Waymo robotaxi to begin driverless services for employees in Austin

:Alphabet’s Waymo said on Tuesday it will initiate driverless passenger products and companies for its staff in Austin, Texas beginning Wednesday.

Waymo is pulling forward with its expansion plans at a time when its key rival Cruise, owned by Popular Motors, has suspended U.S. operations in the wake of a pedestrian-dragging accident.

The firm said the products and companies would be available in the market all thru 43 square miles of the metropolis, including downtown Austin, Barton Hills, Riverside, East Austin and Hyde Park.

Waymo said it will open its plug-hailing program, Waymo One, to the final public in Austin at a later date, adding that it will assemble Austin the fourth plug-hailing metropolis after San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles.

“Our disciplined deployment in Texas’ capital brings us one step nearer to safely turning in the advantages of totally self sustaining utilizing to many more folks,” Waymo product chief Saswat Panigrahi said.

The firm obtained approval to initiate its fared entirely driverless robotaxi products and companies in Los Angeles and a few cities near San Francisco, by the California Public Utilities Price (CPUC).
