moving away from traditional school gymnasiums toward professional-grade environments that mirror the intensity and production quality of adult professional leagues.

A Legacy of Growth: From Local Court to National Presence

The genesis of the Nextgen Student League was rooted in a simple yet ambitious premise: to provide a consistent, high-frequency competitive environment for student athletes in Surabaya. In its inaugural season, the league was hyper-focused on establishing a sustainable model within East Java. The organizers recognized early on that the primary weakness in Indonesian youth sports was the lack of a structured, long-term calendar. Many existing tournaments were "one-off" events that provided little room for player development or team continuity.

By the second and third seasons, the NSL began to refine its competitive format. They implemented a points-based system that prioritized long-term participation, rewarding teams that consistently engaged in the league’s programming. This shift not only stabilized the league’s attendance but also encouraged schools to treat basketball as a year-round institutional commitment rather than a seasonal extracurricular activity.

As of the 2026–2027 season, the scale of the operation is unprecedented. According to data released by the league, the competition now encompasses over 500 schools and 750 distinct teams, involving more than 8,000 student athletes. This growth trajectory mirrors the increasing demand for high-quality sports infrastructure in Indonesia’s urban centers.

Strategic Expansion and Logistical Complexity

The decision to expand into five distinct cities—Surabaya, Semarang, Banjarmasin, Tangerang, and Jakarta—is a calculated logistical endeavor. Each city presents a unique demographic and sporting culture. Jakarta and Tangerang offer access to a highly competitive pool of talent in the capital region, while Semarang and Banjarmasin represent strategic gateways into Central Java and Kalimantan, respectively.

Sudiantowi Limanauw, the Founder of NSL, commonly referred to as Awen, described this expansion as a foundational pillar for the league’s long-term vision. "The expansion to five cities is more than just a logistical feat; it is a declaration of intent," Awen stated during a press briefing on September 19, 2026. "We are building a bridge between talent identification and professional pathways. By standardizing the environment across these cities, we ensure that a student in Banjarmasin receives the same quality of competitive experience as a student in the heart of Jakarta."

The league’s ability to secure sponsorship from major entities such as Livin Next-G, Cleo, and BG Gold underscores the commercial viability of youth sports. These partnerships provide the financial backbone necessary to maintain professional-grade venues, officiating standards, and health safety protocols, which are often the limiting factors in grassroots sporting initiatives.

The Pedagogical Approach: Beyond the Scoreboard

While the scoreboard remains the primary metric for the players, the NSL administration emphasizes that the league is fundamentally an educational instrument. The organization has integrated a curriculum of "soft skill development" into the tournament structure. Players are not merely trained in dribbling, passing, and shooting; they are subjected to rigorous behavioral expectations that mirror the demands of higher education and professional life.

"When a student steps onto the court in the Nextgen Student League, they are not just playing for a trophy," Awen explained. "They are participating in a microcosm of society. They learn to navigate the pressures of leadership, the necessity of teamwork, the inevitable sting of defeat, and the maturity required to respect an opponent. These are the traits that will carry them forward, whether they pursue a career in basketball or any other professional field."

This focus on holistic development has drawn praise from educators and local government officials, who view the league as a constructive outlet for youth. By formalizing the competitive structure, the NSL helps keep students engaged in school-based activities, which studies have shown correlate with improved academic performance and social integration.

Economic and Social Implications

The growth of the NSL serves as a case study for the broader sports industry in Indonesia. The involvement of various stakeholders—including the schools themselves, the athletes, coaching staffs, parents, and local government—creates a multi-layered ecosystem. The tournament acts as a catalyst for local economies, driving foot traffic to malls and sports facilities, and fostering community engagement.

From a talent development perspective, the NSL functions as a scouting ground. With the increasing sophistication of data analytics in sports, the league provides a longitudinal record of a player’s performance. Scouts from university programs and professional clubs now have access to a reliable, historical database of player statistics, which was previously unavailable in the disorganized landscape of regional school tournaments.

Furthermore, the involvement of major brands indicates a shift in corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies. Companies are moving away from passive sponsorship toward active participation in the growth of the next generation. By supporting the NSL, these brands are essentially investing in the future health and discipline of the nation’s youth.

Future Outlook: The Path to Professionalism

Looking ahead, the organizers of the NSL face the challenge of maintaining quality as they scale. The "Nextgen" model relies heavily on consistent standards, and the introduction of new regional markets requires a robust training program for officials, scorekeepers, and venue managers to ensure the "NSL standard" remains uniform across all five cities.

The 2026–2027 season will likely be a litmus test for this model. If the league can successfully execute its season in these five cities while maintaining high participation numbers and a clean record of fair play, it will likely serve as a blueprint for further expansion in subsequent years. There is potential for the league to eventually cover a broader geographical footprint, potentially including cities in Sumatra or Sulawesi, provided the current operational model proves scalable.

Ultimately, the Livin Next-G Presents Cleo Nextgen Student League With BG Gold is redefining the concept of a "student league." It is transitioning from an event-based model to a system-based model. By providing a consistent, predictable, and highly visible platform for competition, the league is nurturing a culture of excellence among Indonesian students. Whether these athletes go on to become professional basketball players or leaders in other industries, the discipline, teamwork, and mental fortitude they cultivate on the court at the Nextgen Arena will serve as a permanent asset in their development.

As the matches begin in October, the eyes of the Indonesian sports community will be on Surabaya. The success of this season will not be measured solely by who wins the championship, but by the league’s ability to continue fostering an environment where thousands of young Indonesians can learn, compete, and grow together in a structured, professional setting. The evolution of the NSL is a testament to the power of organized youth sports in building a more connected and disciplined future for the next generation of Indonesian leaders.

Tiffany Young Celebrates a Decade of Solo Success with an Electrifying Edge of Calm Tour Performance in Jakarta

by Siti Muinah
written by Siti Muinah

The JIEXPO Theatre in Kemayoran, Jakarta, became the epicenter of a musical milestone on the evening of Saturday, September 19, 2026, as Tiffany Young, the globally acclaimed singer and member of the legendary K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation (SNSD), captivated a sold-out audience during her "Edge of Calm Tour." The concert was not merely a musical performance; it served as a definitive celebration of her 10-year journey as a solo artist, marking a decade of evolution, artistic experimentation, and unwavering dedication to her craft.

A Night of Nostalgia and New Beginnings

The atmosphere within the venue was electric, characterized by a palpable sense of connection between the artist and her fanbase, known as SONEs and individual supporters of her solo career. The concert reached a poignant emotional crescendo during the encore, when Tiffany performed "Into the New World," the seminal 2007 debut track that launched the careers of the members of Girls’ Generation.

Seeing the veteran performer deliver the anthem nearly two decades after its release provided a stark reminder of the longevity and cultural impact of the group. For many in attendance, the performance served as a bridge between the early days of the Hallyu wave and the mature, multifaceted artistry that Tiffany possesses today. Addressing the crowd, Tiffany expressed profound gratitude, acknowledging the symbiotic relationship she has shared with her fans since her debut.

"Thank you for being with me throughout my solo activities for these past 10 years, and thank you so much for the 19 years of togetherness that have allowed me to stand here today," Tiffany remarked, visibly moved by the support. She emphasized that the energy in Jakarta was unlike any other, noting that the messages and cheers from the audience had reached her heart.

The Evolution of a Solo Artist: A Chronology

Tiffany Young’s transition from a member of an ensemble to a formidable solo artist has been marked by deliberate creative choices and a refusal to be pigeonholed. Her journey began in earnest in 2016, a pivotal year that saw the release of her debut solo extended play, I Just Wanna Dance. This move was seen by music critics as a bold step, signaling her transition from the highly polished, synchronized world of K-pop idol groups to a more personal, genre-blending solo identity.

The "Edge of Calm Tour" serves as the promotional vehicle for her latest studio album, also titled Edge of Calm, which was released in August 2026. The tour represents the culmination of a decade of growth. Since 2016, Tiffany has balanced her commitments to Girls’ Generation—including the group’s high-profile 15th-anniversary comeback in 2022—with a robust solo discography that explores synth-pop, R&B, and acoustic balladry.

The setlist in Jakarta provided a comprehensive retrospective of this trajectory. Beyond the tracks from the new Edge of Calm album—including "Codes," "Halfway Honest," "Moment," and the title track itself—the audience was treated to a curated selection of songs that highlight her versatility. Her ability to seamlessly transition from high-energy K-pop hits like "Twinkle" and "Forever 1" to emotive, international standards like Lana Del Rey’s "Young and Beautiful," Rihanna’s "Diamonds," and the timeless Elvis Presley classic "Can’t Help Falling in Love" underscored her status as a global performer capable of transcending cultural and linguistic boundaries.

Analysis of the Edge of Calm Era

The release of Edge of Calm in August 2026 marked a departure from the high-tempo dance tracks that defined her initial solo years. Music industry analysts suggest that this album represents a "coming of age" for Tiffany, both as a vocalist and a songwriter. By focusing on more introspective, mid-tempo compositions, the album allows her vocal range—often overlooked in the high-octane production of group tracks—to take center stage.

In Jakarta, the live arrangement of "Summer’s Not Over" and "Drip Drop" demonstrated a sophisticated production quality that aligns with current global pop trends. The concert production, featuring meticulous lighting design and a focus on intimate stage presence, mirrored the themes of the album: finding serenity and clarity amidst the chaos of a public life. The success of this tour in major Southeast Asian markets like Indonesia highlights the enduring marketability of legacy K-pop idols who have successfully pivoted to sustainable solo careers.

The Broader Impact on the K-Pop Landscape

The "Edge of Calm Tour" arrives at a time when the K-pop industry is seeing a shift in how legacy artists manage their careers. The traditional "seven-year curse," which often saw groups disbanding after their initial contracts expired, has been challenged by artists like Tiffany who continue to pursue solo endeavors while maintaining strong ties to their roots.

Data from the concert tour indicate that the demographic of Tiffany’s fanbase has expanded significantly. While she retains the core support of long-time Girls’ Generation followers, her solo work has attracted a new generation of listeners who gravitate toward her Western-influenced sound. This cross-generational appeal is a rare commodity in the music industry, positioning Tiffany as an influential figure for younger artists who aim to balance group identity with individual artistic expression.

Moreover, the Jakarta stop serves as a reminder of Indonesia’s critical role in the global touring circuit. As one of the most active markets for K-pop, the country continues to host high-profile events that necessitate world-class production standards. The success of the "Edge of Calm" show at the JIEXPO Theatre reflects the professionalization of the local event industry, which is now capable of hosting intricate, multi-layered performances that meet the high technical requirements of global touring artists.

Future Projections and Industry Implications

Looking forward, the success of the Edge of Calm album and its accompanying tour positions Tiffany for a productive late-career phase. By successfully branding herself as a mature, independent artist, she has mitigated the risks often associated with post-idol transitions. Her ability to pivot between different musical styles—as evidenced by her eclectic setlist in Jakarta—ensures that her brand remains dynamic and resistant to market saturation.

Experts suggest that the "10-year solo milestone" is a benchmark that will likely see Tiffany taking on more creative control in future projects. There is speculation that this tour could lead to further international collaborations, as she has already demonstrated a keen ability to interpret Western pop standards with the same level of emotional depth as her original material.

A Testament to Enduring Fandom

The emotional resonance of the evening was perhaps best captured by the interaction between Tiffany and the audience. During the concert, she did not merely perform; she engaged in a dialogue, acknowledging the long road the fans had traveled alongside her. In an era where digital consumption of music often feels detached and transactional, the live concert experience serves as an essential, tangible reinforcement of the bond between artist and supporter.

As the curtains closed at the JIEXPO Theatre, the consensus among attendees was clear: Tiffany Young is no longer just a member of a girl group. She is a resilient, evolving, and deeply impactful artist who has successfully navigated the complexities of the music industry to carve out a space that is uniquely her own. The "Edge of Calm" tour is not merely a celebration of what has been; it is a declaration of what is yet to come.

As Tiffany prepares to take her tour to other cities, the Jakarta performance stands as a benchmark for excellence. For the fans who witnessed the show, the memory of her performance—from the nostalgic echoes of "Into the New World" to the sophisticated melodies of her newest tracks—will likely remain a defining moment in their experience as followers of her remarkable 19-year career in the spotlight. With the tour continuing its run, the industry will be watching closely to see how Tiffany further refines this new, mature chapter of her artistic narrative, solidifying her legacy as one of the most adaptable and beloved figures in modern music.

Andre Taulany Prepares for New Chapter as Wedding Plans with Amanda Rigby Move Forward for October 2026

by Ammar Sabilarrohman
written by Ammar Sabilarrohman

The landscape of Indonesian celebrity news has shifted significantly as veteran comedian and television presenter Andre Taulany prepares to embark on a new chapter in his personal life. Following the formal conclusion of his previous marriage to Erin Wartia Trigina, reports have emerged confirming that Taulany is in the advanced stages of planning a wedding with actress and television personality Amanda Rigby. The union, which has garnered substantial public interest, is tentatively scheduled for October 2026, marking a notable transition for the entertainer as he seeks to establish a new domestic life.

The Context of a Public Transition

Andre Taulany, a household name in Indonesia for over two decades, has navigated a high-profile divorce in recent years. His transition from a long-term marriage to his current engagement has been a subject of intense media scrutiny. The public interest stems not only from his status as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry but also from the societal curiosity regarding how public figures manage life after significant marital dissolution.

For Taulany, the upcoming marriage is framed as a step toward stability and personal fulfillment. In recent public statements, he has emphasized that his priorities have shifted toward the long-term well-being of his children and the establishment of a harmonious, quiet family environment. The move to marry Amanda Rigby is viewed by close associates as a deliberate effort to pivot away from the turbulence of his past public life and toward a more private, intentional future.

Chronology of Developments

The timeline leading to the projected October 2026 wedding is complex, primarily due to the international nature of the documentation required. While the relationship between Taulany and Rigby had been subject to rumors for several months, the confirmation of their intent to wed only arrived when administrative hurdles became the primary focus of the couple’s public discourse.

  • Early 2026: Initial reports of the couple’s proximity began circulating following their appearances on various television sets and social media platforms.
  • Mid-2026: The couple began to move toward a more public acknowledgment of their relationship, though they remained guarded about specific milestones.
  • September 2026: Taulany formally addressed the rumors, confirming that a wedding is being planned for October 2026, contingent upon the completion of necessary administrative filings.
  • October 2026 (Projected): The target window for the nuptials, pending the finalization of bureaucratic requirements.

The delay in setting a fixed date is attributed to the fact that Amanda Rigby is a foreign national, necessitating a rigorous and time-consuming process for marriage registration under Indonesian law. This involves the submission of various legal documents, certifications of single status from home jurisdictions, and compliance with the marriage laws governing the union of an Indonesian citizen with a foreign national.

Administrative Hurdles and Legal Realities

The technicalities of marrying a foreign national in Indonesia represent a common hurdle for many public figures. The process requires navigating both civil registry offices (Disdukcapil) and potentially international consular services to ensure the marriage is legally binding and recognized in both jurisdictions.

Taulany has been vocal in requesting that the public refrain from premature speculation regarding a specific date. His insistence on completing the administrative "paperwork" first serves a twofold purpose: it mitigates the risk of legal complications during the ceremony, and it protects the privacy of both parties against the potential embarrassment of a rescheduled or canceled event due to clerical errors or missing documentation. By adopting this methodical approach, Taulany is signaling a shift toward a more disciplined and cautious management of his private affairs.

Future Outlook and Personal Aspirations

During a recent media engagement in Jakarta, Taulany expressed a clear vision for his future. Beyond the excitement of a new marriage, he highlighted the importance of maintaining his professional career while simultaneously fulfilling his duties as a father. This balance is critical for a man whose professional life is defined by the high-energy demands of comedy and television hosting.

"Bersyukur kalau memang Allah kasih sehat, bisa terus berkarya, membesarkan anak-anak," Taulany stated, emphasizing the priority of health and professional longevity. His aspirations for the upcoming marriage are rooted in traditional values, with a stated goal of building a home characterized by the concepts of "sakinah, mawaddah, warrahmah"—terms often used in Indonesian culture to describe a family that is peaceful, filled with love, and showered with divine mercy.

His desire for a quiet life, characterized by peace and the avoidance of negativity, reflects a broader trend among senior entertainers who are moving toward a phase of life where emotional stability is prioritized over media exposure. Taulany explicitly mentioned his goal of surrounding himself with positive influences, a reaction to the intense public focus that often accompanies high-profile divorces and remarriages in the digital age.

The Impact of Celebrity Marriage on Public Perception

The marriage of two public figures like Andre Taulany and Amanda Rigby holds significant weight in the Indonesian entertainment ecosystem. For the public, these relationships often serve as a mirror for contemporary social norms regarding divorce and remarriage.

Analyses of the situation suggest that Taulany’s transparent, albeit cautious, communication strategy is an attempt to control the narrative. By providing enough information to satisfy public curiosity while withholding specifics to maintain privacy, he is navigating a delicate middle ground. Furthermore, the interest in this union highlights the enduring influence of Taulany, whose career has spanned multiple generations of viewers, from his early days as a lead singer to his current status as a titan of Indonesian comedy.

From a sociological perspective, the marriage of a high-profile figure to a foreign national also brings attention to the changing demographics of the Indonesian entertainment industry. It highlights the increasingly international nature of the sector and the complexities that arise when personal lives intersect with global legal and administrative frameworks.

Addressing Public Speculation

Taulany’s repeated pleas to the media and the public to avoid speculation serve as a critical component of his current public relations strategy. In an era of rapid-fire social media reporting, the temptation to assign dates and locations to celebrity weddings is high. However, Taulany’s commitment to waiting for the administrative process to run its course indicates a respect for the legal integrity of the marriage.

He has promised that once the administrative paperwork is finalized, he will share the details of the ceremony with the public. This approach aims to minimize the "noise" surrounding the event, ensuring that when the wedding does take place, it can occur with the dignity and privacy that the couple desires.

Conclusion: A Measured Step Forward

As October 2026 approaches, the focus remains on the completion of the necessary legal formalities. Andre Taulany’s journey—from the dissolution of his long-term marriage to the current preparations for a new life with Amanda Rigby—is a testament to the ongoing evolution of a career and a man in the public eye.

The upcoming wedding is not merely a social event; it is a declaration of intent to start anew. By focusing on administrative compliance, family values, and a peaceful future, Taulany is setting a precedent for how public figures can transition through personal milestones with grace and caution. The coming weeks, as the paperwork is processed, will undoubtedly be watched closely by fans and the media alike, marking a significant, if carefully measured, step forward for one of Indonesia’s most enduring television personalities. As the details emerge, the focus will likely remain on the intersection of his professional obligations and his desire for a peaceful, family-oriented life in the years to come.

Jakarta Plunges into Darkness: Iconic Landmarks Go Dark for One Hour to Commemorate World Ozone Day

by Asep Darmawan
written by Asep Darmawan

Jakarta experienced a striking visual transformation on Saturday evening as authorities implemented a strategic, one-hour blackout across some of the capital city’s most prominent thoroughfares and landmarks. Stretching from the historic National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta all the way to the bustling commercial and cultural hub of the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI), the deliberate suspension of public lighting was executed to mark World Ozone Day. The initiative, designed to raise public awareness regarding climate change, energy conservation, and the ongoing degradation of the stratospheric ozone layer, successfully altered the nocturnal landscape of Indonesia’s economic powerhouse. Despite the sudden loss of illumination, the blackout did not deter crowds of residents and tourists who had gathered to witness the unique spectacle, turning an environmental campaign into an unexpected communal experience.

The coordinated blackout commenced precisely at 8:30 PM local time and lasted for exactly sixty minutes, concluding at 9:30 PM. During this window, major administrative and commercial buildings, street lighting, and decorative illuminations along the designated corridors were switched off. The stark reduction in artificial light cast a rare shadow over the city center, allowing citizens to perceive the urban environment under a remarkably different aesthetic. Rather than driving people away, the dim conditions drew curious onlookers to the plazas and pedestrian walkways surrounding Bundaran HI. Armed with smartphones and digital cameras, visitors eagerly captured the unusual ambiance, snapping selfies and group photographs against the backdrop of a darkened cityscape. While traffic continued to navigate the area under the guidance of local transportation authorities and reduced vehicle headlights, pedestrian zones remained lively. Groups of people sat on stone benches, engaged in conversations, or strolled leisurely, demonstrating how public spaces in Jakarta function as communal living rooms even in the absence of standard municipal lighting.

The decision to plunge key areas of Jakarta into darkness was rooted in global environmental commitments aimed at halting the depletion of the ozone layer. World Ozone Day, officially designated by the United Nations General Assembly as September 16 to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987, serves as an annual reminder of the international community’s triumph in phasing out ozone-depleting substances such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Although the official global date fell earlier in the week, municipal authorities and environmental agencies across Indonesia frequently schedule localized awareness campaigns, symbolic blackouts, and educational workshops during the surrounding weekends to maximize public participation and engagement.

The historical context of ozone layer protection is deeply tied to international diplomacy and scientific consensus. In the late 20th century, scientists discovered a massive thinning of the ozone layer over the Antarctic, primarily driven by industrial chemicals utilized in refrigeration, air conditioning, aerosol propellants, and industrial solvents. The resulting increase in ultraviolet (UV) radiation posed severe threats to human health—including heightened rates of skin cancer and cataracts—as well as devastating impacts on marine ecosystems and terrestrial agriculture. The Montreal Protocol stands out as one of the most successful environmental treaties in history, achieving near-universal ratification and resulting in the systematic reduction of over 99 percent of ozone-depleting substances.

Peringati Hari Ozon, Listrik di Kawasan Monas hingga Bundaran HI Padam selama 1 Jam

However, environmental scientists and policymakers emphasize that the battle for atmospheric health is far from over. Modern climate initiatives frequently link ozone layer recovery with broader greenhouse gas reduction strategies. Many chemical substitutes developed to replace CFCs, such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), proved to be potent greenhouse gases that significantly accelerate global warming. Consequently, subsequent amendments to the Montreal Protocol, such as the Kigali Amendment adopted in 2016, mandate the phase-down of HFCs, bridging the gap between ozone protection and climate change mitigation.

In the wake of Saturday’s event, urban planners, environmental advocates, and municipal officials have weighed in on the broader implications of symbolic energy-saving campaigns. Proponents of such initiatives argue that while a one-hour blackout yields a relatively modest reduction in absolute power consumption, its primary value lies in psychological and educational impact. By physically altering the urban environment, authorities successfully capture the public’s attention, prompting conversations about energy efficiency, carbon footprints, and sustainable urban living. In a metropolis of over ten million residents—and a greater metropolitan area exceeding thirty million—raising individual awareness regarding electricity usage remains a critical component of national carbon-reduction goals.

Energy sector analysts note that Jakarta’s power grid, managed by the state-owned electricity enterprise PT PLN (Persero), operates under immense daily pressure to supply energy to commercial centers, industrial zones, and dense residential neighborhoods. The transition toward renewable energy sources and the reduction of fossil fuel dependency represent major pillars of Indonesia’s long-term environmental strategy, culminating in the national commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 or sooner. Symbolic events like the Monas-to-Bundaran HI blackout align with these broader policy objectives by encouraging citizens to reflect on their daily energy consumption habits, ranging from residential air conditioning use to reliance on private motor vehicles.

Public policy experts also highlight the socio-cultural dimension of urban blackouts. In recent years, cities around the world have utilized similar initiatives—such as the global Earth Hour movement—to foster a sense of collective responsibility toward the planet. The high turnout at Bundaran HI illustrates a growing appetite among urban Indonesians for public engagement events that address global challenges. Rather than viewing the disruption as an inconvenience, the crowds demonstrated an adaptive and positive response, transforming a municipal environmental policy into a recreational gathering.

As the clock struck 9:30 PM and the lights along the Monas and Bundaran HI corridors flickered back to life, normal urban operations resumed instantly. Floodlights illuminated the fountains, skyscrapers cast their familiar glow across the tarmac, and traffic surged back into its typical rhythm. Yet, the brief hour of darkness left a lasting impression on the thousands of citizens who participated. By temporarily stripping away the relentless glare of modern urban illumination, Jakarta offered its residents a rare glimpse of a quieter, more mindful cityscape—one that underscored the delicate balance between urban development and planetary preservation.

Green SM Expands Electric Mobility Horizon in Jakarta with Launch of VinFast Electric Motorcycle Ride-Hailing Service

by Nana
written by Nana

The urban transport landscape of Indonesia’s bustling capital experienced a notable shift on September 16, 2026, as Green SM, the prominent Vietnamese ride-hailing and green mobility enterprise, officially rolled out its electric motorcycle service in Jakarta. Known primarily for its pioneering electric taxi operations in the region, the company’s latest expansion marks a significant milestone: Indonesia has now officially become the very first international market outside of Vietnam to host Green SM’s two-wheeled electric vehicle (EV) fleet.

This strategic deployment introduces a modern, eco-friendly commuting alternative for urban residents while simultaneously opening new avenues of livelihood for local drivers. By leveraging electric scooters supplied by VinFast, Green SM is attempting to cement its footprint in Southeast Asia’s rapidly growing electric vehicle ecosystem. The launch is underpinned by a variety of flexible driver-centric financial structures, including an accessible rent-to-own mechanism designed to empower everyday workers.

Phase One Rollout: Strategic Footprint Across Key Jakarta Sectors

For its initial launch phase, Green SM Bike has established operational footholds across carefully selected urban zones. Services are currently live in targeted areas within South Jakarta, West Jakarta, and Central Jakarta—regions characterized by dense commuter traffic and high demand for agile, point-to-point transportation.

To power this burgeoning fleet, Green SM has introduced two distinct electric scooter models manufactured by VinFast: the VinFast Evo and the Feliz II. Both vehicles have been engineered specifically for dense urban navigation, offering zero tailpipe emissions, lower maintenance requirements, and sufficient range to handle typical daily metropolitan shifts. Concurrently, the company is actively expanding its supporting infrastructure, investing in localized battery-swapping stations and dedicated charging hubs to ensure seamless, uninterrupted operations for its drivers throughout the metropolis.

Industry analysts note that Jakarta’s acute congestion and strong governmental push toward carbon neutrality make it an ideal testing ground for commercial EV deployment. By targeting short-to-medium-range urban trips via motorcycles, Green SM is directly addressing the core of Jakarta’s daily mobility needs, where motorcycles traditionally dominate the modal share.

Flexible Financial Schemes and the Rent-to-Own Model

A focal point of Green SM’s market entry strategy is its driver acquisition model, which seeks to lower the traditional financial barriers associated with entering the ride-hailing industry. Rather than requiring drivers to purchase vehicles upfront, the company has introduced a structured rent-to-own framework.

Under this specific program, participating drivers can utilize a VinFast electric motorcycle for a daily fee starting at just Rp39,000. The structure is designed as a multi-year commitment; drivers who successfully complete a two-year operational program under the established guidelines ultimately earn full ownership of the vehicle. This approach provides long-term asset-building potential for drivers who might otherwise struggle to secure traditional vehicle financing.

For individuals hesitant to commit to a long-term ownership track, Green SM offers alternative contractual arrangements. Drivers can opt for short-term rental agreements spanning three, six, or twelve months. These flexible agreements require a modest initial deposit of Rp150,000. Furthermore, to ease the transition for newly onboarded partners during their initial settling-in period, Green SM has incorporated promotional structures into certain contracts, including a guaranteed earnings floor of up to Rp160,000 per day during the first two months of operation, supplemented by performance-based bonuses.

Comprehensive Recruitment Standards and Safety Protocols

Operating an emerging commercial EV fleet requires stringent adherence to safety and service quality standards. Consequently, Green SM has instituted a comprehensive recruitment and training pipeline for prospective driver-partners in Jakarta.

Candidates applying to become Green SM Bike operators must satisfy specific demographic and administrative criteria. Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 54 years and six months, possess an active Class C driving license (SIM C), and provide verified identification documents including a National Identity Card (KTP), Family Card (KK), and a Police Clearance Certificate (SKCK). Additionally, candidates must own a reliable smartphone capable of running the ride-hailing application efficiently.

Beyond basic documentation, prospective drivers undergo assessments regarding their familiarity with digital navigation tools and their geographical knowledge of greater Jakarta. Once selected, all incoming partners are required to complete mandatory training modules focusing on defensive driving, customer service standards, and the technical operation of electric motorcycles.

While the application and selection process itself is free of charge, successful candidates advancing to the vehicle handover stage are required to submit the standard Rp150,000 security deposit. This meticulous vetting and training process aligns closely with broader regulatory expectations in Indonesia, where transport authorities have increasingly emphasized the importance of safety standards across commercial vehicle fleets.

Broader Economic Implications and Evolving Market Dynamics

The introduction of Green SM Bike arrives at a critical juncture for Indonesia’s transportation sector, which is currently navigating a complex transition toward electrification. The country has set ambitious long-term carbon reduction targets, supported by various national incentives aimed at accelerating EV adoption across both private and commercial sectors.

From an economic standpoint, the availability of vehicles through structured leasing and rent-to-own formats provides a compelling value proposition for Jakarta’s gig economy workers. While the headline figure of Rp39,000 per day represents an operational cost rather than a purchase price, the framework offers a predictable expense model that drivers can factor into their daily earnings calculations. While actual daily take-home pay fluctuates based on completed trips, surge pricing, and performance incentives—with certain promotional programs estimating potential earnings of up to Rp160,000 daily—the predictability of the vehicle acquisition cost helps mitigate financial volatility for independent contractors.

At the same time, Green SM’s ongoing expansion in Indonesia has not been without regulatory scrutiny. The company’s broader operations in the region, including its concurrent electric taxi services, have previously drawn attention from national transport authorities—such as the Ministry of Transportation and Korlantas Polri (the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps)—following localized operational incidents. In response, regulatory bodies and corporate leadership have engaged in collaborative dialogues focusing on rigorous safety compliance, driver welfare, and infrastructure preparedness. Observers view these interactions as a natural component of integrating novel transport technologies into established regulatory frameworks.

Future Outlook and Expansion Prospects

Looking ahead, Green SM’s leadership has indicated that the Jakarta launch of Green SM Bike is merely the first phase of a broader regional strategy. While operations are currently concentrated in specific high-demand districts of South, West, and Central Jakarta, the enterprise retains the operational capacity and strategic ambition to scale its two-wheeled footprint into surrounding satellite cities—such as Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek)—and potentially to other major metropolitan areas across the Indonesian archipelago.

The success of this rollout will likely serve as a vital benchmark for other foreign and domestic green mobility firms eyeing Southeast Asia’s massive ride-hailing market. By successfully merging accessible vehicle financing, sustainable VinFast hardware, and structured driver training, Green SM is positioning itself as a central player in Jakarta’s evolving urban transit ecosystem. As infrastructure matures and consumer familiarity with electric two-wheelers deepens, initiatives like Green SM Bike are poised to play a transformative role in redefining how millions of urban Indonesians commute on a daily basis.

Mayar Officially Launches Mayar Card to Transform Corporate Expense Management and Virtual Payments for Indonesian Businesses

by Asep Darmawan
written by Asep Darmawan

Jakarta, Indonesia — Commerce platform Mayar has officially introduced its newest financial management product, Mayar Card. Designed specifically to address the persistent challenges business owners face when managing corporate cash flow, the platform provides customizable virtual cards tailored for enterprises, startups, and small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Indonesia. The launch addresses a long-standing operational hurdle in the country’s business ecosystem: the friction and inefficiency associated with separating personal and corporate expenditures.

The announcement was made by Frianto Moerdowo, Director of PT Mayar Kernel Supernova, who highlighted that the modern business environment requires sophisticated yet accessible financial instruments. According to Moerdowo, the absence of accessible corporate debit or credit cards tailored specifically for local businesses has historically served as a major bottleneck, limiting the growth potential of ambitious entrepreneurs. With the introduction of Mayar Card, the company aims to modernize how Indonesian enterprises manage operational spending, internal budgeting, and financial auditing.

Bridging the Gap in Corporate Finance for Indonesian Businesses

For years, many founders, small business owners, and corporate executives in Indonesia have relied on personal credit cards or individual bank accounts to finance day-to-day business operations. This practice, while convenient in the short term, introduces significant accounting and security complications. Personal and corporate funds become intertwined, complicating tax reporting, increasing the risk of unmonitored spending, and creating substantial roadblocks for finance teams during monthly audits.

Mayar Card is engineered to solve these structural inefficiencies by introducing a dedicated virtual card system. Business owners can generate multiple virtual cards for different departments, projects, or specific operational needs. Each card can be configured with strict spending limits and customized budgeting parameters, ensuring that employees or specific business units operate strictly within pre-approved financial boundaries.

Furthermore, every transaction executed through a Mayar Card is logged and recorded in real-time. This immediate visibility eliminates the opacity often associated with traditional corporate reimbursement models and ensures that financial controllers have complete oversight over company expenditures as they happen.

Addressing the Pain Points of Traditional Auditing and Expense Tracking

Internal finance teams frequently encounter hurdles during routine monthly audits. Common challenges include missing transaction histories, unexplained expenditures, and suspicious transactions that escape traditional oversight mechanisms. These vulnerabilities not only expose companies to financial leakage but also waste valuable administrative hours trying to reconcile disorganized expense reports.

By shifting corporate spending away from personal credit cards and onto a centralized virtual card platform, businesses can streamline their accounting workflows. Automated transaction logging means that financial records are maintained accurately without requiring manual data entry from employees. This transparency significantly reduces the margin for error and strengthens internal financial controls.

"We hope Mayar Card can serve as a comprehensive solution for entrepreneurs who have traditionally relied on personal credit cards for business payments," said Frianto Moerdowo. "By transitioning to our platform, companies can achieve cleaner, more transparent, and significantly more efficient financial record-keeping."

Early Adoption and Quantifiable Business Impact

The implementation of virtual card technology has already demonstrated tangible benefits for early adopters in the Indonesian market. Rizki Adiwilaga, Finance Lead at TugasAI, shared his professional experience following the integration of Mayar Card into his organization’s financial operations. According to Adiwilaga, the platform yielded an immediate and measurable improvement in fiscal discipline.

Data shared regarding the early implementation revealed that TugasAI experienced a notable 38 percent reduction in unexpected or unauthorized expenditures compared to the period prior to adopting Mayar Card. This reduction underscores the effectiveness of rigid budgeting limits and real-time monitoring in curbing corporate waste and tightening internal fiscal discipline.

Strategic Positioning and Market Availability

Mayar has scheduled the full-scale rollout of Mayar Card, making the platform accessible to business owners through its official web portal at mayar.id/card. The development of the product was guided by three core pillars: simplicity, transparency, and security.

As Indonesia’s digital economy continues to expand rapidly, the demand for sophisticated fintech infrastructure has grown in parallel. Modern businesses require financial tools that can scale alongside their operations, moving beyond legacy banking products that often fail to meet the dynamic needs of digital-first enterprises. By providing scalable virtual cards with customizable limits, Mayar positions itself as a key enabler in the digital transformation of Indonesian corporate finance.

Broader Implications for the Indonesian Fintech Landscape

The introduction of specialized corporate expense management platforms like Mayar Card reflects a broader maturation within Indonesia’s financial technology sector. While initial fintech innovations heavily targeted consumer-facing payments and peer-to-peer lending, the current wave of technological development increasingly focuses on B2B (business-to-business) solutions.

Efficient cash flow management remains a critical determinant of business survival, particularly for emerging enterprises navigating economic fluctuations. Solutions that minimize administrative overhead, enhance audit trails, and prevent capital misallocation provide a distinct competitive advantage. By addressing these systemic gaps, Mayar Card contributes to a more resilient and transparent corporate ecosystem in Indonesia, empowering business owners to focus on strategic growth rather than administrative friction.

Connectivity is further streamlined through the inclusion of a USB Type-C port supporting up to 65W Power Delivery. This enables single-cable interfacing for laptops and compatible mobile devices, simultaneously transmitting display data, peripheral inputs, and sufficient electrical power to maintain operation and charge the connected hardware.

Industry Analysis and Market Implications

The launch of the Taichi monitor series carries several notable implications for the high-end PC hardware market. Historically, the Taichi brand has served as ASRock’s flagship tier, traditionally associated with top-tier motherboards featuring heavy-duty power delivery systems and distinct aesthetic designs. Bringing this branding to monitors underscores the company’s commitment to building a cohesive, ultra-enthusiast ecosystem.

From a technological standpoint, the inclusion of DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 on models such as the TCO27USA highlights a broader industry shift toward next-generation display interfaces capable of handling uncompressed 4K video streams at high refresh rates without reliance on Display Stream Compression (DSC). This ensures future-proofing as next-generation graphics architectures become more widely adopted by consumers.

However, market analysts note that pricing will dictate the commercial viability of these displays. Given the advanced nature of Penta Tandem OLED, QD-OLED, and high-refresh Tandem WOLED panels—coupled with premium I/O configurations—the Taichi monitors are expected to occupy the highest pricing brackets upon release. They will directly challenge established display solutions from tier-one monitor specialists, testing consumer brand loyalty toward ASRock in a product category outside its historical core competencies.

As official release dates and pricing structures are finalized in the coming weeks, the industry will closely monitor how these specifications translate into real-world performance benchmarks, particularly regarding thermal management, pixel longevity, and burn-in mitigation features inherent to advanced OLED technologies.
