Apple defeats union campaign at New Jersey retail store
Apple employees at a Recent Jersey retail retailer non-public voted against becoming a member of a union, potentially stifling momentum for a push to organise the tech giant’s personnel nationwide.
Workers at the retailer in Short Hills, Recent Jersey, voted 57-41 against becoming a member of the Communication Workers of The United States (CWA) union in an election that ended on Saturday, in step with a tally from the National Labor Relatives Board.
It was the first union election at an Apple retailer since 2022, when employees at a pair of stores in Maryland and Oklahoma voted to unionise.
Since then, the CWA has withdrawn petitions to preserve elections at loads of stores and accused Apple of illegally discouraging unions.
Apple did not immediately respond to a quiz for comment. In a assertion final month responding to a petition to preserve the election at the Short Hills retailer, the firm said it offered “top tier” pay and advantages to retail employees.
The CWA did not immediately respond to a quiz for comment. The union has five days to file objections to the election outcomes, such as arguments that Apple engaged in unlawful labour practices earlier than the vote.
The CWA final week filed a complaint with the NLRB accusing Apple of retaliating against a leader of the campaign in Short Hills by subjecting him to conferences with managers and denying his quiz for fracture day.
That came days after the labour board in a separate case said the supervisor of an Apple retailer in Prolonged island had violated a employee’s rights by asking whether or now not he supported an ongoing union campaign. No longer decrease than three dozen other complaints from the union are pending at the board. Apple has denied wrongdoing in those cases.
